SUMMARY:'Pursuing Light: The Bill Strickland Story'
DESCRIPTION:Watch this inspiring documentary about a truly good Pittsburgh icon on the big screen! \n\n\n\n\n\n\nPurchase Tickets Here!\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nThe Lindsay will soon show an uplifting documentary about a Pittsburgh native who has given countless children and adults worldwide the opportunity to pursue their creative and professional passions. \n\n\n\nPursuing Light: The Bill Strickland Story spotlights the remarkable life and career of Bill Strickland\, who founded the locally based Manchester Bidwell Corporation in the early 1970s and spent the next 50-plus years facilitating the creation of another 16 nonprofit vocational training and arts education centers domestically and abroad. \n\n\n\nYou can experience Pursuing Light on The Lindsay’s big screen on Saturday\, Oct. 10\, at 1 p.m. All tickets for this special showing will cost $6.50 and are available both online and at our box office. \n\n\n\n“This movie feels like a prayer\,” Stricklands says through his other nonprofit\, the Strickland Global Leadership Institute. “It’s hope for all of us. It’s medicine. … This is beyond what I was expecting to see.” \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nDirector Karen Somers’ film was recently nominated for Best Documentary at this year’s Mid-Atlantic Emmy Awards. Strickland talks candidly about his childhood in Pittsburgh and lifelong efforts to give others the support he received. You’ll hear from many of his admirers and colleagues—and enjoy a cameo from Fred Rogers\, who Strickland considered a great friend and collaborator. \n\n\n\nStrickland developed his own love of jazz\, pottery and all forms of art while growing up in Manchester. He founded the Manchester Craftsman’s Guild in 1968 as a University of Pittsburgh underclassman. This after-school ceramics program was designed for Strickland to pass on his love of ceramics to others in his neighborhood and the greater Pittsburgh area. \n\n\n\nHe continued to grow MCG following his graduation from Pitt and\, in 1972\, took over Pittsburgh’s Bidwell Training Center. Strickland continued to revolutionize arts and general vocational training for both children and adults by establishing educational venues full of beautiful learning environments\, caring instructors\, supportive and challenging programming\, and an overall culture of hope and personal transformation. \n\n\n\n“I made a pledge that I would commit my life to bringing light into every corner of the world that I could reach\,” Strickland says in Pursuing Light. “So I plan to redeem that commitment that I made every day\, in some way.”

SUMMARY:'Under the Lights' Special Showing
DESCRIPTION:Experience this touching drama about a young man with epilepsy and meet the film’s director! \n\n\n\n\n\n\nPurchase Tickets Here!\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nThe Lindsay is partnering with the Epilepsy Association of Western and Central Pa. for a special showing of a moving film and a chance to meet its extraordinary director in person. \n\n\n\nUnder the Lights follows Sam (Pearce Joza)\, a teenager living with epilepsy. Sam so desperately wants to feel normal that he’s willing to risk everything for an unforgettable shot at prom\, first love and one night of real freedom—even knowing that all those flashing lights could trigger a seizure. \n\n\n\nWriter-director Miles Levin’s film will play at The Lindsay on Sunday\, Oct. 18\, at 1 p.m. Tickets are on sale for $6.50 each and include admission to the film\, one small popcorn and a fountain drink. Levin will be at the Theater for a live Q&A after the screening and post-show meet-and-greet. \n\n\n\n“People with epilepsy are rarely portrayed on screen in ways that feel authentic and relatable\,” says Levin. “Under the Lights tells a very human story about wanting to belong\, finding independence and navigating a life that others may not fully understand.” \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nUnder the Lights was originally a short film also written and directed by Levin. The short screened in Pittsburgh four years ago as part of Film Pittsburgh’s 2022 ReelAbilities festival. \n\n\n\nThe feature-length version of Under the Lights also stars Joza (Disney’s Zombies franchise) as Sam alongside an expanded cast that includes Tanzyn Crawford (A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms)\, Lake Bell (Boston Legal)\, Nick Offerman (Parks and Recreation)\, Randall Park (Fresh Off the Boat)\, Mark Duplass (The Morning Show) and Marin Hinkle (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel). \n\n\n\nUnder the Lights depicts epilepsy beyond its physical symptoms. Levin’s film explores friendship\, independence\, acceptance and the desire to live life on your own terms—experiences that are both deeply personal and universal. \n\n\n\n“We want people to come see this extraordinary film\, meet Miles\, and become part of a larger movement to increase understanding and awareness of epilepsy\,” says Peggy Beem Jelley\, EAWCP’s president and CEO. “For families affected by epilepsy\, it is also a wonderful opportunity to see their experiences reflected on the big screen and to share that experience with others in our community.”

SUMMARY:Emerging Filmmakers Showcase: 'CarousHell 4'
DESCRIPTION:The Lindsay’s latest Emerging Filmmakers Showcase is a locally filmed horror-comedy that’s a perfect way to kick off your Hallo-weekend! \n\n\n\nCarousHell 4 is the latest installment in Pittsburgh-based filmmaker Steve Rudzinksi’s ongoing story about a sentient carousel unicorn\, his son and their seemingly never-ending battles against malevolent supernatural forces. Rudzinski is a Lindsay veteran who was most recently here in January for I: Scream—A Minty Musical\, which he co-wrote with his wife\, Aleen Isley. \n\n\n\nFans of Western Pennsylvania-made horror can check out CarousHell 4 at The Lindsay on Thursday\, Oct. 29\, at 7:30 p.m. Rudzinski will be on hand for a filmmaker Q&A immediately following the screening. Tickets are free\, and RSVPs are recommended in advance via the sign-up form below due to space limitations. \n\n\n\n“These are all very silly\, funny and over-the-top live-action cartoons\,” Rudzinski says of the CarousHell franchise. “This won’t be a Halloween film to scream at—it will be one to laugh and cheer with!” \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe original CarousHell debuted in 2016 and followed Duke the unicorn (voiced by Steve Rimpici) as he broke free from his ride and sought revenge on his abusers. Duke’s son\, Robbie (voiced by B. Barnabei)\, was introduced in the film’s 2021 sequel. In CarousHell 4\, Duke’s main objective is helping Robbie understand that growing up isn’t scary. \n\n\n\nOn a father-son vacation to a cabin in the woods\, Robbie finds the Nekkomeownicon and attempts to contact his late mother. But these words are instead heard by The Leviathan and its demon horde. Evil Dead enthusiasts will appreciate the Nekkomeownicon as a direct homage to that series’ cursed tome\, the Necronomicon. Rudzinksi explained that the creatures Duke and Robbie are contending with in CarousHell 4 were also inspired by Evil Dead monsters known as Deadites. \n\n\n\nThe film’s mostly local cast includes Isley—who co-wrote CarousHell 4 and also returns as the villainous Ilsa—Ben Dietels\, Sarah Brunner\, Mark McConnell Jr.\, Chris Proud and P.J. Gaynard. Most of CarousHell 4 was filmed at Portals of Fear\, a haunted attraction in West Mifflin. “The incredible set built by the Portals of Fear team\, along with our lighting\, oozes Halloween atmosphere\,” Rudzinski says. \n\n\n\nRudzinski loves that a decade into Duke and Robbie’s adventures\, “so many people around the world genuinely care about these characters.” They come for horror hijinks and Looney Tunes-esque antics\, but end up sticking around after making an “emotional connection to what in real life are two inanimate objects.” \n\n\n\nThough his work has been screened worldwide\, Rudzinski will always make a point to share these films with his hometown. \n\n\n\n“There are fans all over the world selling out theaters for these silly killer unicorn films\,” he says. “But as someone who lives in this area\, it is important to me to continue hiring mostly local talent\, to film the movie locally and to show the local audience the kind of talent that lives next door to them. As long as The Lindsay welcomes me back\, I will continue having these free screenings to bring the community together to share a fun time.” \n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n Emerging Filmmakers Showcase CAROUSHELL 4 October 29\, 2026 Reservation Sign Up\n \n \n FacebookThis field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged.Name(Required)\n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n Number of Tickets(Required)Phone Number(Required)Email(Required)\n \n Any Special Accommodations (Seating Accessibility\, etc.)?

SUMMARY:Emerging Filmmakers Showcase: 'Cinema Nomad'
DESCRIPTION:The Lindsay’s first November Emerging Filmmakers Showcase will immerse audiences in faraway lands with the help of native moviemakers. \n\n\n\nCinema Nomad follows award-winning filmmaker Stephanie Gardner as she enlists local auteurs to explore various countries through the lens of their cinematic pasts\, presents and futures. Season 2 premiered in September and has so far featured excursions to countries such as Zimbabwe\, Albania\, Belgium and Argentina. The series\, distributed by American Public Television\, is currently available on PBS and other public television stations nationwide. \n\n\n\nGardner is bringing two Cinema Nomad episodes to The Lindsay—specifically\, her visits to Montenegro and the Philippines—on Wednesday\, Nov. 4\, at 7 p.m. The Allentown\, Pa.\, native will be on hand for an in-person Q&A following the screening. Tickets are free\, and we recommend RSVPing via the sign-up form below due to space limitations. \n\n\n\nGardner’s tour guide in the Montenegro episode is filmmaker Senad Šahmanović\, who helps her understand how the European country’s transition to democracy helped shape his cinematic vision\, leading a New Wave. Her Philippines expedition includes hiking ancient terraces\, traversing rapids and highlighting the work of filmmaker Martika Ramirez Escobar\, who is known for telling personal stories with quirky twists. \n\n\n\n“We curated this special screening specifically for The Lindsay\,” Gardner says. ” I’m so excited to be there in person to share the stories of Senad\, Martika and other global filmmakers\, and especially to be amongst friends and family in Western Pennsylvania!” \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCinema Nomad originally began as 33 and Me\, a film project that Gardner conceived as her 33rd birthday approached. Gardner set out with Duprelon Tizdale\, her co-producer and cinematographer\, to find filmmakers in their 30s representing 33-plus countries from every inhabited continent. \n\n\n\n33 and Me eventually transformed into the fully-fledged international travel docuseries now known as Cinema Nomad. \n\n\n\n“Traveling and filming with Cinema Nomad has shown me the world is big enough that there are endless things to see\, do\, experience and learn\, yet small enough that we humans share so many similarities no matter where we’re from\,” says Gardner. “Through cinema and storytelling\, we’re able to connect across cultures to see and know places we wouldn’t otherwise be exposed to.” \n\n\n\nIn addition to Cinema Nomad\, Gardner has also written\, directed and produced more than 30 short films. She deeply values the communal movie theater experience—especially when everyone is learning about the wonders and struggles of faraway lands in one shared space. \n\n\n\n“For me\, there’s nothing more democratic (other than voting!) than sitting together in a cinema and experiencing stories of individuals openly sharing their lives\, homes\, cultures and ideas with you\,” Gardner says. “The landscapes of both Montenegro and the Philippines are stunning to boot\, and it’s not every day you see these two countries come together on the big screen!” \n\n\n\n\n \n \n Emerging Filmmakers Showcase CINEMA NOMAD November 4\, 2026 Reservation Sign Up\n \n \n InstagramThis field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged.Name(Required)\n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n Number of Tickets(Required)Phone Number(Required)Email(Required)\n \n Any Special Accommodations (Seating Accessibility\, etc.)?
