SUMMARY:Pillow Talk co-presented by the Pittsburgh Classic Movie Club
DESCRIPTION:Buy Tickets\n\n\n\n\nSpicy 1950s rom-com Pillow Talk\, starring Doris Day and Rock Hudson\, will screen Tuesday\, June 11\, at 7:30 p.m.\, in partnership with the Pittsburgh Classic Movie Club. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDay stars as Jan\, an interior decorator\, with Hudson as Brad\, a composer and playboy\, who share a telephone party line and a mutual dislike—until Brad sees Jan in person and hatches a plan to win her heart. The film was nominated for five Oscars and won the Academy Award for Best Screenplay. \n\n\n\n“Pillow Talk is a funny\, heartwarming film that harkens back to the premise of the original screwball comedies\, specifically a hilarious battle of the sexes\,” says Pittsburgh Classic Movie Club president Wendy Whittick\, who will introduce the picture. “This film revitalized the careers of Hudson and Day\, recasting him as a comic actor and giving her a sexier image. It was such a success that they were paired in two subsequent films.” \n\n\n\nThe film topped the U.S. box office for seven consecutive weeks\, and grossed nearly $19 million\, then considered a huge amount. It was named to the Library of Congress’ National Film Registry in 2009\, recognized for its cultural\, historic and aesthetic significance. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPillow Talk is “one of the most lively and up-to-date comedy-romances of the year\,” said The New York Times in its original 1959 review. “It is really the clever witty screenplay that accounts for much of the sparkle in this film. With a CinemaScope screen to play on\, (the screenwriters) and director Michael Gordon have much fun. And that fun is transmitted to the audience in an easy and generous flow of ingeniously graphic situations and nimble repartee.” \n\n\n\nTickets are on sale now!

SUMMARY:Presentation by Local Motorcyle Expert for The Bikeriders
DESCRIPTION:Note: This event was originally scheduled for Friday\, June 21.\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nAnyone can watch The Bikeriders at The Lindsay starting June 21. Plus\, folks heading to the Theater the following Friday will also get to hear from a true motorcycle expert. \n\n\n\nMoviegoers who are either leaving The Lindsay’s 4:30 p.m. showing of The Bikeriders or getting ready to catch the full-throttle drama at 7:30 p.m. will have the chance to meet Mike Seate\, a Sewickley resident\, veteran motorcycle journalist\, and Cafe Racer magazine’s editor and publisher. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSeate will be on hand at 6:45 p.m. on June 28 for a 30-minute presentation about motorcycle culture\, his knowledge of The Bikeriders inspiration Danny Lyon\, and to show off his 1960 Norton Dominator — a popular\, high-performance street bike imported from the United Kingdom — at The Lindsay. \n\n\n\n“Danny Lyon’s The Bikeriders is a seminal work of 20th-century photojournalism that’s respected by motorcyclists around the world\,” says Seate. “That his work inspired a Hollywood movie is a testament to the enduring quality of his photos.” \n\n\n\nThis Seate talk is the perfect companion to The Bikeriders\, writer-director Jeff Nichols’ sweeping tale of loyalty and love centered around a Midwestern motorcycle club. The captivating summer action-drama stars Oscar nominees Austin Butler (Elvis)\, Tom Hardy (The Revenant) and Michael Shannon (Revolutionary Road) alongside a stacked cast that also includes Jodie Comer (Killing Eve)\, Mike Faist (Challengers)\, Norman Reedus (The Walking Dead) and Boyd Holbrook (Logan). \n\n\n\nSeate’s presentation will focus on the period of motorcycle history depicted in The Bikeriders and Lyon’s time documenting members of the real-life Outlaws Motorcycle Club that inspired Nichols’ fictional story. Friday’s talk will also include historical items and memorabilia provided by Seate\, along with the chance to purchase his book\, Two Wheels on Two Reels. \n\n\n\nCafe racers originated in the 1960s as British sport and speed bikes favored by urban “rockers” who used the stripped-down motorcycles to sprint from cafe to cafe. Seate has spent years studying and writing about cafe racers and the folks who love them\, even traveling to the U.K. and absorbing information that he has been sharing with local motorcycle enthusiasts ever since. He also hosted 56 episodes of the Discovery series “Cafe Racer\,” which recently celebrated the 10th anniversary of when filming wrapped on its final season. \n\n\n\nWhether you love motorcycles or just want to watch one of summer 2024’s most anticipated new releases\, come on down to The Lindsay for The Bikeriders and the rare opportunity to hang out with a local guy who knows a lot about the world of cafe racers.
