SUMMARY:Summer Series: Nine on '90s
DESCRIPTION:Were you as obsessed with Love Story as everyone else? Are you back to buying baggie jeans and denim jackets? Do you suddenly want to “go analog” again? If so\, you may have ’90s fever—and so does The Lindsay! \n \nOur annual Summer Series returns with nine—that’s right\, nine—beloved ’90s classics. We’re breaking out a wide variety of that decade’s most cherished films\, from blockbusters such as Jurassic Park and The Mask to steamier fare such as Ghost and Basic Instinct. \n \nThe Lindsay is also honoring the late Robert Redford with A River Runs Through It; revisiting the Denzel Washington-Julia Roberts thriller The Pelican Brief; celebrating Jerry Maguire‘s 30th anniversary; and highlighting 35 years of Boyz N the Hood and Thelma & Louise. \n \nThese films will all screen twice between Thursday\, June 4\, and Thursday\, Aug. 27.Give in to your ’90s fever and join us for nine summer favorites you already know are all that and a bag of chips! \n \n\n \n\n \nJerry Maguire (30th Anniversary)\n \nR | 2h 19min | Drama\, Comedy\, Romance\n \nDirector: Cameron Crowe\n \nStars: Tom Cruise\, Cuba Gooding Jr.\, Renée Zellweger\n \nTHURSDAY\, JUNE 4\, AT 7:30 P.M.; SUNDAY\, JUNE 14\, AT 1 P.M. \n \nJerry Maguire stars Tom Cruise as a sports agent experiencing an identity crisis. He leaves a high-powered job to start his own agency with only love-struck accountant Dorothy Boyd (Renée Zellweger) and loyal football star Rod Tidwell—Cuba Gooding Jr.\, who won an Oscar for this role—by his side. \n \nCruise exudes “gentleness\, warmth and lightheartedness” in this “joyous redemptive romantic comedy\,” praises The Washington Post. Director Cameron Crowe’s film is full of “bright\, funny\, tender encounters between characters who seem so winningly warm and real\,” raves The New York Times. \n \n”Jerry Maguire moves unpredictably through its tale of comeuppance and redemption\, but it never loses its bearings. Disarming acting\, colorful writing and true generosity of spirit keep it right on track. … Cruise does some of his best real acting here.” \n \n \nTickets and Showtimes for Jerry Maguire\n \n \n\n \n\n \nA River Runs Through It\n \nPG | 2h 3min | Drama\, Coming-Of-Age\n \nDirector: Robert Redford\n \nStars: Brad Pitt\, Tom Skerritt\, Craig Sheffer\n \nTUESDAY\, JUNE 9\, AT 7:30 P.M.; SUNDAY\, JUNE 21\, AT 1 P.M. \n \nA River Runs Through It is late Hollywood legend Robert Redford’s adaptation of author Norman MacLean’s semi-autobiographical novel. It follows brothers Paul and Norman MacLean (Brad Pitt and Craig Sheffer) during their formative years in rural Montana as they develop a life-long passion for fly-fishing. \n \nRedford’s film\, which won a Best Cinematography Oscar\, “gives a strong physical sense of the majestic mountains and brilliant rivers of Montana\,” applauds Variety. This “lyrical\, poignant drama” was “beautifully shot and acted\,” declares The Hollywood Reporter. \n \n“Sheffer and Pitt are perfectly suited to their respective roles\, with the former exhibiting a quiet\, controlled intelligence\, while Pitt gives off a devil-may-care sparkle. … Tom Skerritt\, meanwhile\, has one of his richest roles in years as their emotionally cutoff father.” \n \n \nTickets and Showtimes for A River Runs Through It\n \n \n\n \n\n \nGhost\n \nPG-13 | 2h 6min | Drama\, Romance\, Fantasy\n \nDirector: Jerry Zucker\n \nStars: Patrick Swayze\, Demi Moore\, Whoopi Goldberg\n \nTUESDAY\, JUNE 16\, AT 7:30 P.M.; SUNDAY\, JUNE 28\, AT 1 P.M. \n \nGhost\, a two-time Oscar winner\, earned the No. 6 and No. 7 spots\, respectively\, on IMDB and Variety‘s Greatest Romantic Movies of All Time rankings. Murdered banker Sam (Patrick Swayze) sets out on an afterlife quest to save his girlfriend\, Molly (Demi Moore)\, from suffering a similar fate. \n \nThe “funny\, mysterious and finally moving” Ghost remains a “dazzlingly enjoyable pop thriller\,” proclaims Entertainment Weekly. “This weepie classic retains an innocence and earnestness that makes it as delightfully comforting as ever\,” lauds The Guardian. \n \n“Bruce Joel Rubin’s script is a lethally effective tragicomic fantasy. … Jerry Zucker is a genius at spoofing certain genres in the service of deadpan gags; with Ghost\, he proved himself a master craftsman\, knowing how to tell the story well and play it absolutely straight while also delivering the comedy.” \n \n \nTickets and Showtimes for Ghost\n \n \n\n \n\n \nJurassic Park\n \nPG-13 | 2h 7min | Adventure\, Action\, Fantasy\n \nDirector: Steven Spielberg\n \nStars: Sam Neill\, Laura Dern\, Jeff Goldblum\n \nTHURSDAY\, JUNE 25\, AT 7:30 P.M.; SUNDAY\, JULY 5\, AT 1 P.M. \n \nSteven Spielberg invented the summer blockbuster with Jaws and redefined the concept with the original Jurassic Park. Paleontologist Alan Grant (Sam Neil)\, paleobotanist Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern) and mathematician Ian Malcolm (Pittsburgh native Jeff Goldblum) must survive encounters with real dinosaurs. \n \n“The dinosaurs in Jurassic Park are fabulous” as Spielberg “delivers thrills with all his genius\,” commends New York Magazine. This “rip-roaring” adventure and three-time Oscar-winner “will be around until the dinosaurs come back\,” writes USA Today. \n \n“Spielberg’s must-see is so wondrous at depicting things that go crunch in the night. .. Utterly convincing\, the film has two of the best thrill set pieces ever: a monsoon-set attack by a Tyrannosaurus rex and a galloping-gourmet kitchen stalking of the youngsters by a pair of snarling velociraptors.” \n \n \nTickets and Showtimes for Jurassic Park\n \n \n\n \n\n \nThe Pelican Brief\n \nPG-13 | 2h 21min | Thriller\, Drama\n \nDirector: Alan J. Pakula\n \nStars: Julia Roberts\, Denzel Washington\, Sam Shepard\n \nTHURSDAY\, JULY 9\, AT 7:30 P.M.; SUNDAY\, JULY 19\, AT 1 P.M.\n \nThe Pelican Brief is director Alan J. Pakula’s take on author John Grisham’s 1992 novel. This political thriller stars Julia Roberts as Darby Shaw\, a law student who inadvertently discovers a dangerous conspiracy. She receives help untangling this web from reporter Gray Grantham (Denzel Washington). \n \n“This is a solid and intelligent” film with multiple “stand-out nail-biting set pieces\,” praises Empire. Roberts and Washington “have a real chemistry” and prove conclusively “the value of star power” at the movies\, Roger Ebert wrote in 1993. \n \n“Because the atmosphere is skillfully drawn\, because the actors are well cast and because Pakula knows how to construct a sequence to make it work\, the movie delivers while it’s onscreen.”  \n \n \nTickets and Showtimes for The Pelican Brief\n \n \n\n \n\n \nBoyz N the Hood (35th Anniversary)\n \nR | 1h 52min | Drama\, Coming-Of-Age\n \nDirector: John Singleton\n \nStars: Ice Cube\, Cuba Gooding Jr.\, Laurence Fishburne\n \nSUNDAY\, JULY 26\, AT 1 P.M.; TUESDAY\, AUG. 4\, AT 7:30 P.M.\n \nBoyz N the Hood\, writer-director John Singleton’s semi-autobiographical drama\, stars Cuba Gooding Jr.\, Ice Cube and Morris Chestnut as three young Black men living in Los Angeles. They embody the everyday struggles and difficult choices that Singleton witnessed during his own adolescence. \n \nSingleton was nominated for Best Director and Best Original Screenplay Oscars for creating a “remarkably loose\, easy feel that mimics the character of lived experience\,” applauds Slant Magazine. Thirty-five years later\, Boyz N the Hood is still “one of the great films about Black American life\,” raves Time Out. \n \n“Employing a loose\, episodic structure\, Singleton’s script is a masterclass in making complex social and political issues easy to digest and audience-friendly—remarkable for a writer-director who was just 23 when the film was released. … It remains politically astute and fiercely entertaining.” \n \n \nTickets and Showtimes for Boyz N the Hood\n \n \n\n \n\n \nBasic Instinct\n \nR | 2h 7min | Thriller\, Mystery\, Romance\n \nDirector: Paul Verhoeven\n \nStars: Sharon Stone\, Michael Douglas\, Jeanne Tripplehorn\n \nSUNDAY\, AUG. 2\, AT 1 P.M.; THURSDAY\, AUG. 13\, AT 7:30 P.M. \n \nBasic Instinct is on just about every list of greatest erotic thrillers ever made. Det. Nick Curran (Michael Douglas) is charged with investigating a brutal murder. The trail leads him to novelist Catherine Tramell (Meadville native Sharon Stone)\, who beguiles Nick while he is looking into her potential crimes. \n \n“Basic Instinct was a landmark for erotic thrillers\, and few have bested it since\,” proclaims IndieWire. Stone “revels in her shameless arch-villain top energy\, leaving teethmarks all over the furniture\,” lauds Rolling Stone. \n \n“Director Paul Verhoeven and writer Joe Eszterhas kicked off a ’90s golden age for the genre with this trashy magnum opus\, streamlining all the erotic thriller tropes into a glossy blockbuster.” \n \n \nTickets and Showtimes for Basic Instinct\n \n \n\n \n\n \nThe Mask\n \nPG-13 | 1h 41min | Comedy\, Fantasy\n \nDirector: Chuck Russell\n \nStars: Jim Carrey\, Cameron Diaz\, Peter Riegert\n \nSUNDAY\, AUG. 9\, AT 1 P.M.; THURSDAY\, AUG. 20\, AT 7:30 P.M. \n \nThe Mask highlights stars Jim Carrey at his zaniest—and this time with superpowers to boot. He plays Stanley Ipkiss\, a mild-mannered bank clerk who is transformed by an enchanted mask. He gains both an aggressively outgoing personality and the ability to alter reality. What could go wrong? \n \nPlenty of “exuberant fun” is generated by Carrey acting “at the top of his manic range\,” commends BBC. “Carrey’s performance in The Mask is another one of his roles that feels tailor-made for him\,” compliments Collider. \n \n“His exaggerated expressions\, elastic body movements and energetic line deliveries make the character feel like a live-action cartoon. …  The film remains a beloved classic\, blending humor\, romance and dazzling visual effects.” \n \n \nTickets and Showtimes for The Mask\n \n \n\n \n\n \nThelma & Louise (35th Anniversary)\n \nR | 2h 10min | Drama\, Comedy\, Crime\n \nDirector: Ridley Scott\n \nStars: Susan Sarandon\, Geena Davis\, Harvey Keitel\n \nSUNDAY\, AUG. 16\, AT 1 P.M.; THURSDAY\, AUG. 27\, AT 7:30 P.M. \n \nThelma & Louise may be 35\, but this tragicomic adventure hasn’t aged a day. The titular duo set off on an innocent road trip that’s complicated when Louise (Susan Sarandon) kills a man who attempted to assault Thelma (Geena Davis). This film’s final scene is still one of the most famous endings in cinema history. \n \nDirector Ridley Scott “balanced action\, comedy and doomy subtext to create a morally firm yet very entertaining fable\,” praises Time Magazine. Thelma & Louise is “a gripping\, moving buddy movie set against the promise and perils of the American West\,” declares The A.V. Club. \n \n“It remains a stunning reminder that artists with something to say should first entertain. And however often it dips into darkness—up to and including the fade to white that ends the movie—Thelma & Louise remains a subversively buoyant piece of entertainment.” \n \n \nTickets and Showtimes for Thelma & Louise

SUMMARY:'Forever Young: A Bob Dylan Tribute' World Premiere
DESCRIPTION:Two Pittsburgh legends united last year for one night of unforgettable music. That concert was captured in a documentary that’s being shown for the first time at The Lindsay! \n\n\n\nForever Young: A Bob Dylan Tribute transports viewers back to that magical evening in summer 2025 when famed Pittsburgh musicians Billy Price and Joe Grushecky took the stage and serenaded the audience at Lawrenceville’s Thunderbird Café & Music Hall with a selection of Bob Dylan’s most beloved hits. \n\n\n\nThe world premiere of director Len Caric’s rock doc will take place at The Lindsay on Sunday\, Aug. 30\, at 1 p.m. In addition to showing the film\, Price and Gruschecky will perform live in The Lindsay’s Large Screening Room and participate in a post-screening Q&A. \n\n\n\nThis event is The Lindsay’s latest Emerging Filmmakers Showcase\, which gives local filmmakers the opportunity to share their work on the big screen at no cost to them or our guests. We recommend RSVPs in advance via the below sign-up form due to space limitations. \n\n\n\n“When do you ever get to see two living legends of your own hometown on the big screen?” says Caric. “This is a chance to celebrate Pittsburgh’s own\, to feel proud of what this city produces and to experience music that genuinely means something.” \n\n\n\nCaric co-founded and runs Jule Stories\, a Pittsburgh-based production company\, with his wife\, Judy Caric. The veteran businessman is also an adjunct professor of entrepreunership in Carnegie Mellon University’s Tepper School of Business. \n\n\n\nForever Young spotlights local icons Price\, also known as the “East Coast King of Blue-Eyed Soul\,” and Grushecky\, who alongside his Houserockers band has been a Pittsburgh staple since the late 1970s. \n\n\n\n“When I heard about this show\, I knew immediately that I had to capture it\,” says Caric. “These are not young artists at the beginning of something—they are masters at the height of their wisdom and artistry. People need to see what great musicianship looks like.” \n\n\n\nPrice and Grushecky are perfect avatars for Bob Dylan’s music thanks to their working-class Pittsburgh upbringings\, posits Caric. “Billy and Joe didn’t just play Bob Dylan songs—they brought their entire lives and style to them. When a Pittsburgh musician sings Everything is Broken or Positively 4th Street\, it lands differently than it does anywhere else.” \n\n\n\nEven the lucky few who witnessed their live Bob Dylan tribute concert will get to experience it from new\, more intimate angles in Forever Young. Their fans will also be treated to conversations with Price and Grushecky about their relationships with Dylan\, each other\, their hometown and much more. \n\n\n\n“A concert is an event\,” says Caric. “A documentary like this is a portrait. The theater does something the living room can’t: It creates a communal experience\, where you laugh and feel and applaud together. Great music was always meant to be shared in a room full of people.” \n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n FOREVER YOUNG World Premiere Aug. 30\, 2026 Reservation Sign Up\n \n \n InstagramThis field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged.Name(Required)\n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n Number of Tickets Requested(Required)Please enter a number from 1 to 6.Phone Number(Required)Email(Required)\n \n Any Special Accommodations (Seating Accessibility\, etc.)?

SUMMARY:Emerging Filmmakers Showcase: 'Fedeltà. Soldier. Prisoner.'
DESCRIPTION:The Lindsay’s latest Emerging Filmmakers Showcase is a riveting and uplifting documentary highlighting a story that began in South-Central Pennsylvania almost 90 years ago. \n\n\n\nFedeltà. Soldier. Prisoner. is an internationally acclaimed film from Bloomfield-raised director Steve Mancini. It focuses on Italian prisoners of war captured in North Africa and Sicily who ended up at Letterkenny Army Depot outside of Chambersburg\, Pa. Their fairly short stay left an impact on that region that is still felt today. \n\n\n\nMancini’s film will play at The Lindsay on Thursday\, Sept. 3\, at 7:30 p.m. He will be on hand for a live filmmaker Q&A immediately following the screening. Tickets are free\, and RSVPs are recommended in advance via the below sign-up form due to space limitations. \n\n\n\n“The film shows that the people of Chambersburg were so kind that to this day\, the families of the prisoners still make trips to visit\,” says Mancini. “It’s a way of remembering their fathers and grandfathers\, and also a display of appreciation because of how kindly those communities treated their fathers and grandfathers.” \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFedeltà chronicles the prisoners’ journey from war to peace\, leveraging original documents and footage from numerous sources. It’s a moving and hopeful film that depicts how this difficult situation turned into a prime example of community-building that left a lasting\, positive mark on Chambersburg. \n\n\n\n“After more than 80 years\, people who have never been here still speak well of our community\,” says Mancini. “How incredible is that!” \n\n\n\nMancini spent 20 years in the military before returning home to Pittsburgh. In addition to filmmaking\, he hosts two podcasts—Talking Business and Life (formerly Italian Impact Weekly) and The Unlikely Catholic— and serves as an assistant professor of computer and information systems at Robert Morris University. \n\n\n\nHis formative years in Pittsburgh’s Little Italy inspired him to pursue documentary projects such as Fedeltà. The film has already earned numerous festival honors\, including Best Feature Documentary at Dallas MovieFest; Best First Time Director at the 2025 Bomarzo Soulplace Film Festival; and both Best Director Debut and Best Historical Film at the 2024-25 Beyond the Screen Film Festival. \n\n\n\nFedeltà premiered in Chambersburg\, and this Lindsay screening will be Western Pennsylvania filmgoers’ first chance to watch Mancini’s work on the big screen. \n\n\n\n“The film shows that even during our worst moments\, kindness and goodness can still be found\,” says Mancini. “This is a deeply personal lesson that everyone should remember. Seeing it in a theater is a wonderful way to get people together\, looking across the aisle and seeing others—hopefully in an even better light.” \n\n\n\n\n \n \n Emerging Filmmakers Showcase FEDELTÀ September 3\, 2026 Reservation Sign Up\n \n \n X/TwitterThis field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged.Name(Required)\n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n Number of Tickets(Required)Phone Number(Required)Email(Required)\n \n Any Special Accommodations (Seating Accessibility\, etc.)?

SUMMARY:Mtn Craft Film Festival Winners Tour
DESCRIPTION:One of this region’s most unique film festivals is bringing last year’s winners to The Lindsay! \n\n\n\nThe Mtn Craft Film Festival takes place annually in West Virginia. It’s a celebration of all things Appalachia: film\, art\, and even locally brewed coffee and beer. Mtn Craft is currently on the road showing off last year’s winners at various locations throughout the region. \n\n\n\nThe only Winners Tour stop in Pennsylvania will be at The Lindsay on Thursday\, Sept. 10\, at 7:30 p.m. This program will feature six award-winning short films and a post-screening Q&A. Tickets are free\, and we recommend RSVPing in advance via the sign-up form below due to space limitations. \n\n\n\n“They are the cream of the crop\,” says festival director Ben Berry of 2025’s winners. “I think they’re a good example of Appalachian filmmaking because there’s such a variety in these films. You’ll see animation\, narrative and documentary works\, showcasing the storytelling that abounds in this region.” \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Mtn Craft Film Festival accepts films from all over Appalachia that “are meant to reach a broad audience in the entire region\,” says Berry. This six shorts screening at The Lindsay are: \n\n\n\n• The Ascent (Best Scripted Short\, 18min):  Jared’s escape into imagination blurs with the bitter reality of survival in this stark yet tender portrait of childhood\, resilience and the fragile refuge of dreams. It’s the first narrative short from Oscar-nominated documentarian Elaine McMillion Sheldon (King Coal). \n\n\n\n• Mountain Punk Arts (Best Documentary Short\, 15min): In rural Appalachia\, a few punks come together to re-establish a surprisingly familiar sense of community. Directed by Ethan Romaine. \n\n\n\n• Picture of a Lost Family (Best Student Short\, 15min): A woman visits her friend who stands frozen in time. Directed by Aram Riazi. \n\n\n\n• Ted and Toby Really Don’t Know (Best Animated Short\, 13min): Two queer (and anxious) young men get to know each other despite the oddness of their communication. Directed by Joshua White. \n\n\n\n• Capitol Limited (Best Experimental Short\, 2min): A wedding day\, a tragedy\, and an Amtrak train route are intertwined in this personal exploration of marriage and contemporary America. Directed by Pittsburgh-based filmmakers Lily Ekimian Ragheb and Ahmed T. Ragheb. \n\n\n\n• A Bottomless Reservoir of Joy (Mtn Craft Award\, 6min): A portrait of West Virginia-based nature illustrator Rosalie Haizlett. Directed by Curren Sheldon. \n\n\n\nThe 2026 Mtn Craft Film Festival will take place from Oct. 2-4 at the Robinson Grand Performing Arts Center in Clarksburg\, W.V. Join us on this enlightening and enriching journey! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nForever Young: A Bob Dylan Tribute\n\n\n\nNR | 1h 10min\n\n\n\nDirector: Len Caric\n\n\n\nStars: Joe Grushecky\, Billy Price\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nLast year\, iconic Pittsburgh musicians Joe Grushecky and Billy Price teamed up for a one-night-only show at Lawrenceville’s Thunderbird Café & Music Hall. The hook: They would exclusively be playing Bob Dylan songs. \n\n\n\nForever Young: A Bob Dylan Tribute is local filmmaker Len Caric’s documentary leading up to and capturing that magical evening in Pittsburgh’s long and storied musical history. \n\n\n\n“These are not young artists at the beginning of something—they are masters at the height of their wisdom and artistry. People need to see what great musicianship looks like\,” says Caric. \n\n\n\nHe interviews both musicians and puts their combined performing chops on glorious display. The film’s world premiere is on Aug. 30 at The Lindsay\, and its first theatrical run will be during our Documentary Series. \n\n\n\n“When do you ever get to see two living legends of your own hometown on the big screen?” posits Caric. “This is a chance to celebrate Pittsburgh’s own\, to feel proud of what this city produces and to experience music that genuinely means something.” \n\n\n\n\nDates and Showtimes for Forever Young\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nExhibition on Screen: David Hockney at the Royal Academy of Arts\n\n\n\nNR | 1h 425min\n\n\n\nDirector: Phil Grabsky\n\n\n\nStar: David Hockney\, Martin Gayford\, Tim Marlow\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nDavid Hockney\, a globally celebrated artist\, died earlier this year at age 88. The English painter “restored the human form to art\,” The New York Times declared in his obituary. \n\n\n\nThe Lindsay is honoring this late legend by bringing back Exhibition on Screen: David Hockney at the Royal Academy of Arts. Director Phil Grabsky focuses on two well-known exhibitions held in 2012 and 2016 at London’s Royal Academy of Arts. \n\n\n\nThe film offers a fresh look at many Hockney originals and in-depth interviews with the man himself. \n\n\n\nHockney’s unequivocal talent delivers a “splash of spring to make hearts soar\,” raves The Times. “This illuminating documentary portrait” immortalizes “a master in sharp focus\,” praises The Guardian. \n\n\n\n“There’s copious interview material with the artist. … Hockney comes across as an ever-enthusiastic\, always curious figure\, forever concerned with painting and how to make his marks on the canvas.” \n\n\n\n\nDates and Showtimes for David Hockney\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDeepfaking Sam Altman\n\n\n\nNR | 1h 33min\n\n\n\nDirector: Adam Bhala Lough\n\n\n\nStars: Adam Bhala Lough\, Divyendra Singh Jadoun\, Kara Swisher\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nAdam Bhala Lough found himself at a crossroads. The filmmaker’s many attempts to interview OpenAI CEO Sam Altman had failed. To save his documentary\, Lough decided to create and interview an AI facsimile of Altman. \n\n\n\nThat’s how “Sam Bot” was born and became the driving force behind Deepfaking Sam Altman. This absurd premise is both comedy gold and an avenue for bigger questions about humanity’s relationship with AI. \n\n\n\n“Give Lough credit: His film simultaneously illustrates the deficiencies of generative AI and the dangers of investing in it emotionally\, while remaining … self-amused in a distinctly human way\,” writes The New York Times. \n\n\n\nLough’s musings about whether he is actually forming a real attachment to “Sam Bot” provides the heart of this “sardonic and surprisingly sweet look at the burgeoning influence of ChatGPT\,” applauds ScreenRant. \n\n\n\nRolling Stone adds: “Deepfaking Sam Altman is a globe-trotting\, thought-provoking\, utterly surreal exploration of how far today’s AI can be pushed and whether it can ever really substitute for human ingenuity.” \n\n\n\n\nDates and Showtimes for Deepfaking Sam Altman\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn Our Nature\n\n\n\nNR | 60min\n\n\n\nDirector: James Parker\n\n\n\nStars: Hannah Bodham Blackwell\, Quilen Blackwell\, Richard Louv\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nAmerican children are averaging mere minutes outside every day and hours staring at screens. This has led to increases in obesity\, isolation and other unhealthy habits continuing into adulthood. \n\n\n\nIn Our Nature attempts to address this growing problem by showing the efforts being made to give kids information information and resources to take advantage of the great outdoors. \n\n\n\nYou’ll find out how Southside Blooms in Chicago\, Red Oak Forest School in Kentucky and Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS) in San Antonio are creating green-space access for local youths. \n\n\n\nDirector James Parker’s film “serves as a tool that reminds viewers of their place on the planet and how crucial it is that they understand and preserve the nature around them\,” compliments The Washington Informer. \n\n\n\nWe hear in the film: “The stakes are whether we want our kids and future generations to be more alive or less alive. It’s kind of that fundamental.” \n\n\n\n\nDates and Showtimes for In Our Nature\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMary Oliver: Saved by the Beauty of the World\n\n\n\nNR | 1h 31min\n\n\n\nDirector: Sasha Waters\n\n\n\nStars: Mary Oliver\, Helena Bonham Carter\, Steve Buscemi\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n“Tell me\, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?” That’s a line from Mary Oliver’s poem The Summer Day\, which was part of a collection that won the 1992 National Book Award. \n\n\n\nYou’ll learn exactly how she spent her extraordinary life after watching Mary Oliver: Saved by the Beauty of the World. The Pulitzer Prize-winning poet attained universal acclaim during her long career. \n\n\n\nFamous figures such as Stephen Colbert\, Oprah Winfrey\, Helena Bonham Carter and Steve Buscemi recite a few of Oliver’s most beloved poems. You’ll also hear from her close friends\, including filmmaker John Waters. \n\n\n\nViewers will be “moved by the film’s soft nature that mirrors Oliver’s practice and mind\,” proclaims RogerEbert.com. It “makes an affecting case for her work and gives us a vivid look at her world\,” lauds The Wall Street Journal. \n\n\n\n“It’s an entertaining bio-doc that puts due emphasis on Oliver’s writing\, in all its elegant and empathetic simplicity.” \n\n\n\n\nDates and Showtimes for Mary Oliver\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTwo Strangers Trying Not to Kill Each Other\n\n\n\nNR | 1h 40min\n\n\n\nDirectors: Manon Ouimet\, Jacob Perlmutter\n\n\n\nStars: Maggie Barrett\, Joel Meyerowitz\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nMaggie Barrett\, a struggling novelist\, and Joel Meyerowitz\, a successful photographer\, met later in life\, fell in love and married. Now in their golden years\, the couple grapples with creative fulfillment and their own mortalities. \n\n\n\nTwo Strangers Trying Not to Kill Each Other documents their ever-evolving love story to an inflection point when Joel\, 84\, is tasked with taking care of Maggie\, 75\, after she breaks her femur. \n\n\n\nDirectors Manon Ouimet and Jacob Perlmutter capture the couple’s shared joys and festering resentments during this particularly raw time. Hard truths are shared as Maggie and Joel search for collective and individual peace. \n\n\n\n“Watching the two navigate the unknown with such frankness is part of what makes this documentary engaging\,” praises Next Best Picture. It succeeds at “capturing the tiny nuances that add up to make a life\,” commends Variety. \n\n\n\n“Barrett and Meyerowitz open up their relationship honestly\, inviting curious eyes without any vanity on their part. Perlmutter and Ouimet’s observational filmmaking is attuned to capturing the nuances that make this story intriguing.” \n\n\n\nNote: The Thursday\, Sept. 24\, screening at 1 p.m. kicks off the Valley Care Foundation Aging Seniors Series at The Lindsay. Tickets for this special screening and associated event\, courtesy of the Valley Care Foundation\, are free to seniors 55 plus. Details to come! \n\n\n\n\nDates and Showtimes for Two Strangers\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA Life Illuminated\n\n\n\nNR | 1h 29min\n\n\n\nDirector: Tasha Van Zandt\n\n\n\nStar: Edith Widder\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nEdith Widder has always believed that the bottom of the ocean would be less scary if we could simply see it. Her pioneering marine bioluminescence work has enabled us to witness some of this planet’s most wondrous residents. \n\n\n\nA Life Illuminated spotlights Widder and her ongoing quest to communicate with Earth’s most mysterious creatures using the language of light. As she says while embarking on one underwater voyage\, “I never get tired of this.” \n\n\n\nDirector Tasha Van Zandt follows Widder on these descents into the ocean’s depths\, where she obtained astonishing footage of rarely seen marine life in their natural habitats. \n\n\n\n“The film serves as a notably feminist tribute to Dr. Widder as she does for marine life what Jane Goodall did for primates\,” writes POV Magazine. “A Life Illuminated builds a rousing story of persevering in the face of adversity.” \n\n\n\nIndieWire adds: “That compulsion—a genuine\, profound desire to share her findings with the world—makes for a classic\, stick-to-your ribs documentary experience about a fascinating person.” \n\n\n\n\nDates and Showtimes for A Life Illuminated\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAmerican Doctor\n\n\n\nNR | 1h 33min\n\n\n\nDirector: Poh Si Teng\n\n\n\nStars: Thaer Ahmad\, Mark Perlmutter\, Feroze Sidhwa\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThree U.S. physicians—one Jewish\, one Palestinian and one Zoroastrian—volunteer in Gaza. \n\n\n\nAmerican Doctor takes viewers into severely under-resourced hospitals and operating rooms in that region. The doctors put their expertise to the test in order to save the wounded and refuse to stay silent upon returning home. \n\n\n\n“The hospital scenes are the film’s heart\, and they have an immediacy that the interspersed footage of the doctors at home in the United States cannot match\,” writes The New York Times. \n\n\n\nThis “vital documentary” is propelled by “tremendously effective experts from different walks of life\,” applauds Collider. Every American should see “director Poh Si Teng’s unflinching new exposé\,” proclaims The Hollywood Reporter. \n\n\n\n“What makes American Doctor stand out is how it eschews the bigger picture to focus primarily on the practical. … What makes American Doctor so powerful is the way it reveals the shared humanity of physicians and patients in the face of death.” \n\n\n\n\nDates and Showtimes for American Doctor\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNR | 1h 15min\n\n\n\nDirector: Raeshem Nijhon\n\n\n\nStar: Reshma Saujani\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nMotherhood can feel impossible\, especially with social media trying to label women as either a “girl boss” or “tradwife.” Culture wars distract from the systems that make it difficult for many American mothers to feel supported. \n\n\n\nNo Country for Mothers follows Reshma Saujani\, CEO and founder of national nonprofit Moms First\, as she guides audiences through the past and present of American motherhood. \n\n\n\n“We’ve been intentionally divided and distracted through culture wars\, and mostly I think a lot by politicians\,” Saujani tells The Guardian. “I think that the only way to beat back the culture wars is to get moms to come together.” \n\n\n\nNo Country for Mothers feels like “an antidote to the isolation many mothers may be feeling and the larger cultural divides that are separating mothers\,” raves Forbes. \n\n\n\nSaujani tells The Guardian: “They know that the moment that we choose our power over their blame\, it’s over for them. This film is gasoline\, and we are the match.” \n\n\n\nNote: For the screening on Wednesday\, Sept. 23 at 6:30 p.m.\, Pittsburgh Today Live co-host Heather Abraham and YaJagoff! co-founder Rachael Rennebeck will introduce the show and lead a post-screening panel discussion.  \n\n\n\n\nDates and Showtimes for No Country for Mothers

SUMMARY:JMQ Pictures Showcase
DESCRIPTION:Local filmmaker Jameson Quinn is returning to The Lindsay with two stellar shorts and a pulse-pounding television pilot. \n\n\n\nThe Lindsay’s latest Emerging Filmmakers Showcase features three locally made projects created by Quinn’s production company\, JMQ Pictures. We will screen Sandman (14 minutes)\, about a boxer making a comeback; Empty (15 minutes)\, a detective noir; and Cornered (18 minutes)\, a TV pilot following one DEA agent’s efforts to capture a drug ring and avenge his friend’s death. \n\n\n\nThe JMQ Pictures Showcase will take place on Thursday\, Sept. 17\, at 7:30 p.m. Quinn will lead an in-person Q&A immediately following the screening. Tickets are free\, and RSVPs are recommended in advance via the below sign-up form due to space limitations. \n\n\n\n“We would love to see Western Pennsylvanians come out and see these films on the big screen\,” says Quinn. “They’ll gain a more accurate understanding of why Pittsburgh is such a great contributor to the world of cinema.” \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nQuinn spent his formative years in Brookline writing\, playing ice hockey and competing as an amateur boxer. He is now living his dream as a professional actor and filmmaker. Last year\, Quinn introduced himself to Lindsay audiences by showing the boxing drama Strange Angels. \n\n\n\nCornered was inspired by classic action-thrillers like Die Hard and The Bourne Identity. “I wanted to create a series that moves quickly and embodies dramatic action while keeping viewers invested in its characters and their emotional space\,” says Quinn. \n\n\n\nSandman\, Empty and Cornered were all filmed in the Pittsburgh area with local actors and crews. Quinn wrote and stars in all three films. He also directed Cornered and Empty. \n\n\n\n“I believe that Western Pennsylvanians should be excited to see Pittsburgh showcased and highlighted\,” says Quinn. “It’s a great feeling to bring these films back home where it all began.” \n\n\n\n\n \n \n Emerging Filmmakers Showcase JMQ Pictures Showcase Reservation Sign Up\n \n \n NameThis field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged.Name(Required)\n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n Number of Tickets(Required)Phone Number(Required)Email(Required)\n \n Any Special Accommodations (Seating Accessibility\, etc.)?
