SUMMARY:Strange Angels
DESCRIPTION:Brookline native Jameson Quinn will premiere the pilot for his new boxing drama at The Lindsay.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRSVP Here!\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nThe Lindsay’s first Emerging Filmmakers Showcase of August is a locally filmed television pilot set in Pittsburgh’s boxing community. \n\n\n\nStrange Angels is a screen adaptation of Lawrenceville native Ernest Keegan’s 2018 novel of the same name. Brookline’s Jameson Quinn directed this 39-minute project that will hopefully serve as the premiere episode for a full TV season. \n\n\n\nHis pilot will premiere at The Lindsay on Thursday\, Aug. 21\, at 7 p.m. Tickets are free\, but RSVPs are recommended in advance due to space limitations. Quinn will be on hand for a Q&A following the screening. \n\n\n\nChristina Chickis stars as Marylou Caponi\, a boxing gym owner navigating a sordid world and her complicated feelings for Dan McClain (Quinn)\, her head trainer and a former fighter. The cast also includes Jose Caraballo\, Andrew Diskin\, Christine Mancini\, Ryan Covert\, Jess Uhler\, and Eddie Holliday. \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nQuinn spent his formative years in Brookline writing\, playing ice hockey and competing as an amateur boxer. He is now living his dream as a professional actor and filmmaker. In addition to regularly appearing in regional independent projects\, Quinn also often finds work in locally filmed Hollywood fare like The Dark Knight Rises\, One Dollar and Mayor of Kingstown. \n\n\n\nKeegan graduated from Peabody High School in 1965 and joined the Air Force a year later. After finishing his military stint in 1969\, Keegan worked for Bell of Pennsylvania—now Verizon Pennsylvania—until his retirement in 2002. Keegan was an amateur boxer in the 1960s\, and his knowledge of that scene helped inspire and inform Strange Angels.

Embrace that academic spirit and enjoy a documentary (or two\, or three) at The Lindsay! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRebel With a Clause\n\n\n\nNR | 1h 26min\n\n\n\nDirector: Brandt Johnson\n\n\n\nStars: Ellen Jovin\, Brandt Johnson\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFor Ellen Jovin\, grammar isn’t a set of rules in need of policing. That’s why this “roving grammarian” started setting up public “Grammar Tables” with the express purpose of inviting anyone to ask questions and\, ideally\, inspire civil and scintillating discussions. \n\n\n\nRebel With a Clause chronicles Jovin’s experiences behind her Grammar Table in all 50 states. Director (and Jovin’s husband) Brandt Johnson follows Jovin around as she interacts with everyday folks who have equally passionate opinions about the English language. \n\n\n\nJohnson and Jovin’s documentary is “the funniest movie so far this year\,” declares The Berkshire Edge. “The action is breezy and lighthearted” while also offering “instances of surprise” for even the most diehard grammar aficionados\, writes The New York Times. \n\n\n\n“Grammar is language glue that binds us together\,” Jovin told CBC News. “While we’re talking … we get this human connection\, this sense of community\, and it just feels so joyous and sometimes even raucous.” \n\n\n\nJohnson and Jovin will join us for an in-person Q&A following the 7 p.m. Rebel With a Clause screening on Friday\, Aug. 29. \n\n\n\n\nTickets and Showtimes for Rebel With a Clause\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArt for Everybody\n\n\n\nNR | 1h 46min\n\n\n\nDirector: Miranda Yousef\n\n\n\nStar: Thomas Kinkade\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nChances are good you’ve seen a Thomas Kinkade original. You may even own a print or mug made by one of the most commercially successful (and critically reviled) artists in American history. \n\n\n\nArt for Everybody documents Kinkade’s difficult life and shows that there was more to this “Painter of Light” than anyone could’ve guessed. \n\n\n\nDirector Miranda Yousef takes viewers into Kinkade’s “vault” of previously unreleased works that his family discovered following the artist’s shocking 2012 death. There are thousands of paintings in that collection\, many of which are darker and more formally interesting than the average Kinkade pastoral. \n\n\n\n“Many fascinating threads” are explored in Yousef’s “insightful and highly entertaining documentary\,” raves Variety. Art for Everybody is a “well-structured\, meticulously researched and revealing” film\, proclaims The New York Times.  \n\n\n\nAdds RogerEbert.com: “Miranda Yousef has come up with a structurally complex and very empathetic portrait of a troubled man. … This is a fascinating documentary about a family discovering the depth and complexity of their patriarch while coming to terms with his flaws.” \n\n\n\n\nTickets and Showtimes for Art for Everybody\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSanibel\n\n\n\nNR | 1h 6min\n\n\n\nDirector: Jamie Winterstern\n\n\n\nStars: Emily Miller\, Judy Beerman\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSanibel was originally conceived as a wholesome look at seashell culture in Southwest Florida. Its two stars\, Emily Miller and Judy Beerman\, are jovial figures with deep roots in that very tourist-friendly area. \n\n\n\nSix weeks into filming\, Hurricane Ian ravaged the Florida coast—including the tiny island of Sanibel. There was no way director Jamie Winterstern’s film could continue as planned amidst so much destruction and despair. \n\n\n\n“It looked like a nuclear bomb had let off\,” Miller told WBBH-TV. “All I could do was cry and say\, ‘My beloved island!’” \n\n\n\nWinterstern’s film suddenly became an exercise in capturing a grieving community’s efforts to heal and rebuild. Miller and Beerman instantly became symbols of hope and examples of resilience. \n\n\n\n“They’re very special people\,” Winterstern told WBBH. “I think being able to give them a voice is an accomplishment of what this movie does\, and I’m proud of it.” \n\n\n\nWinterstern will participate in a virtual Q&A following the 5 p.m. Sanibel screening on Monday\, Sept. 1. \n\n\n\n\nTickets and Showtimes for Sanibel\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSingle-Use Planet\n\n\n\nNR | 57min\n\n\n\nDirector: Steve Cowan\n\n\n\nStars: Rocco Martini\, Sharon Pillar\, Lew Villotti\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe’re all taught from an early age to separate trash from recyclable materials. So then why does so much plastic still end up in our oceans? In Single-Use Planet\, director Steve Cowan attempts to uncover the political and economic factors that have resulted in plastic becoming a major aquatic pollutant. \n\n\n\n“While filming content for another project out at sea\, we found ourselves at times amidst vast gyres of ocean plastic stretching from horizon to horizon\,” Cowan tells KQED. \n\n\n\n“We knew at that point that we had to tell the story of the growing dangers of the overuse of discardable\, single-use plastics that are threatening our oceans and\, in many cases\, our health.” \n\n\n\nCowan’s investigation begins in Pennsylvania and features plenty of politicians\, scientists and concerned citizens from the Keystone State. Single-Use Planet interviews a few figures from the Pittsburgh area—including multiple Beaver residents and leaders. \n\n\n\n“Ultimately\, each person and family will make their own decisions about using plastic\,” says Cowan. “We simply hope to provide as much information as possible to inform those decisions.” \n\n\n\nLocal environmental experts and advocates will join us for an in-person panel discussion following the 2:45 p.m. Single Use-Planet screening on Saturday\, Sept. 6. \n\n\n\n\nTickets and Showtimes for Single-Use Planet\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCaregiving\n\n\n\nPG | 1h 54min\n\n\n\nDirector: Chris Durrance\n\n\n\nStars: Bradley Cooper\, Uzo Aduba\, Matthew Cauli\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEvery day\, roughly 63 million Americans serve as primary caregivers for an ill or aging loved one. Their lives are put on pause due to this immense responsibility they perform out of pure devotion—but also at great physical\, mental and financial costs.  \n\n\n\nCaregiving spotlights the daily challenges and triumphs experienced by just a few of these individuals. Director Chris Durrance’s subjects include a young father caring for his wife and son; a 14-year-old helping his father look after his ailing mother; and a young woman taking care of her dementia-stricken father. \n\n\n\nDurrance’s documentary was executive produced by Oscar nominee Bradley Cooper and narrated by Emmy winner Uzo Aduba. Both actors have served as caregivers for parents during their battles with cancer. \n\n\n\n“Caregivers are heroic people\,” says Cooper in a press release.”Their ability to focus and give all of themselves is something I stand in awe of. … It is my hope that Caregiving will provide affirmation and support for those who do this profoundly meaningful and increasingly vital work.” \n\n\n\nThe Lindsay showed a shorter Caregiving cut earlier this summer in front of a sold-out crowd. Documentary Series audiences will see the full version of this moving and powerful film. \n\n\n\nDurrance will participate in a virtual Q&A following the 7 p.m. Caregiving showing on Monday\, Sept. 8. \n\n\n\n\nTickets and Showtimes for Caregiving\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGeorgia O’Keeffe: The Brightness of Light\n\n\n\nNR | 1h 58min\n\n\n\nDirector: Paul Wagner\n\n\n\nStars: Claire Danes\, Hugh Dancy\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGeorgia O’Keeffe was affectionately known as the “Mother of American Modernism.” She lived for 98 captivating years that produced countless masterpieces and a great deal of interest in her personal life. \n\n\n\nGeorgia O’Keeffe: The Brightness of Light is a comprehensive window into O’Keeffe’s remarkable talent\, her relationship with fellow artist Alfred Stieglitz and the renowned painter’s lasting impact on an entire medium. \n\n\n\nThe film is narrated by Hannibal star Hugh Dancy\, and Emmy winner Claire Danes serves as O’Keeffe’s voice. The Brightness of Light was directed by Paul Wagner\, who won the 1985 Academy Award for Best Documentary Short as co-director of The Stone Carver. \n\n\n\nPaul and Ellen Casey Wagner\, his producing partner and wife\, were inspired to make The Brightness of Light after perusing a museum exhibit about O’Keeffe in 2018. Their goal was to make the greatest documentary about O’Keeffe in nearly half a century. \n\n\n\n“In the last years of Georgia O’Keeffe’s life\, curator Sarah Greenough of the National Gallery of Art created an exhibit including letters to and from Alfred Stieglitz\,” Paul Wagner says. “O’Keeffe had only two requests regarding the presentation. We have attempted\, in creating our film\, to adhere to the same two standards—to make it beautiful and to make it honest.” \n\n\n\nPaul and Ellen Casey Wagner will participate in a virtual Q&A following the 3 p.m. The Brightness of Light showing on Sunday\, Aug. 31. \n\n\n\n\nTickets and Showtimes for The Brightness of Light

SUMMARY:'Clemente'
DESCRIPTION:Local filmmaker David Altrogge’s documentary about The Great One is coming to The Lindsay!\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBuy Tickets Here!\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nThe Lindsay will soon be showing a locally produced documentary about arguably the greatest athlete to ever play for a Pittsburgh professional sports team. \n\n\n\nClemente will play at The Lindsay from (at least) Sept. 12-18. Duane Rieder\, founder of The Clemente Museum in Lawrenceville and a prominent local photographer\, will introduce the 4:30 p.m. Clemente screening on Sunday\, Sept. 14. \n\n\n\nDirector David Altrogge’s film spotlights Pirates legend Roberto Clemente’s amazing life\, baseball career\, and why he remains such a revered figure in Western Pennsylvania and beyond. \n\n\n\nThe film starts with Clemente’s childhood in Puerto Rico\, takes viewers through his Pirates heyday\, and immortalizes The Great One’s philanthropic legacy that was tragically exemplified by his 1972 death in a plane crash while delivering aid to Nicaragua. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThe documentary includes interviews with Clemente’s sons\, Luis and Robert Jr.; the last interview with his late wife\, Vera; multiple Pirates legends; contemporary Major League Baseball stars like Francisco Lindor and Yadier Molina; Pittsburgh-raised movie star Michael Keaton; and Rita Moreno\, an Oscar-winning actor and fellow Puerto Rican icon. \n\n\n\nAltrogge is the co-founder of locally based production company Vinegar Hill. He and Vinegar Hill co-founder Michael Barnett produced Clemente alongside a group that also includes renowned director Richard Linklater and the SpringHill Company duo of Maverick Carter and NBA superstar LeBron James. \n\n\n\nThis is the second Altrogge-directed film to play at The Lindsay. Neat: The Story of Bourbon was part of the Theater’s 2024 Documentary Series. Altrogge graciously appeared at the Theater for a Neat Q&A\, and we hope he’ll be available again to discuss making this beautiful tribute to The Great One with Lindsay patrons. \n\n\n\n“Clemente is a quintessential Pittsburgh story\,” Altrogge says. “His mission was about bringing people together. We hope this film brings people together in Pittsburgh and across the world.”

SUMMARY:'Not If I See You First'
DESCRIPTION:Check out this local screening of Pittsburgher Kenny Zimlinghaus’ new buddy comedy!\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRSVP Here!\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nThe Lindsay’s latest Emerging Filmmakers Showcase is a brand-new buddy comedy starring a prominent Pittsburgh media personality. \n\n\n\nNot If I See You First was written and directed by Illinois-based filmmaker Aaron Wertheimer. It stars Wertheimer and Jefferson Hills’ Kenny Zimlinghaus as two guys whose lives are forever changed after a chance meeting in Chicago. \n\n\n\nThis two-hander will have its Western Pennsylvania premiere at The Lindsay on Thursday\, Sept. 18\, at 7 p.m. Zimlinghaus will be on hand for an in-person Q&A following the screening. Tickets are free\, but RSVPs are recommended in advance due to space limitations. \n\n\n\nKenny (Zimlinghaus) meets Aaron (Wertheimer) during a work trip to Chicago. Aaron convinces him to extend that trip. But when Kenny’s car explodes and Aaron gets selective amnesia\, will their fledgling friendship survive? The Not If I See You First cast also includes Johanna Wertheimer\, Elizabeth Stam and Leslie Crum. \n\n\n\n\nZimlinghaus is a Long Island\, N.Y.\, native who has been living in Western Pennsylvania for the past decade. The actor and nationally touring comedian is also a radio/podcast program coordinator in Robert Morris University’s Academic Media Center. His Not If I See You First character is also a Pittsburgher\, and he wears a “pretty sweet Pittsburgh shirt” for a large portion of his screen time. \n\n\n\n“Pittsburgh has been a special place for me\, and not just since I moved here\,” Zimlinghaus says. “My wife is from here\, and I’ve learned to really fall in love with it here. So getting to know the city and its humor\, I think this film fits right into the funny\, zany and obscure things people from Pittsburgh may find amusing. I’m looking forward to the screening\, and hope I do the Steel City proud!” \n\n\n\nWertheimer is a seasoned filmmaker who has now written and directed three comedies. Fun fact: The Skokie\, Ill.\, resident’s wife and two children all appear in Not If I See You First. Another fun fact: Wertheimer’s in-laws live in Squirrel Hill\, and Mario Lemieux is his favorite hockey player. \n\n\n\n“Not If I See You First is a straight-up heartfelt comedy\, which is becoming more and more rare in indie film\,” says Wertheimer. “A big goal with the film is just for people to get lost in its absurd logic and have a good time watching it.”

Years later\, Judah returns to his homeland an exalted and wealthy Roman athlete. Unable to find his mother and sister\, and believing them dead\, he can think of nothing else than revenge. \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThe film’s cast also includes Francis X. Bushman as Roman officer Messala; Claire McDowell as Miriam\, Judah’s mother; Kathleen Key as Tirzah\, Judah’s sister; and May McAvoy as Esther\, a merchant’s daughter. \n\n\n\nThe Lindsay has been hosting Pittsburgh Silent Film Festival screenings since its inception in 2023. That year\, the Theater showed the 1920 silent horror film The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari. In 2024\, the Pittsburgh Silent Film Society brought fellow Robert Wiene film The Hands of Orlac to the Sewickley nonprofit theater. \n\n\n\nChad Hunter\, the Pittsburgh Silent Film Society’s founder\, reminds silent film aficionados that the Library of Congress added Ben-Hur to the National Film Registry in 1997 because it “had such a tremendous influence on filmmakers of the day.” \n\n\n\n“In this year’s festival\, Ben-Hur is one of just a couple titles that are rarely screened or seen anymore\,” Hunter says. “Seeing this film in a theater\, on the big screen\, with live piano accompaniment by Tyler Stoner\, is an opportunity not to be missed!”

All it took was pressing play on The Creeping Chaos to release uncontrollable mayhem. \n\n\n\nCantu co-wrote the script for Grind with Brian Bell and Brian Ceponis. Ceponis\, a local actor and co-founder of Western Pennsylvania production company RedSlate Films\, co-stars alongside a cast that also includes Kelsey Rhea\, Molly Souza and Stanton Rutledge. \n\n\n\n\nTickets for Grind\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOCT. 3 SHOWTIMES AND TICKETS \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nKick the Can\n\n\n\n11 a.m. | 1h 30min | Comedy\, Crime\n\n\n\nDirector: Jim Menza\n\n\n\nStars: Kristin Auge\, Jack Burr\, Niko Caponigro\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nKick the Can is a lighthearted crime comedy from writer-director Jim Menza. The title evokes both a classic children’s game and a renowned episode of The Twilight Zone. This Milknose Films production comes with a tantalizing tagline: “Some games\, you play for keeps.” \n\n\n\nThe film is centered around a man who sets out on a 24-hour adventure to save a woman’s life. Along the way\, he meets a plethora of chaotic characters and finds himself in consistently strange situations. \n\n\n\n\nTickets for Kick the Can\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHitman: The Slaughter\n\n\n\n12:40 p.m. | 1h 28min | Thriller\, Crime\n\n\n\nDirector: Seth Nardo\n\n\n\nStars: Ian Falcone\, Frank Ripoly\, Steve Nardo\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThis crime-thriller’s title is also a pretty good description of what’s in store for moviegoers. Director Seth Nardo’s film follows a group of dangerous individuals as they engage in … well\, the things hitmen do. \n\n\n\nNardo is a 24-year-old Ohioan making his directorial debut with Hitman: The Slaughter. Between the film’s content\, its setting and colorful characters\, a good alternate title for this film may have been Once Upon a Time in Ohio. \n\n\n\n\nTickets for Hitman: The Slaughter\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Muscle\n\n\n\n2:20 p.m. | 1h 20min | Thriller\, Crime\n\n\n\nDirector: Ryan Halasz\n\n\n\nStars: Ryan Halasz\, Stephen Caruso\, Eric Cerbo\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Muscle is another-crime thriller that would make a great double feature with Hitman: The Slaughter. Ryan Halasz wrote\, directed and stars in this film about a guy with a big heart who gets caught up in a life of crime. \n\n\n\nRon (Halasz) witnesses a murder\, which eventually leads to him discovering the truth about his father’s death. It’s far beyond what Ron could have ever imagined. He must choose revenge or forgiveness—even as he grapples with some pretty extreme violations of trust. \n\n\n\n\nTickets for The Muscle\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFrenzy Moon\n\n\n\n3:50 p.m. | 1h 21min | Horror\n\n\n\nStars: Alyssa Grace Adams\, Aaron Krygier\, Kayla Malika\n\n\n\nDirector: Gregory Lamberson\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nYou probably could’ve guessed by the title that this is an old-fashioned werewolf flick. SUMMARY:Robert Redford Classics
DESCRIPTION:The Lindsay is celebrating a Hollywood legend by showing three of his most important films. \n\n\n\nRobert Redford passed away last month at age 89. Among his many accomplishments\, Redford starred in Best Picture winners The Sting and Out of Africa; directed Best Picture winner Ordinary People; appeared in a variety of beloved films\, from Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid to All the President’s Men; co-founded the Sundance Institute and Sundance Film Festival; and received a Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2016. \n\n\n\nTo celebrate his incomparable legacy\, The Lindsay will play three Redford classics multiple times between Monday\, Oct. 6 and Thursday\, Oct. 16. Here are quick primers on The Sting\, The Way We Were and Out of Africa: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Sting\n\n\n\nPG | 2h 9min | Crime\, Drama\, Comedy\n\n\n\nDirector: George Roy Hill\n\n\n\nStars: Robert Redford\, Paul Newman\, Robert Shaw\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Sting reunites the Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid trio of director George Roy Hill and stars Paul Newman and Robert Redford. Redford plays con man Johnny Hooker\, who is out for revenge against mobster Doyle Lonnegan (Robert Shaw) for murdering his best friend. He and master con artist Henry Gondorff (Newman) construct an elaborate ruse to take Lonnegan for all he’s worth. \n\n\n\n“The Sting is pure gold\, the kind of movie that dreams of sophisticated entertainment are made on\,” declares New York Magazine. The film’s central con “makes for some of the funniest\, most outrageous\, suspenseful and surprising moments” in cinema history\, raves the Los Angeles Times. \n\n\n\n“It’s a triumph of quality Hollywood craftsmanship. … The Sting overflows with warmth and nostalgia. Newman\, Redford and Shaw are in top form.” \n\n\n\n\nTickets and Showtimes for The Sting\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Way We Were\n\n\n\nPG | 1h 58min | Romance\, Drama\n\n\n\nDirector: Sydney Pollack\n\n\n\nStar: Robert Redford\, Barbara Streisand\, Bradford Dillman\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThe Way We Were is one of seven collaborations between Redford and director Syndey Pollack. It stars Barbara Streisand as Katie Morosky\, a politically active young woman who strikes up a relationship with Hubbell Gardiner (Redford). Despite their differences\, they marry and desperately try to keep their love alive. \n\n\n\nThis searing romantic drama “stays afloat because of the chemistry between Barbara Streisand and Robert Redford\,” praises The New Yorker. \n\n\n\nPollack’s film\, featuring Oscar-winning Marvin Hamlisch music\, “says things that no one else has dared to say in a major Hollywood movie\,” The Hollywood Reporter proclaimed in 1973. The always game Redford exudes “icy\, dangerous charm.” \n\n\n\n\nTickets and Showtimes for The Way We Were\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOut of Africa\n\n\n\nPG | 1h 58min | Epic\, Drama\, Romance\n\n\n\nDirector: Sydney Pollack\n\n\n\nStar: Robert Redford\, Meryl Streep\, Klaus Maria Brandauer\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nOut of Africa won seven Oscars at the 1986 Academy Awards\, including Best Picture\, Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay. Based on the life and memoirs of Danish author Isak Dinesen\, this epic drama set in early 19th-century Kenya follows the blossoming romance between a wealthy baroness (Meryl Streep) and rugged big-game hunter (Redford). \n\n\n\n“Never has a country been more lovingly photographed” than Kenya in director Sydney Pollack’s “vibrant\, lush movie\,” applauds the New York Daily News. Pollack’s multi-Oscar winner is “an old-fashioned\, intelligent\, thoughtful love story\,” Roger Ebert wrote in 1985. \n\n\n\n“Out of Africa is a great movie to look at\, breathtakingly filmed on location. It is a movie with the courage to be about complex\, sweeping emotions\, and to use the star power of its actors without apology.” \n\n\n\n\nTickets and Showtimes for Out of Africa

SUMMARY:Alfred Hitchcock Classics
DESCRIPTION:There’s a chill in the air\, and The Lindsay is leaning into spooky season vibes with two films from the Master of Suspense himself. \n\n\n\nAlfred Hitchcock is a Hollywood legend with a filmography that includes all-timers like 1940’s Rebecca\, 1954’s Rear Window\, 1959’s North by Northwest\, and 1963’s The Birds. His films earned 46 Academy Award nominations\, including five Best Director nods. \n\n\n\nThe Lindsay is playing the Hitchcock classics Vertigo (1958) and Psycho (1960) multiple times between Friday\, Oct. 17 and Thursday\, Oct. 30. Here’s everything you need to know about these gripping psychological thrillers: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVertigo\n\n\n\nPG | 2h 8min | Thriller\, Mystery\, Romance\n\n\n\nDirector: Alfred Hitchcock\n\n\n\nStars: James Stewart\, Kim Novak\, Barbara Bel Geddes\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVertigo stars Indiana\, Pa.\, native James Stewart as John “Scottie” Ferguson\, a San Francisco detective with a crippling fear of heights. An old friend hires Scottie to trail his wife\, Madeleine (Kim Novak)\, on suspicions of strange behavior. Scottie becomes increasingly obsessed with Madeleine over the course of his investigaton. \n\n\n\n“Alfred Hitchcock tops his own fabulous record for suspense with Vertigo\,” declares The Hollywood Reporter. “To watch this movie as it should be seen is too primal an experience to miss\,” The Washington Post wrote of viewing Vertigo in a movie theater. \n\n\n\n“Do yourself an aesthetic favor: Take the plunge. You’ll love the fall all the way down.” \n\n\n\n\nTickets and Showtimes for Vertigo\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPsycho\n\n\n\nR | 1h 49min | Horror\, Thriller\, Drama\n\n\n\nDirector: Alfred Hitchcock\n\n\n\nStar: Anthony Perkins\, Janet Leigh\, Vera Miles\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nPsycho remains the gold standard for cinematic horror. Marion Crane (Janet Leigh) is a secretary on the run with stolen money. She checks into a motel run by Norman Bates (Anthony Perkins)\, a seemingly innocuous guy harboring a twisted secret. \n\n\n\nHitchcock’s most famous film is also his “most brilliantly directed shocker\,” proclaims the Los Angeles Times. Nobody thought The Guardian was exaggerating in 2010 when it called Psycho “the best horror film of all time.” \n\n\n\n“After half a century of terror\, Psycho is still ensuring that no one feels safe in the shower.” \n\n\n\n\nTickets and Showtimes for Psycho

SUMMARY:Emerging Filmmakers Showcase: 'BATSH*T'
DESCRIPTION:The Lindsay is celebrating Halloween this year with an Emerging Filmmakers Showcase that’s chock-full of locally made frights and delights. \n\n\n\nBatsh*t is an indie horror-comedy that was inspired by genre favorites like Evil Dead\, Beetlejuice and A Nightmare on Elm Street. It follows an alcoholic who accidentally takes a hallucinatory drug and enters a nightmarish new world. \n\n\n\nThe Lindsay will be showing Batsh*t on Thursday\, Oct. 30\, at 7 p.m. This screening will be immediately followed by an in-person Q&A with director and co-writer Todd Wolfson\, star Jerry Pietrala and editor Karl O’Janpa. The event is free\, and The Lindsay recommends that all attendees use the form below to RSVP in advance due to space limitations. \n\n\n\nWolfson\, a Pittsburgh native and founder of production company Just Buried Entertainment\, is making his feature directorial debut with Batsh*t. The film stars Pietrala as Felix Darby\, a lost soul on a mind-altering journey. Along the way\, Felix encounters oddities such as a friend talking in tongues\, his roommate turning into an 8-bit character\, a talking killer cherry pie\, being haunted by his own ghost and much more. \n\n\n\nWolfson has been working on BatSh*t since 2018. He co-wrote the script with David Ogrodowski\, a veteran local filmmaker and actor who also appears in the film. The largely Western Pennsylvania-based cast also includes Tiffany Kemp\, Mikhail Tot\, Edward Pfeifer\, Nexus Lyons\, Samantha Ainsworth\, Brian Ceponis and Ben Dietels. \n\n\n\nBatsh*t is a mostly live-action film that also contains wild sequences involving both 2D and 3D animation\, stop-motion effects\, claymation—and even puppets! Be prepared for what Wolfson describes as a “very zany and original” cinematic experience. \n\n\n\n“This is a very important film to me\,” Wolfson says. “It’s jam-packed with a lot of Pittsburgh’s most talented actors. Batsh*t is a wildly entertaining dark comedy with a fantasy twist\, and it’s extremely independent to the core!” \n\n\n\n\n \n \n Emerging Filmmakers Showcase BATSH*T October 30\, 2025 Reservation Sign Up\n \n \n EmailThis field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged.Name(Required)\n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n Number of Tickets(Required)Phone Number(Required)Email(Required)\n \n Any Special Accommodations (Seating Accessibility\, etc.)?\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nClick Me!

SUMMARY:Emerging Filmmakers Showcase: 'MAXX: SON OF THE DAMNED'
DESCRIPTION:The Lindsay’s only November Emerging Filmmakers Showcase is the perfect way to close out the Halloween season! \n\n\n\nMaxx: Son of the Damned is a locally made fantasy saga from Pittsburgh-based 3.B.T. Productions. This dark coming-of-age tale is centered around Maxx (Caleb Bartholow)\, the first natural-born warlock in centuries\, and the evil forces who want to use his powers for mass destruction. \n\n\n\nAn early version of this film will screen at The Lindsay on Thursday\, Nov. 6\, at 7 p.m. This showing will be immediately followed by a filmmaker Q&A. The event is free\, and The Lindsay recommends that all attendees use the form below to RSVP in advance due to space limitations. \n\n\n\nMaxx: Son of the Damned was written and directed by 3.B.T. co-founders Xayne Allen and Delaney Hathaway. Following his 21st birthday\, Maxx discovers that Eve (Amy Lyn Elliott)\, the first woman\, and her followers want to use his magical abilities to bring about the apocalypse. With Maxx’s haunting past catching up with him\, will he choose to save humanity or destroy it? \n\n\n\n“This film is the perfect way to close out spooky season\,” says Allen. “It’s dark\, thrilling and packed with that eerie magic that lingers long after the credits roll.” \n\n\n\nHathaway and fellow 3.B.T. co-founder Charlie Gray both appear in Maxx: Son of the Damned. The largely local cast also includes Christina Chickis\, Stephanie Swift\, Brian Ceponis\, Naomi Terrell and Erika Krenn. \n\n\n\n“Fans of indie cinema should be thrilled to join us for this special first look\,” says Allen. “They’ll get to experience the film before it’s complete and play a part in shaping its final cut alongside the cast and crew.” \n\n\n\n\n \n \n Emerging Filmmakers Showcase MAXX: SON OF THE DAMNED November 6\, 2025 Reservation Sign Up\n \n \n LinkedInThis field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged.Name(Required)\n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n Number of Tickets(Required)Phone Number(Required)Email(Required)\n \n Any Special Accommodations (Seating Accessibility\, etc.)?\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nClick Me!

SUMMARY:Center for Hope Food Drive
DESCRIPTION:Support a local food pantry this holiday season!\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis year\, The Lindsay is collecting nonperishables for the food pantry at The Center for Hope\, an Ambridge nonprofit that has been meeting growing demands. Through New Year’s Eve\, The Lindsay will gather food donations. \n\n\n\n“Theater patrons have been immensely generous with the food drives we’ve held in the past\,” says Lindsay CEO Carolina Pais-Barreto Thor. “Center for Hope has been a long-time partner of the Theater\, and we want to step up during this time of scarcity.” \n\n\n\nThe Center for Hope welcomes donations of any non-expired\, nonperishable foods. Director Sue Otto suggests: cereal\, macaroni and cheese\, ramen noodles\, canned tuna and chicken\, and saltine or oyster crackers for soup. However\, they would be grateful for “pretty much anything off the grocery shelves.” \n\n\n\nContributions can be dropped off when you come to watch films at the Theater during its operating hours through the week and on weekends\, which are 30 minutes before the day’s shows begin through when the last show is seated. Alternatively\, bring a few cans and boxes when you watch Nuremberg this weekend—or later\, when you visit us to check out Wicked: For Good\, Zootopia 2\, Holiday Classics or any films in our lineup. \n\n\n\nDemand at the Center is “through the roof\,” with 1\,100 people served in October alone\, says Otto\, director since 2007. She has seen many new faces at the Center this fall\, including military\, federal workers and senior citizens. \n\n\n\nNot only are some out of work\, “it’s also at a time when people are getting slammed with higher prices on everything. They’re crying\, desperate on the phone and I tell them\, ‘Hey\, we’re here for you.’ We’re open to everyone.” \n\n\n\nIn addition to the food pantry\, the Center supplies Hungry Kids Snack Bags to children in the food pantry and families requesting the extra help through Ambridge Area School District\, providing 3\,600 snack bags in October to help fill young bellies over the weekend\, when school meals are not available.

We also showed Flow\, which went on to win Best Animated Feature at the Academy Awards. \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nTickets are now on sale for all individual Three Rivers screenings\, as well as full festival and other passes. You can purchase tickets online via Film Pittsburgh’s website\, and at The Lindsay on the day of each screening. (In Irish\, with subtitles)\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nAontas received Best Feature and Best Director honors at the 2025 Manchester Film Festival. This international crime thriller follows three women who rob an Irish Credit Union. Their heist goes horribly wrong\, and everyone involved can only reflect on the choices and events that drove these women to their fates. \n\n\n\n“Aontas features some terrific performances from stalwarts Carrie Crowley and Brid Brennan\,” raves Screen International. Director Damian McCann made “a thoroughly gripping and exceptional film\,” declares Film Threat. \n\n\n\n“Aontas is a rare gem—a thriller that leaves you on the edge of your seat as the revelations spool out\, but also a masterwork of film construction and craft.” \n\n\n\n\nTickets and Showtime for Aontas\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMistura\n\n\n\nNR | 1h 37min | Drama \n\n\n\nDirector: Ricardo de Montreuil \n\n\n\nStars: Barbara Mori\, Cesar Ballumbrosio\, Christian Meier \n\n\n\nFriday\, Nov. 14 @ 7 P.M. (In Spanish\, with subtitles)\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nMistura is a festival circuit favorite\, having already been awarded the Jury Award for Best Narrative Feature at the Durango Independent Film Festival\, Sarasota Film Festival and Stony Brook Film Festival. Set in 1960s Peru\, it chronicles a formerly privileged woman’s culinary journey following a change in her societal status. \n\n\n\nDirector Ricardo de Montreuil gives audiences “a delicious look at Peru\,” praises We Live Entertainment. Mistura is “a vivid tale of self-discovery and change\,” applauds Loud and Clear Reviews. \n\n\n\n“De Montreuil paints this transformation against the beautiful backdrop of Peru\, with breathtaking cinematography that captures every detail. … These visuals are more than just beautiful; they feel alive\, showcasing Peru in a way that feels both intimate and grand.” \n\n\n\n\nTickets and Showtime for Mistura\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Fisherman\n\n\n\nNR | 1h 48min | Comedy\, Fantasy \n\n\n\nDirector: Zoey Martinson \n\n\n\nStars: Ricky Adelayitar\, Endurance Dedzo\, William Lamptey \n\n\n\nSaturday\, Nov. 15 @ 4 P.M.\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThe Fisherman is a Ghanaian film that recently won the Grand Jury Award for Best Feature at the Cordillera International Film Festival. This heartwarming and surreal romp finds a retired fisherman embarking on an unexpected adventure with a talking fish. \n\n\n\nDirector Zoey Martinson’s film “has a lovely musical opening” and “some first-rate snappy dialogue\,” lauds RogerEbert.com. “The dialogue is delightfully wacky\,” and “the earnestness of the story will have you chuckling and smirking in no time\,” proclaims Sinema Focus. \n\n\n\n“Ultimately\, The Fisherman feels first like a recognition\, then a reconciliation between past and present for its protagonist and his family. The ending is more emotionally satisfying because it honors the core of this ethos.”  \n\n\n\n\nTickets and Showtime for The Fisherman\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTransplant\n\n\n\nNR | 1h 33min | Drama\, Thriller \n\n\n\nDirector: Jason Park \n\n\n\nStars: Bill Camp\, Eric Nam\, Laurence Leboeuf \n\n\n\nSaturday\, Nov. 15 @ 7 P.M.\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nTransplant is filmmaker Jason Park’s feature directorial debut. It stars Eric Nam as Jonah\, a highly motivated surgical resident. Jonah is pushed to his limits after landing a coveted spot training under Dr. Edward Harmon (Bill Camp)\, a legendary heart transplant surgeon who’s obsessed with protecting his perfect reputation. \n\n\n\n“Medical students everywhere will likely feel vindicated at how their vocations’ unique struggles are rendered with uncomfortable accuracy” in Transplant\, commends the Chicago Reader. Park’s medical thriller is “a meet cute between Whiplash and Grey’s Anatomy\,” writes RogerEbert.com. \n\n\n\n“The film lands the former’s nose-to-the-grindstone protege\, but graciously lacks the melodrama of the latter. … Park’s crowning achievement in Transplant is his ability to craft a diverse\, but balanced tone throughout the story. “ \n\n\n\n\nTickets and Showtime for Transplant\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFor Worse\n\n\n\nNR | 1h 30min | Romantic Comedy \n\n\n\nDirector: Amy Landecker \n\n\n\nStars: Amy Landecker\, Bradley Whitford\, Nico Hiraga \n\n\n\nSunday\, Nov. 16 @ 3 P.M.\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nFor Worse is a new rom com from writer-director Amy Landecker\, who is mostly known for her acting work in projects such as the Coen Brothers’ dramedy A Serious Man and the Prime Video series Transparent. Landecker also stars in For Worse as a newly sober divorcee who starts a new fling with a younger man. \n\n\n\nHer film also stars Bradley Whitford (The West Wing)\, and “their chemistry feels immediate\, loose with warmth and crackling with possibility\,” declares The Hollywood Reporter. “Amy Landecker’s thoughtful and deeply feminine debut celebrates new beginnings at any age\,” raves Variety. \n\n\n\n“Landecker’s comedy carves its own meaningful spot among recent releases about mature women seeking new directions. … The heroine of it all is Landecker herself\, who plays Lauren with gusto as a woman who increasingly owns up to her well-earned age and enduring sexuality.” \n\n\n\n\nTickets and Showtime for For Worse\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Tallest Dwarf\n\n\n\nNR | 1h 32min | Documentary \n\n\n\nDirector: Julie Wyman \n\n\n\nSunday\, Nov. 16 @ 6 P.M.\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThe Three Rivers Film Festival is screening The Tallest Dwarf ahead of its PBS Independent Lens debut on April 6\, 2026. This riveting documentary charts filmmaker Julie Wyman’s quest to find her place within the little people (LP) community at a moment when dwarf identity is poised to radically change. \n\n\n\nWyman crafted an “extremely compelling” examination of how dwarfism has been viewed and how it’s perceived today\, applauds Cultress. The Tallest Dwarf “shows the power of body acceptance” in any community\, proclaims Forbes. \n\n\n\n“In the film\, Wyman explores the diverse experiences of LPs through both in-depth interviews and movement-based workshops captured on film. The Tallest Dwarf asks the viewer to consider important questions\, like\, ‘What if the culture created pathways for LPs to love and accept their bodies?'” \n\n\n\n\nTickets and Showtime for The Tallest Dwarf

SUMMARY:'Caregiving' with Ryan Shazier Fund
DESCRIPTION:Join former Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier for an exclusive ‘Caregiving’ screening!\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBuy Tickets Here!\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nThe Lindsay has partnered with WQED and the Ryan Shazier Fund for Spinal Rehabilitation to bring back Caregiving during National Family Caregivers Month. \n\n\n\nThe PBS documentary Caregiving returns to The Lindsay on Wednesday\, Nov. 19\, at 7 p.m. We will show the full-length version of director Chris Durrance’s inspirational film. \n\n\n\nThis event will also include a 6:30 p.m. reception in The Lindsay’s Community Room\, sponsored by the Richard King Mellon Foundation. Shazier\, a former Steelers linebacker\, will attend the reception and introduce the screening. Tickets are available for $8.75. \n\n\n\nThis Caregiving screening was conceived as an evening of warmth\, camaraderie and recognition for all caregivers. Shazier and members of his organization will be on hand to thank caregivers for their amazing work and dedication. \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nCaregiving was produced by Bradley Cooper\, who also appears in the film\, and narrated by Emmy winner Uzo Aduba. Both acclaimed actors have served as caregivers for a sick parent. Caregiving highlights the many challenges and triumphs that those caring for a sick parent or loved one experience every day. \n\n\n\nSome of the caregivers featured in this film include a young father caring for both his wife and son; a 14-year-old who\, along with his father\, shares the role of caregiver for his mom; and a young woman looking after her dementia-stricken father. \n\n\n\nShazier is an Ohio State University graduate who the Steelers picked 15th overall in the 2014 NFL Draft. He made two Pro Bowls with the Steelers\, but his career was abruptly ended after suffering a spinal contusion during a game in December 2017. Shazier officially retired from the NFL in September 2020. \n\n\n\nAfter 130 spinal rehabilitation sessions\, Shazier not only gained back the strength to walk\, but he was able to dance with his wife at their wedding. He founded the Shazier Fund in November 2020. Shazier currently serves as the president and board chairman for this nonprofit dedicated to ensuring SCI (spinal cord injury) patients have access to the treatments they need.

SUMMARY:The Lindsay's Inaugural Favorite Patron
DESCRIPTION:Barb Pace has more than earned the honor of being The Lindsay’s first-ever Favorite Patron!\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nTo recognize patron loyalty and enthusiasm\, The Lindsay has launched its annual Favorite Patron Award\, presenting the first honor to Barbara Pace from Ross Township. She will receive an unlimited year-long pass for two to the Theater. \n\n\n\n“In this season of gratitude\, we wanted to show appreciation to our patrons\,” says Lindsay CEO Carolina Pais-Barreto Thor. “Senior citizens are a core demographic of the Theater\, and we are humbled by the passion our guests share for this nonprofit.” \n\n\n\nBarb\, 84\, a longtime guest and inaugural Favorite Patron\, remains upbeat despite 27 surgeries over her lifetime and is fervent about The Lindsay\, her theater of choice. Because she doesn’t drive\, Barb relies on her good friends to bring her to The Lindsay\, sometimes spearheading groups of nearly a dozen ladies scattered across the region. \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nFriends joke that they get more daily emails from Barb than any business. These emails\, punctuated with her trademark zeal and humor\, include her thoughts on films and the cinema experience. Most recently\, Barb and friends visited The Lindsay to watch Wicked: For Good—which happened to be the sequel to the very first film she ever saw\, The Wizard of Oz.  \n\n\n\nShe highlights The Lindsay as “walker friendly\,” and is a big fan of Wednesday’s open caption options. After her Nuremberg open caption screening\, two dozen friends and the Theater received her emailed thoughts about the film and experience. \n\n\n\n“When our team considered instituting this award\, Barb was the obvious choice\,” says Thor. “Her encouragement\, tight hugs and warm presence always enliven our days.” \n\n\n\nFor Barb\, a film must be followed by critique and laughter. Movies\, music and humor “are my elixir of life\,” says Barb\, a mother\, grandmother\, former family caregiver and anti-pollution activist. “Like some men are sports fanatics\, I love movies and music.”

SUMMARY:'Zootopia 2' Sensory Friendly Screening
DESCRIPTION:Enjoy Disney’s latest animated adventure in a low-stress environment.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBuy Tickets Here!\n\n\n\n\n\nJudy Hopps and Nick Wilde are back on the big screen this holiday season. We want to make sure everyone can watch them crack the case! \n\n\n\nThat’s why we planned a sensory friendly Zootopia 2 screening for Saturday\, Dec. 6\, at 10 a.m. Tickets for this showing are on sale for our discounted rate of $8.75. \n\n\n\nZootopia 2\, which starts playing at The Lindsay on Nov. 26\, is the long-awaited sequel to Disney’s 2016 animated adventure about an extremely motivated bunny who teams up with a wily fox to solve a world-altering case. \n\n\n\nThe sequel sends detectives Judy Hopps (voiced by Ginnifer Goodwin) and Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman) on the twisting trail of a mysterious reptile who arrives in Zootopia and turns the animal metropolis upside down. To crack the case\, Judy and Nick must go undercover to unexpected new parts of town\, where their growing partnership is tested like never before. \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThe Lindsay has been proudly holding sensory friendly screenings since 2017. These screenings provide an option for families\, children\, and adults impacted by autism and other special needs to watch films together in a low-stress environment. \n\n\n\nWe lower the film’s volume\, keep on dim house lights\, and have a door open to restrooms and the lobby throughout the film. Trailers are eliminated to reduce the necessary “sit time.” Staffing levels are also increased to allow a personal\, unhurried cinematic experience for everyone.  \n\n\n\nThe Lindsay usually offers sensory friendly screenings of every family-friendly film we play. Recent examples include sensory friendly screenings of Paddington in Peru\, Snow White\, A Minecraft Movie\, Lilo & Stitch and How to Train Your Dragon.

SUMMARY:Pittsburgh Zoo Celebrates 'Zootopia 2'
DESCRIPTION:Enjoy a free chat with two Pittsburgh Zoo & Aquarium educators—and an animal friend!\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Lindsay is partnering with the Pittsburgh Zoo & Aquarium for a special program that will get kids even more excited to watch Zootopia 2. \n\n\n\nJessica Ries\, a Pittsburgh Zoo interpretation manager\, and Heather Berkey\, the zoo’s volunteer services manager\, will join us in The Lindsay’s Community Room on Sunday\, Dec. 14\, at 1:45 p.m. \n\n\n\nThis free educational opportunity will start with a Q&A geared around Zootopia 2\, the sequel to Disney’s 2016 animated adventure that starts playing at The Lindsay on Wednesday\, Nov. 26. \n\n\n\nRies and Berkey will discuss their work and how zoo animals are both similar and different from their on-screen Zootopia counterparts. They’ll then introduce an “animal friend” direct from the Pittsburgh Zoo. This will be a rare chance for children to get up close and personal with a furry\, feathery or even scaly critter. \n\n\n\n\n“Movies like Zootopia and the zoo both have the goal of connecting people with animals they’re not familiar with\,” says Ries. “You can connect with wildlife in a way that’s fun\, and you can relate to the characters.” \n\n\n\nZootopia 2 sends detectives Judy Hopps (voiced by Ginnifer Goodwin) and Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman) on the twisting trail of a mysterious reptile who arrives in Zootopia and turns the animal metropolis upside down. To crack the case\, Judy and Nick must go undercover to unexpected new parts of town\, where their growing partnership is tested like never before. \n\n\n\nThe Lindsay is also hosting a Zootopia 2 sensory friendly screening on Saturday\, Dec. 6\, at 10 a.m. Tickets to this showing are all discounted to $8.75 each. This year\, The Lindsay is also collecting nonperishables for Center for Hope\, an Ambridge food pantry that has been meeting growing demands. The food drive started last week\, in advance of Thanksgiving\, and will run through New Year’s Eve. \n\n\n\nWarm up your sleigh\, put on something cozy and head over to The Lindsay for a heaping helping of holiday cheer! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIt’s a Wonderful Life\n\n\n\nPG | 2h 10min | Drama\, Fantasy\, Romance\n\n\n\nDirector: Frank Capra\n\n\n\nStars: James Stewart\, Donna Reed\, Lionel Barrymore\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWho doesn’t sometimes feel like George Bailey (James Stewart) in It’s a Wonderful Life? It’s Christmas Eve\, and George is contemplating whether his life has amounted to anything. That’s when an angel appears to show George exactly what the world would look like without him. \n\n\n\n“It’s one of those ageless movies\, like Casablanca\, that improves with age … (and) can be viewed an indefinite number of times\,” late critic Roger Ebert declared. “Stewart touches the thespic peak of his career\,” and director Frank Capra injects “his sure-footed feeling for true dramatic impact\,” raves Variety. \n\n\n\nAdds BBC: “It’s a Wonderful Life achieves a fine balancing act between pathos and feel-good that is delivered by an outstanding cast. Even the minor parts are populated by some of the finest character actors\, and it produces a movie of timeless quality and relevance.” \n\n\n\n\nTickets and Showtimes for It’s a Wonderful Life\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nElf\n\n\n\nPG | 1h 37min | Comedy\n\n\n\nDirector: Jon Favreau\n\n\n\nStars: Will Ferrell\, James Caan\, Zooey Deschanel\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nElf stars Will Ferrell as Buddy\, a human raised by elves in the North Pole. A fully grown Buddy travels to New York City on a quest to meet his biological father (James Caan). Buddy’s infectious optimism inspires everyone he meets to embrace the holiday spirit. \n\n\n\nDirector Jon Favreau proved he “has the magic touch” with this “genuinely sweet” 21st-century Christmas classic\, praises the Los Angeles Times. “Will Ferrell is hilarious in this delightful elf-out-of-water holiday confection\,” declares The Hollywood Reporter. \n\n\n\n“Elf  is at the very least a breezily entertaining\, perfectly cast family treat. Actor-director Jon Favreau\, working from a colorful script by David Berenbaum\, has delivered just the right combination of naughty and nice.” \n\n\n\n\nTickets and Showtimes for Elf\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNational Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation\n\n\n\nPG-13 | 1h 37min | Comedy \n\n\n\nDirector: Jeremiah S. Chechick\n\n\n\nStars: Chevy Chase\, Bevery D’Angelo\, Juliette Lewis\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAnyone familiar with the Vacation franchise would’ve expected a Griswold family holiday celebration to play out exactly like it does in National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. This time\, Clark Griswold (Chevy Chase) doesn’t even have to leave town for things to go horribly wrong. \n\n\n\nThe third Vacation film is “the most madcap Christmas comedy ever\,” proclaims Time Out. Christmas Vacation is “side-splitting funny” and contains “moments of great physical comedy by Chase\,” applauds IGN. \n\n\n\n“This movie has always been a favorite when it comes to the nuttiness of Christmas and family\, and it’s still a riot.” \n\n\n\n\nTickets and Showtimes for Christmas Vacation\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHow the Grinch Stole Christmas (25th anniversary)\n\n\n\nPG | 1h 44min | Comedy\, Family\n\n\n\nDirector: Ron Howard\n\n\n\nStars: Jim Carrey\, Taylor Momsen\, Kelley\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIt has somehow been 25 years since we all learned How the Grinch Stole Christmas—in live action! This adaptation of the classic Dr. Seuss story stars Jim Carrey as the green grump who enlists his dog\, Max (Kelley)\, to ruin Whoville’s holiday festivities. \n\n\n\n“This is Jim Carrey’s show\, and he just about wraps the movie around his spindly green finger\,” commends Entertainment Weekly. “With The Grinch\, Carrey may well have realized the most entertaining\, and in the end\, almost moving live-action children’s characters put on screen\,” lauds Empire. \n\n\n\n“In the end\, this is Jim Carrey’s movie. His performance is quite simply a masterpiece of controlled sentiment\, perching brilliantly on the cusp of pathos and dangerous anger. … It’s a bravura performance loaded with energy\, wit and delighted malice.” \n\n\n\n\nTickets and Showtimes for How the Grinch Stole Christmas\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nChristmas in Connecticut (80th anniversary)\n\n\n\nNR | 1h 41min | Comedy\, Romance\n\n\n\nDirector: Peter Godfrey\n\n\n\nStars: Barbara Stanwyck\, Dennis Morgan\, Sydney Greenstreet\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nChristmas in Connecticut is a lovely holiday comedy starring Barbara Stanwyck as Elizabeth Lane\, a food writer who has been lying about having an idyllic life. Hijinks ensue and sparks fly when Elizabeth’s boss and a returning war hero invite themselves to her fictitious farm for Christmas. \n\n\n\nDirector Peter Godfrey’s 1945 rom com is full of “subversive screwball complications\,” praises The Guardian. It’s a “thoroughly wacky” film that has become “a bit of a hidden gem in the Christmas canon\,” writes The A.V. Club. \n\n\n\n“Coming off Stanwyck’s villainous\, Oscar-nominated turn in Double Indemnity\, Christmas in Connecticut presented one of the lightest\, gentlest roles in her career. … There’s so much about Christmas in Connecticut that feels newly relevant to our current era.” \n\n\n\nNote: Wendy Whittick\, the Pittsburgh Classic Movie Club’s president\, will introduce the 7 p.m. Christmas in Connecticut screening on Friday\, Dec. 19.  \n\n\n\n\nTickets and Showtimes for Christmas in Connecticut

SUMMARY:Emerging Filmmaker Showcase: 'Water Rites'
DESCRIPTION:The Lindsay’s first Emerging Filmmakers Showcase of 2026 is an independently made thriller featuring a few horror legends and plenty of local talent. \n\n\n\nWater Rites was written and directed by McMurray native Dean Jacobs. It follows a young couple\, played by Jacobs and Katy Bentz (Life is Strange)\, who uncover unsettling secrets while spending the summer in a secluded lakefront community. \n\n\n\nJacobs’ followup to 2023’s The Trip will have its East Coast premiere at The Lindsay on Thursday\, Jan. 8\, at 7:15 p.m. This event is free\, though we recommend that all attendees RSVP via the below sign-up form due to space limitations. The screening will be immediately followed by a filmmaker Q&A. \n\n\n\n“I’m thrilled to come home and premiere my second feature film\,” says Jacobs. “As long as I’m making movies\, I’ll always screen them in Pittsburgh first—for family\, friends and the city that made me who I am.” \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBentz and Jacobs play Katie and James\, a young couple embarking on a summer getaway to a remote town nestled high in the California mountains. However\, they may never be able to escape this idyllic retreat after unwittingly discovering this community’s disturbing secrets. \n\n\n\nThe film’s supporting cast includes Dee Wallace\, who played Elliott’s mother in E.T. and is also known for roles in The Stepford Wives and Cujo; Michael Berryman\, a long-time character actor who has appeared in classics such as One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest and The Hills Have Eyes; and Lynn Lowry\, a horror icon who many will recognize from George Romero’s The Crazies and David Cronenberg’s Shivers. \n\n\n\nWhile Water Rites was filmed in California\, Jacobs is a Western Pennsylvania product through and through. The Peters Township High School and Indiana University of Pennsylvania graduate performed at regional theaters and worked on several locally made films before moving to Los Angeles in 2012. \n\n\n\nMost of Water Rites‘ crew hails from the Pittsburgh area\, including director of photography Ethan Leisie. Jacobs knew he needed this region’s plethora of skilled entertainment professionals to level up as a filmmaker. \n\n\n\n“With this film\, I really wanted to raise the bar\,” Jacobs says. “My first feature was shot on an extremely low budget. So going into this project\, I knew I wanted every aspect to be bigger and better. And I think we achieved that.” \n\n\n\nUPDATE: This event is now at capacity! SUMMARY:Emerging Filmmakers Showcase: 'Wire'
DESCRIPTION:The Lindsay’s second Emerging Filmmakers Showcase this month is a locally filmed crime thriller made by two University of Pittsburgh film students. \n\n\n\nWire was written and directed by Pitt seniors Max Christopher and Nate Drew. The duo intended to make a short film\, but ended up producing a feature-length story about a troubled loner who becomes obsessed with solving a mysterious woman’s murder. \n\n\n\nTheir directorial debut will play at The Lindsay on Thursday\, Jan. 15\, at 7 p.m. This event is free\, but RSVPs are requested via the below sign-up form due to space limitations. The screening will be immediately followed by a Q&A with Christopher\, Drew\, and stars Erik Smith and Gabby Hernandez. \n\n\n\n“Wire has been one of the most creatively fulfilling experiences of my life\,” says Christopher. “Shot entirely in Pittsburgh\, the film highlights every aspect of the city\, from the streets of the North Shore to the overlook on Mt. Washington.” \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSmith stars as Devlin\, an aimless private investigator who spends every day on a mental high-wire act. Devlin makes a series of calls on his 24th birthday in a desperate effort to make connections. “Monica” (Hernandez) answers\, and a bond begins to form—at least\, for Devlin. \n\n\n\nDuring one of their phone conversations\, Devlin hears a scream and a scuffle before the line goes dead. He decides to take control and embark on a dangerous investigation to find “Monica” and save her. Is he simply misguided\, or is there just enough time for him to become the man he wants to be? \n\n\n\n“Wire drops you right into dark\, grimy Pittsburgh\, a perfect stage for our first murder mystery\,” says Drew. “Wire blends the styles of Nightcrawler\, The Batman and Memento with Pittsburgh’s skyline\, character and streets. It explores the problems that can arise from the modern media onslaught.” \n\n\n\nChristopher and Drew met during their freshmen years at Pitt. Christopher is a North Huntingdon\, Pa.\, native studying film and business\, while Drew hails from Philadelphia and is majoring in film production and history. \n\n\n\n They’re both part of 7to8 Production & Distribution\, a locally based outfit that was founded in 2023 to help student filmmakers bring their scripts to life. Christopher is 7to8’s senior director of brand management and marketing research\, while Drew is the production company’s senior director of tech operations and asset management. \n\n\n\nWire is a culmination of Christopher and Drew’s undergraduate experiences\, having worked on it since they were freshmen. It also marks the arrival of two promising young Pittsburgh filmmakers. \n\n\n\n“Wire is a truly independent work\, made on less than a shoestring budget by mostly students—all from Pittsburgh\,” says Christopher. “Seeing Wire on the big screen means supporting the up-and-coming filmmakers\, actors and artists of Pittsburgh.” \n\n\n\nHello\, we are sorry but this event is now sold out! SUMMARY:Emerging Filmmakers Showcase: 'I: Scream—A Minty Musical'
DESCRIPTION:The Lindsay’s final Emerging Filmmakers Showcase in January is a deliciously fun musical made by a local filmmaking power couple. \n\n\n\nI: Scream—A Minty Musical was directed by Aleen Isley and written by Isley with her husband\, Steve Rudzinski. The film\, which was partially shot in Sewickley\, follows a scientist’s desperate efforts to stop living ice cream from devouring everything in sight. \n\n\n\nIsley and Rudzinski’s latest cinematic treat will play at The Lindsay on Thursday\, Jan. 22\, at 7 p.m. It will be proceeded by a selection of trailers and music videos celebrating the 15th anniversary of their production company\, Silver Spotlight Films. The screening will be immediately followed by a filmmaker Q&A. This event is free\, though we recommend RSVPing via the below sign-up form due to space limitations. \n\n\n\n“What sets I: Scream apart from other locally made horror comedies is its musical format\,” says Isley. “It’s sure to get your toes tapping and leave a long-lasting ear worm when you leave the theater.” \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nI: Scream features six original songs written by Isley and composed by Mike Trebilcock. They help tell the story of Charlie (B. Barnabei)\, a scientist who’s hopelessly in love with their childhood friend\, Logainne (Marie Taylor). \n\n\n\nOne night\, some experimental\, DNA-altering chemicals fall into a mint chocolate chip treat\, causing it to gain sentience. “Minty” has one desire: eat everything it can. It’s up to Charlie\, their friend Sean (Alex Hazen) and Reggie the retired ice cream purveyor (David Dietz) to save Logainne and end Minty’s reign of terror. \n\n\n\nIsley filmed I: Scream during summer 2025 throughout this region with a largely Western Pennsylvania-based cast. Audiences may recognize Pittsburgh-adjacent businesses such as Technique by Toni Dance Studio\, Scoops Ice Cream in Sewickley and the Riverside Drive In Theatre in Vandergrift. \n\n\n\n“Our town may be known for its sports teams\, but it also boasts a cultural smelting of the arts\,” Isley says. “I: Scream is another new work presented by a home-grown Pittsburgh director who could really use your support.” \n\n\n\nIsley and Rudzinski have made 15-plus films together—mostly in the Pittsburgh area—since 2011. A few have previously screened at The Lindsay\, including the CarousHELL trilogy and last year’s Curtains for Christmas. \n\n\n\nWith I: Scream\, Isley combined her filmmaking experience and musical theater background to create a truly original horror-comedy. \n\n\n\n“Our city has hosted cult classic musicals such as The Rocky Horror Picture Show for decades\,” she says. “It’s time for a minty fresh new favorite.” \n\n\n\n\n \n \n Emerging Filmmakers Showcase I:SCREAM- A MINTY MUSICAL January 22\, 2026 Reservation Sign Up\n \n \n NameThis field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged.Name(Required)\n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n Number of Tickets(Required)Phone Number(Required)Email(Required)\n \n Any Special Accommodations (Seating Accessibility\, etc.)?

SUMMARY:Oscars Talk: Film Critics to Gather at The Lindsay; Cinephiles Invited
DESCRIPTION:Join the Oscars buzz on Sunday\, Feb. 15\, when noted film critics debate the ins and outs of the 2026 Academy Awards at The Lindsay Theater and Cultural Center. \n\n\n\nAmanda Waltz\, a local journalist and former Pittsburgh City Paper arts & entertainment editor\, will once again moderate a wide-ranging conversation and Q&A with a panel comprising Pittsburgh Film Critics Association members Lindsey Bahr (Associated Press)\, Sean Collier (Shady Ave Magazine) and Megan McLachlan (The Contending). Josh Axelrod\, The Lindsay’s Director of Communications and an active PFCA member\, will also participate in this discussion. \n\n\n\nThis free\, non-ticketed event will take place in The Lindsay’s Community Room on Sunday\, Feb. 15\, at 2 p.m. These professional critics and journalists will provide their thoughts on this year’s Oscars race\, films that seem to be over- or underperforming with voters\, their ideal Oscars scenarios and much more. \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nAudience members will have the opportunity to ask questions and engage in conversation with some of this region’s most prominent film aficionados. \n\n\n\nLindsey Bahr has been an Associated Press film writer and critic since 2014. This Pittsburgh native is a regular at Hollywood’s glitziest awards shows. Bahr covered the 2025 Oscars live from Los Angeles’ Dolby Theatre. She plans to be there for this year’s ceremony as well. \n\n\n\nSean Collier is the editor-in-chief of Shady Ave Magazine. He spent 15 years with Pittsburgh Magazine\, most recently serving as its managing editor and chief film critic. He’s also a stand-up comic\, co-founder of Vigilance Theater Group\, co-host of The Number One Movie in America podcast\, and a regular on WDVE and Pittsburgh Today Live. \n\n\n\nMegan McLachlan\, a former Awards Daily contributor\, recently co-founded the awards advocacy site The Contending. Her work also has appeared in Buzzfeed\, Cosmopolitan\, The Cut\, Paste\, Thrillist\, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and The Washington Post. \n\n\n\nThe Pittsburgh Film Critics Association\, formed in 2023 by 15 Western Pennsylvania-based critics\, announced its second annual film awards earlier this year. Their Best Picture prize went to Sinners\, writer-director Ryan Coogler’s Southern vampire thriller that was recently nominated for a record-breaking 16 Academy Awards. \n\n\n\nTalking with these critics might prove helpful for anyone planning to enter The Lindsay’s annual Oscars Contest. The film buff who most accurately predicts the highest number of winners—matching the Academy’s Best Picture—will earn a non-transferable pass for free\, unlimited movies for the rest of 2026! This contest just launched and will extend through Saturday\, March 14\, at 8 p.m. \n\n\n\nThe Lindsay will continue showing this year’s Oscar nominees throughout awards season. We have already played most of the Best Picture nominees\, and we plan to run all 15 Oscar-nominated short films in the near future.

SUMMARY:Sewickley Valley Historical Society presents: 'The American Revolution'
DESCRIPTION:Watch a shorter version of Ken Burns’ riveting new PBS docuseries on the big screen!\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBuy Tickets Here!\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Lindsay is partnering with the Sewickley Valley Historical Society to put Ken Burns’ latest docuseries on the big screen. \n\n\n\nWe’re showing a 45-minute version of The American Revolution\, Burns’ critically acclaimed PBS series about the war for American independence\, on Thursday\, Feb. 26\, at 7 p.m. Tickets are now on sale for $8.75 each. \n\n\n\nThis screening will be followed by a virtual Q&A with Dr. Holly Mayer\, a professor emerita of history at Duquesne University and author of multiple books about colonial America. \n\n\n\nThe American Revolution examines how America’s founding turned the world upside-down. SUMMARY:Rob Reiner Film Festival
DESCRIPTION:Rob Reiner was a Hollywood icon who produced more than 50 years of beloved film and television work. \n\n\n\nReiner\, the son of fellow entertainment legend Carl Reiner\, launched his own acting and writing career in the 1960s. He started directing feature films in the 1980s and spent the next 20 years making cherished classics such as This is Spinal Tap\, Stand by Me\, The Princess Bride\, When Harry Met Sally …\, Misery and A Few Good Men. The last Reiner-directed release before his tragic death was Spinal Tap II: The End Continues. \n\n\n\nThe Lindsay is honoring Reiner by playing five of these treasured favorites from Friday\, March 13\, through Thursday\, March 19. Tickets can be purchased online or at The Lindsay’s box office. You can help us celebrate Reiner’s incomparable legacy by watching some of his finest films on the big screen. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis is Spinal Tap\n\n\n\nR | 1h 22min | Mockumentary\, Music\n\n\n\nDirector: Rob Reiner\n\n\n\nStars: Michael McKean\, Christopher Guest\, Harry Shearer\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThis is Spinal Tap literally invented an entire genre of filmmaking. A journalist (played by Reiner) goes on tour with English rock band Spinal Tap and chronicles the group’s many highs and lows. Their star is fading\, and these rockers try just about everything to keep the music going. \n\n\n\nReiner’s first theatrical film “has a big laugh in almost every frame\,” praises The Guardian. It’s clear that This is Spinal Tap is “a parody of life on the rock-tour circuit\, made by people who both know of what they speak\, and care for it\,” applauds USA Today. \n\n\n\n“Rob Reiner’s This is Spinal Tap introduces a brand-new genre in Hollywood—the rockumentary spoof—and does it so well that some people might not get the joke. … It’s that proximity of fact to fiction that turns this lightweight affair into a heavy-metal hoot.” \n\n\n\n\nTickets and Showtimes for This is Spinal Tap\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhen Harry Met Sally …\n\n\n\nR | 1h 36min | Romantic Comedy\n\n\n\nDirector: Rob Reiner\n\n\n\nStar: Meg Ryan\, Billy Crystal\, Carrie Fisher\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nWhen Harry Met Sally … is still widely regarded as the greatest rom com ever made. Harry (Billy Crystal) and Sally (Meg Ryan) set out to prove that men and women can\, in fact\, be friends. They remain close and\, unknowingly\, develop feelings for each other that stretch the boundaries of their relationship. \n\n\n\n“Rob Reiner directs … with evident sympathy for both main characters\,” lauds Sight & Sound. This film topped Rolling Stone‘s Greatest Romantic Comedies of All Time list\, largely thanks to the “one-of-a-kind alchemy” between Crystal and Ryan. \n\n\n\n“Chances are good that when you hear the phrase ‘rom com\,’ Rob Reiner’s movie was the first title you thought of. …  It is the one rom com to rule them all\, a perfect distillation of the form. We’ll always have what they’re having.” \n\n\n\n\nTickets and Showtimes for When Harry Met Sally …\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMisery\n\n\n\nR | 1h 47min | Drama\, Thriller\n\n\n\nDirector: Rob Reiner\n\n\n\nStar: Kathy Bates\, James Caan\, Richard Farnsworth\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nMisery star Kathy Bates won a Best Actress Oscar for her performance as Annie Wilkes\, a literary obsessive who rescues famed novelist Paul Sheldon (James Caan) following a car crash. Sheldon quickly realizes that his No. 1 fan wants more from him than just an autograph. \n\n\n\n“Bates has a field day with her role\, creating a quirky\, memorable object of hate\,” commends Variety. “Popular moviemaking—elegantly economical\, artlessly artful—doesn’t get much better than this\,” declares Time Magazine. \n\n\n\n“Bates’ performance is simply spectacular. She can accelerate from simpering girlishness to looming monstrosity with head-spinning speed. … The actors are supported by the best kind of writerly craft and directorial technique\, the kind that refuses to call attention to itself.” \n\n\n\n\nTickets and Showtimes for Misery\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA Few Good Men\n\n\n\nR | 2h 18min | Drama\, Thriller\n\n\n\nDirector: Rob Reiner\n\n\n\nStar: Tom Cruise\, Jack Nicholson\, Demi Moore\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nA Few Good Men is an enthralling legal thriller directed by Reiner and written by Aaron Sorkin\, who adapted his own 1989 play. JAG attorney Daniel Kaffee (Tom Cruise) is charged with investigating a fellow Marine’s death. He meets quite a bit of resistance\, especially from ornery Col. Nathan Jessep (Jack Nicholson). \n\n\n\nThis Best Picture nominee is a “thrillingly effective crowd pleaser\,” writes Entertainment Weekly. “The fact that A Few Good Men delivers the goods as well as it does is a tribute to Reiner’s savvy theatrical instincts\, and to a strong cast\,” proclaims Newsweek. \n\n\n\n“Reiner has mounted a crackling screen version of Sorkin’s play: it’s impeccably produced\, vigorously acted and delivers the emotional fireworks expected of a courtroom showdown. … The movie accomplishes its task with military efficiency.” \n\n\n\n\nTickets and Showtimes for A Few Good Men\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSpinal Tap II: The End Continues\n\n\n\nR | 1h 23min | Mockumentary\, Music\n\n\n\nDirector: Rob Reiner\n\n\n\nStar: Michael McKean\, Christopher Guest\, Harry Shearer\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nSpinal Tap II: The End Continues was the last Reiner-directed film released before his tragic death late last year. The band reunites following a 15-year break for one finale concert. Reiner’s film features cameos from musical legends such as Paul McCartney\, Elton John\, Paul Shaffer and Garth Brooks. \n\n\n\nThis highly anticipated sequel is “a warm\, comfortable\, appealingly gentle and subtle comedy\,” praises RogerEbert.com. Spinal Tap II is “a legacy sequel worthy of this band’s legacy\,” raves Consequence. \n\n\n\n“Rob Reiner\, Christopher Guest\, Michael McKean and Harry Shearer reunite for a joyful\, music-filled ride. … It stands out as a deeply enjoyable viewing experience\, and a singular one: It’s a movie about older men looking back at their lives and the relationships that have defined them.” \n\n\n\n\nTickets and Showtimes for Spinal Tap II
