SUMMARY:'Clemente'
DESCRIPTION:Local filmmaker David Altrogge’s documentary about The Great One is coming to The Lindsay!\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBuy Tickets Here!\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nThe Lindsay will soon be showing a locally produced documentary about arguably the greatest athlete to ever play for a Pittsburgh professional sports team. \n\n\n\nClemente will play at The Lindsay from (at least) Sept. 12-18. Duane Rieder\, founder of The Clemente Museum in Lawrenceville and a prominent local photographer\, will introduce the 4:30 p.m. Clemente screening on Sunday\, Sept. 14. \n\n\n\nDirector David Altrogge’s film spotlights Pirates legend Roberto Clemente’s amazing life\, baseball career\, and why he remains such a revered figure in Western Pennsylvania and beyond. \n\n\n\nThe film starts with Clemente’s childhood in Puerto Rico\, takes viewers through his Pirates heyday\, and immortalizes The Great One’s philanthropic legacy that was tragically exemplified by his 1972 death in a plane crash while delivering aid to Nicaragua. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThe documentary includes interviews with Clemente’s sons\, Luis and Robert Jr.; the last interview with his late wife\, Vera; multiple Pirates legends; contemporary Major League Baseball stars like Francisco Lindor and Yadier Molina; Pittsburgh-raised movie star Michael Keaton; and Rita Moreno\, an Oscar-winning actor and fellow Puerto Rican icon. \n\n\n\nAltrogge is the co-founder of locally based production company Vinegar Hill. He and Vinegar Hill co-founder Michael Barnett produced Clemente alongside a group that also includes renowned director Richard Linklater and the SpringHill Company duo of Maverick Carter and NBA superstar LeBron James. \n\n\n\nThis is the second Altrogge-directed film to play at The Lindsay. Neat: The Story of Bourbon was part of the Theater’s 2024 Documentary Series. Altrogge graciously appeared at the Theater for a Neat Q&A\, and we hope he’ll be available again to discuss making this beautiful tribute to The Great One with Lindsay patrons. \n\n\n\n“Clemente is a quintessential Pittsburgh story\,” Altrogge says. “His mission was about bringing people together. We hope this film brings people together in Pittsburgh and across the world.”

SUMMARY:Pittsburgh Silent Film Festival: 'Ben-Hur'
DESCRIPTION:Watch this 1925 biblical epic\, accompanied by live piano music\, at The Lindsay! \n\n\n\n\n\n\nBuy Tickets Here!\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nThe Pittsburgh Silent Film Society returns to The Lindsay in September with a century-old classic full of drama\, romance and epic chariot races. \n\n\n\nBen-Hur will play at The Lindsay on Sunday\, Sept. 28\, at 7 p.m.\, as part of the third annual Pittsburgh Silent Film Festival. This screening will be accompanied by live piano music\, courtesy of local composer Tyler Stoner. Tickets are available for $11. \n\n\n\nBen-Hur was directed by Fred Niblo and stars Ramon Novarro as Judah Ben-Hur\, an aristocrat-turned-slave who is unjustly imprisoned by a former friend. \n\n\n\nA slip of a brick during a Roman parade causes Judah to be sent off as a galley slave\, his property confiscated and his mother and sister imprisoned. Years later\, Judah returns to his homeland an exalted and wealthy Roman athlete. Unable to find his mother and sister\, and believing them dead\, he can think of nothing else than revenge. \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThe film’s cast also includes Francis X. Bushman as Roman officer Messala; Claire McDowell as Miriam\, Judah’s mother; Kathleen Key as Tirzah\, Judah’s sister; and May McAvoy as Esther\, a merchant’s daughter. \n\n\n\nThe Lindsay has been hosting Pittsburgh Silent Film Festival screenings since its inception in 2023. That year\, the Theater showed the 1920 silent horror film The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari. In 2024\, the Pittsburgh Silent Film Society brought fellow Robert Wiene film The Hands of Orlac to the Sewickley nonprofit theater. \n\n\n\nChad Hunter\, the Pittsburgh Silent Film Society’s founder\, reminds silent film aficionados that the Library of Congress added Ben-Hur to the National Film Registry in 1997 because it “had such a tremendous influence on filmmakers of the day.” \n\n\n\n“In this year’s festival\, Ben-Hur is one of just a couple titles that are rarely screened or seen anymore\,” Hunter says. “Seeing this film in a theater\, on the big screen\, with live piano accompaniment by Tyler Stoner\, is an opportunity not to be missed!”
