Autism Friendly Weekend

Autism Friendly Weekend Set for March 19 & 20 at The Lindsay Theater

Partners The Lindsay Theater and Band Together Pittsburgh will host an autism friendly weekend, with two free events: a sensory friendly screening on March 19 and an Open Mic on March 20 at the Theater in Sewickley.

The sensory friendly screening of Sing 2 will begin at 10 a.m. sharp (no trailers) on Saturday, March 19. The sponsorship of the Theater and Band Together Pittsburgh will provide free tickets to families impacted by autism and other special needs.  However, reservations are recommended at the Theater’s website.

Sunday, March 20 will offer an autism friendly opportunity to watch or participate in a free Open Mic session from 2 to 5 p.m., sponsored by Band Together Pittsburgh, the Autism Society of Pittsburgh and the Theater.

Longtime Pittsburgh musician John Vento and other members of Band Together will facilitate this event for anyone who wants to sing (including karaoke), play an instrument, tell jokes, do impressions, just say hello or see what it’s all about. While the event is free, Band Together requests RSVPs at www.bandtogetherpgh.org so that it can provide complimentary snacks to attendees.

On Sundays, parking is free in Sewickley, including the municipal lot next to the Theater and on the streets; ramps to the Theater offer easy accessibility.

These activities are funded through box office revenues and generous donations from the Theater’s Sustaining Circle and more than 1,000 individual donors. Other supporters include: The Tull Family Foundation, Huntington Bank, Esmark and the Bouchard Family, the Richard King Mellon Foundation, Raymond C. and Martha S. Suckling Fund of The Pittsburgh Foundation, W.P. Snyder III Charitable Fund, Thomas Marshall Foundation, Lincoln Learning Solutions, A.J. and Sigismunda Palumbo Charitable Trust, Child Health Association of Sewickley, Sewickley Valley Community Fund and the Allegheny County Airport Charitable Foundation.
