SUMMARY:'Caregiving' with Ryan Shazier Fund
DESCRIPTION:Join former Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier for an exclusive ‘Caregiving’ screening!\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBuy Tickets Here!\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nThe Lindsay has partnered with WQED and the Ryan Shazier Fund for Spinal Rehabilitation to bring back Caregiving during National Family Caregivers Month. \n\n\n\nThe PBS documentary Caregiving returns to The Lindsay on Wednesday\, Nov. 19\, at 7 p.m. We will show the full-length version of director Chris Durrance’s inspirational film.  \n\n\n\nThis event will also include a 6:30 p.m. reception in The Lindsay’s Community Room\, sponsored by the Richard King Mellon Foundation. Shazier\, a former Steelers linebacker\, will attend the reception and introduce the screening. Tickets are available for $8.75. \n\n\n\nThis Caregiving screening was conceived as an evening of warmth\, camaraderie and recognition for all caregivers. Shazier and members of his organization will be on hand to thank caregivers for their amazing work and dedication. \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nCaregiving was produced by Bradley Cooper\, who also appears in the film\, and narrated by Emmy winner Uzo Aduba. Both acclaimed actors have served as caregivers for a sick parent. Caregiving highlights the many challenges and triumphs that those caring for a sick parent or loved one experience every day. \n\n\n\nSome of the caregivers featured in this film include a young father caring for both his wife and son; a 14-year-old who\, along with his father\, shares the role of caregiver for his mom; and a young woman looking after her dementia-stricken father. \n\n\n\nShazier is an Ohio State University graduate who the Steelers picked 15th overall in the 2014 NFL Draft. He made two Pro Bowls with the Steelers\, but his career was abruptly ended after suffering a spinal contusion during a game in December 2017. Shazier officially retired from the NFL in September 2020. \n\n\n\nAfter 130 spinal rehabilitation sessions\, Shazier not only gained back the strength to walk\, but he was able to dance with his wife at their wedding. He founded the Shazier Fund in November 2020. Shazier currently serves as the president and board chairman for this nonprofit dedicated to ensuring SCI (spinal cord injury) patients have access to the treatments they need.
