That’s why this “roving grammarian” started setting up public “Grammar Tables” with the express purpose of inviting anyone to ask questions and\, ideally\, inspire civil and scintillating discussions. \n\n\n\nRebel With a Clause chronicles Jovin’s experiences behind her Grammar Table in all 50 states. Director (and Jovin’s husband) Brandt Johnson follows Jovin around as she interacts with everyday folks who have equally passionate opinions about the English language. \n\n\n\nJohnson and Jovin’s documentary is “the funniest movie so far this year\,” declares The Berkshire Edge. “The action is breezy and lighthearted” while also offering “instances of surprise” for even the most diehard grammar aficionados\, writes The New York Times. \n\n\n\n“Grammar is language glue that binds us together\,” Jovin told CBC News. “While we’re talking … we get this human connection\, this sense of community\, and it just feels so joyous and sometimes even raucous.” \n\n\n\nJohnson and Jovin will join us for an in-person Q&A following the 7 p.m. Rebel With a Clause screening on Friday\, Aug. 29. \n\n\n\n\nTickets and Showtimes for Rebel With a Clause\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArt for Everybody\n\n\n\nNR | 1h 46min\n\n\n\nDirector: Miranda Yousef\n\n\n\nStar: Thomas Kinkade\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nChances are good you’ve seen a Thomas Kinkade original. You may even own a print or mug made by one of the most commercially successful (and critically reviled) artists in American history. \n\n\n\nArt for Everybody documents Kinkade’s difficult life and shows that there was more to this “Painter of Light” than anyone could’ve guessed. \n\n\n\nDirector Miranda Yousef takes viewers into Kinkade’s “vault” of previously unreleased works that his family discovered following the artist’s shocking 2012 death. There are thousands of paintings in that collection\, many of which are darker and more formally interesting than the average Kinkade pastoral. \n\n\n\n“Many fascinating threads” are explored in Yousef’s “insightful and highly entertaining documentary\,” raves Variety. Art for Everybody is a “well-structured\, meticulously researched and revealing” film\, proclaims The New York Times.  \n\n\n\nAdds RogerEbert.com: “Miranda Yousef has come up with a structurally complex and very empathetic portrait of a troubled man. … This is a fascinating documentary about a family discovering the depth and complexity of their patriarch while coming to terms with his flaws.” \n\n\n\n\nTickets and Showtimes for Art for Everybody\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSanibel\n\n\n\nNR | 1h 6min\n\n\n\nDirector: Jamie Winterstern\n\n\n\nStars: Emily Miller\, Judy Beerman\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSanibel was originally conceived as a wholesome look at seashell culture in Southwest Florida. Its two stars\, Emily Miller and Judy Beerman\, are jovial figures with deep roots in that very tourist-friendly area. \n\n\n\nSix weeks into filming\, Hurricane Ian ravaged the Florida coast—including the tiny island of Sanibel. There was no way director Jamie Winterstern’s film could continue as planned amidst so much destruction and despair. \n\n\n\n“It looked like a nuclear bomb had let off\,” Miller told WBBH-TV. “All I could do was cry and say\, ‘My beloved island!’” \n\n\n\nWinterstern’s film suddenly became an exercise in capturing a grieving community’s efforts to heal and rebuild. Miller and Beerman instantly became symbols of hope and examples of resilience. \n\n\n\n“They’re very special people\,” Winterstern told WBBH. “I think being able to give them a voice is an accomplishment of what this movie does\, and I’m proud of it.” \n\n\n\nWinterstern will participate in a virtual Q&A following the 5 p.m. Sanibel screening on Monday\, Sept. 1. \n\n\n\n\nTickets and Showtimes for Sanibel\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSingle-Use Planet\n\n\n\nNR | 57min\n\n\n\nDirector: Steve Cowan\n\n\n\nStars: Rocco Martini\, Sharon Pillar\, Lew Villotti\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe’re all taught from an early age to separate trash from recyclable materials. So then why does so much plastic still end up in our oceans? In Single-Use Planet\, director Steve Cowan attempts to uncover the political and economic factors that have resulted in plastic becoming a major aquatic pollutant. \n\n\n\n“While filming content for another project out at sea\, we found ourselves at times amidst vast gyres of ocean plastic stretching from horizon to horizon\,” Cowan tells KQED. \n\n\n\n“We knew at that point that we had to tell the story of the growing dangers of the overuse of discardable\, single-use plastics that are threatening our oceans and\, in many cases\, our health.” \n\n\n\nCowan’s investigation begins in Pennsylvania and features plenty of politicians\, scientists and concerned citizens from the Keystone State. Single-Use Planet interviews a few figures from the Pittsburgh area—including multiple Beaver residents and leaders. \n\n\n\n“Ultimately\, each person and family will make their own decisions about using plastic\,” says Cowan. “We simply hope to provide as much information as possible to inform those decisions.” \n\n\n\nLocal environmental experts and advocates will join us for an in-person panel discussion following the 2:45 p.m. Single Use-Planet screening on Saturday\, Sept. 6. \n\n\n\n\nTickets and Showtimes for Single-Use Planet\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCaregiving\n\n\n\nPG | 1h 54min\n\n\n\nDirector: Chris Durrance\n\n\n\nStars: Bradley Cooper\, Uzo Aduba\, Matthew Cauli\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEvery day\, roughly 63 million Americans serve as primary caregivers for an ill or aging loved one. Their lives are put on pause due to this immense responsibility they perform out of pure devotion—but also at great physical\, mental and financial costs.  \n\n\n\nCaregiving spotlights the daily challenges and triumphs experienced by just a few of these individuals. Director Chris Durrance’s subjects include a young father caring for his wife and son; a 14-year-old helping his father look after his ailing mother; and a young woman taking care of her dementia-stricken father. \n\n\n\nDurrance’s documentary was executive produced by Oscar nominee Bradley Cooper and narrated by Emmy winner Uzo Aduba. Both actors have served as caregivers for parents during their battles with cancer. \n\n\n\n“Caregivers are heroic people\,” says Cooper in a press release.”Their ability to focus and give all of themselves is something I stand in awe of. … It is my hope that Caregiving will provide affirmation and support for those who do this profoundly meaningful and increasingly vital work.” \n\n\n\nThe Lindsay showed a shorter Caregiving cut earlier this summer in front of a sold-out crowd. Documentary Series audiences will see the full version of this moving and powerful film. \n\n\n\nDurrance will participate in a virtual Q&A following the 7 p.m. Caregiving showing on Monday\, Sept. 8. \n\n\n\n\nTickets and Showtimes for Caregiving\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGeorgia O’Keeffe: The Brightness of Light\n\n\n\nNR | 1h 58min\n\n\n\nDirector: Paul Wagner\n\n\n\nStars: Claire Danes\, Hugh Dancy\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGeorgia O’Keeffe was affectionately known as the “Mother of American Modernism.” She lived for 98 captivating years that produced countless masterpieces and a great deal of interest in her personal life. \n\n\n\nGeorgia O’Keeffe: The Brightness of Light is a comprehensive window into O’Keeffe’s remarkable talent\, her relationship with fellow artist Alfred Stieglitz and the renowned painter’s lasting impact on an entire medium. \n\n\n\nThe film is narrated by Hannibal star Hugh Dancy\, and Emmy winner Claire Danes serves as O’Keeffe’s voice. The Brightness of Light was directed by Paul Wagner\, who won the 1985 Academy Award for Best Documentary Short as co-director of The Stone Carver. \n\n\n\nPaul and Ellen Casey Wagner\, his producing partner and wife\, were inspired to make The Brightness of Light after perusing a museum exhibit about O’Keeffe in 2018. Their goal was to make the greatest documentary about O’Keeffe in nearly half a century. \n\n\n\n“In the last years of Georgia O’Keeffe’s life\, curator Sarah Greenough of the National Gallery of Art created an exhibit including letters to and from Alfred Stieglitz\,” Paul Wagner says. “O’Keeffe had only two requests regarding the presentation. DESCRIPTION:Local filmmaker David Altrogge’s documentary about The Great One is coming to The Lindsay!\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBuy Tickets Here!\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nThe Lindsay will soon be showing a locally produced documentary about arguably the greatest athlete to ever play for a Pittsburgh professional sports team. \n\n\n\nClemente will play at The Lindsay from (at least) Sept. 12-18. Duane Rieder\, founder of The Clemente Museum in Lawrenceville and a prominent local photographer\, will introduce the 4:30 p.m. Clemente screening on Sunday\, Sept. 14. \n\n\n\nDirector David Altrogge’s film spotlights Pirates legend Roberto Clemente’s amazing life\, baseball career\, and why he remains such a revered figure in Western Pennsylvania and beyond. \n\n\n\nThe film starts with Clemente’s childhood in Puerto Rico\, takes viewers through his Pirates heyday\, and immortalizes The Great One’s philanthropic legacy that was tragically exemplified by his 1972 death in a plane crash while delivering aid to Nicaragua. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThe documentary includes interviews with Clemente’s sons\, Luis and Robert Jr.; the last interview with his late wife\, Vera; multiple Pirates legends; contemporary Major League Baseball stars like Francisco Lindor and Yadier Molina; Pittsburgh-raised movie star Michael Keaton; and Rita Moreno\, an Oscar-winning actor and fellow Puerto Rican icon. \n\n\n\nAltrogge is the co-founder of locally based production company Vinegar Hill. He and Vinegar Hill co-founder Michael Barnett produced Clemente alongside a group that also includes renowned director Richard Linklater and the SpringHill Company duo of Maverick Carter and NBA superstar LeBron James. \n\n\n\nThis is the second Altrogge-directed film to play at The Lindsay. Neat: The Story of Bourbon was part of the Theater’s 2024 Documentary Series. Altrogge graciously appeared at the Theater for a Neat Q&A\, and we hope he’ll be available again to discuss making this beautiful tribute to The Great One with Lindsay patrons. \n\n\n\n“Clemente is a quintessential Pittsburgh story\,” Altrogge says. “His mission was about bringing people together. We hope this film brings people together in Pittsburgh and across the world.”

DESCRIPTION:Check out this local screening of Pittsburgher Kenny Zimlinghaus’ new buddy comedy!\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRSVP Here!\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nThe Lindsay’s latest Emerging Filmmakers Showcase is a brand-new buddy comedy starring a prominent Pittsburgh media personality. \n\n\n\nNot If I See You First was written and directed by Illinois-based filmmaker Aaron Wertheimer. It stars Wertheimer and Jefferson Hills’ Kenny Zimlinghaus as two guys whose lives are forever changed after a chance meeting in Chicago. \n\n\n\nThis two-hander will have its Western Pennsylvania premiere at The Lindsay on Thursday\, Sept. 18\, at 7 p.m. Zimlinghaus will be on hand for an in-person Q&A following the screening. Tickets are free\, but RSVPs are recommended in advance due to space limitations. \n\n\n\nKenny (Zimlinghaus) meets Aaron (Wertheimer) during a work trip to Chicago. Aaron convinces him to extend that trip. But when Kenny’s car explodes and Aaron gets selective amnesia\, will their fledgling friendship survive? The Not If I See You First cast also includes Johanna Wertheimer\, Elizabeth Stam and Leslie Crum. \n\n\n\n\nZimlinghaus is a Long Island\, N.Y.\, native who has been living in Western Pennsylvania for the past decade. The actor and nationally touring comedian is also a radio/podcast program coordinator in Robert Morris University’s Academic Media Center. His Not If I See You First character is also a Pittsburgher\, and he wears a “pretty sweet Pittsburgh shirt” for a large portion of his screen time.  \n\n\n\n“Pittsburgh has been a special place for me\, and not just since I moved here\,” Zimlinghaus says. “My wife is from here\, and I’ve learned to really fall in love with it here. So getting to know the city and its humor\, I think this film fits right into the funny\, zany and obscure things people from Pittsburgh may find amusing. I’m looking forward to the screening\, and hope I do the Steel City proud!” \n\n\n\nWertheimer is a seasoned filmmaker who has now written and directed three comedies. Fun fact: The Skokie\, Ill.\, resident’s wife and two children all appear in Not If I See You First. Another fun fact: Wertheimer’s in-laws live in Squirrel Hill\, and Mario Lemieux is his favorite hockey player. \n\n\n\n“Not If I See You First is a straight-up heartfelt comedy\, which is becoming more and more rare in indie film\,” says Wertheimer. “A big goal with the film is just for people to get lost in its absurd logic and have a good time watching it.”
