Visit us from Aug. 29-Sept. 11 to soak up a wealth of information on art\, ecology\, language\, health care and much more. \n\n\n\nArt enthusiasts will definitely want to check out Georgia O’Keeffe: The Brightness of Light and the Thomas Kinkade reexamination Art for Everybody. Sanibel explores the devastating effects of natural disasters\, while Single-Use Planet enlists Beaver residents to investigate a manmade environmental calamity. \n\n\n\nRebel With a Clause is a lighthearted experiment in sewing divisions through bringing out our inner grammar nerds. Caregiving is a moving snapshot of the many\, many Americans facing the daunting task of caring for a sick or aging loved one. \n\n\n\nTickets for these exhilarating and thought-provoking documentaries—plus a few showtimes also featuring filmmaker Q&As—are now available on our website. Embrace that academic spirit and enjoy a documentary (or two\, or three) at The Lindsay! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRebel With a Clause\n\n\n\nNR | 1h 26min\n\n\n\nDirector: Brandt Johnson\n\n\n\nStars: Ellen Jovin\, Brandt Johnson\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFor Ellen Jovin\, grammar isn’t a set of rules in need of policing. That’s why this “roving grammarian” started setting up public “Grammar Tables” with the express purpose of inviting anyone to ask questions and\, ideally\, inspire civil and scintillating discussions. \n\n\n\nRebel With a Clause chronicles Jovin’s experiences behind her Grammar Table in all 50 states. Director (and Jovin’s husband) Brandt Johnson follows Jovin around as she interacts with everyday folks who have equally passionate opinions about the English language. \n\n\n\nJohnson and Jovin’s documentary is “the funniest movie so far this year\,” declares The Berkshire Edge. “The action is breezy and lighthearted” while also offering “instances of surprise” for even the most diehard grammar aficionados\, writes The New York Times. \n\n\n\n“Grammar is language glue that binds us together\,” Jovin told CBC News. “While we’re talking … we get this human connection\, this sense of community\, and it just feels so joyous and sometimes even raucous.” \n\n\n\nJohnson and Jovin will join us for an in-person Q&A following the 7 p.m. Rebel With a Clause screening on Friday\, Aug. 29. \n\n\n\n\nTickets and Showtimes for Rebel With a Clause\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArt for Everybody\n\n\n\nNR | 1h 46min\n\n\n\nDirector: Miranda Yousef\n\n\n\nStar: Thomas Kinkade\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nChances are good you’ve seen a Thomas Kinkade original. You may even own a print or mug made by one of the most commercially successful (and critically reviled) artists in American history. \n\n\n\nArt for Everybody documents Kinkade’s difficult life and shows that there was more to this “Painter of Light” than anyone could’ve guessed. \n\n\n\nDirector Miranda Yousef takes viewers into Kinkade’s “vault” of previously unreleased works that his family discovered following the artist’s shocking 2012 death. There are thousands of paintings in that collection\, many of which are darker and more formally interesting than the average Kinkade pastoral. \n\n\n\n“Many fascinating threads” are explored in Yousef’s “insightful and highly entertaining documentary\,” raves Variety. Art for Everybody is a “well-structured\, meticulously researched and revealing” film\, proclaims The New York Times.  \n\n\n\nAdds RogerEbert.com: “Miranda Yousef has come up with a structurally complex and very empathetic portrait of a troubled man. … This is a fascinating documentary about a family discovering the depth and complexity of their patriarch while coming to terms with his flaws.” \n\n\n\n\nTickets and Showtimes for Art for Everybody\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSanibel\n\n\n\nNR | 1h 6min\n\n\n\nDirector: Jamie Winterstern\n\n\n\nStars: Emily Miller\, Judy Beerman\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSanibel was originally conceived as a wholesome look at seashell culture in Southwest Florida. Its two stars\, Emily Miller and Judy Beerman\, are jovial figures with deep roots in that very tourist-friendly area. \n\n\n\nSix weeks into filming\, Hurricane Ian ravaged the Florida coast—including the tiny island of Sanibel. There was no way director Jamie Winterstern’s film could continue as planned amidst so much destruction and despair. \n\n\n\n“It looked like a nuclear bomb had let off\,” Miller told WBBH-TV. “All I could do was cry and say\, ‘My beloved island!’” \n\n\n\nWinterstern’s film suddenly became an exercise in capturing a grieving community’s efforts to heal and rebuild. Miller and Beerman instantly became symbols of hope and examples of resilience. \n\n\n\n“They’re very special people\,” Winterstern told WBBH. “I think being able to give them a voice is an accomplishment of what this movie does\, and I’m proud of it.” \n\n\n\nWinterstern will participate in a virtual Q&A following the 5 p.m. Sanibel screening on Monday\, Sept. 1. \n\n\n\n\nTickets and Showtimes for Sanibel\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSingle-Use Planet\n\n\n\nNR | 57min\n\n\n\nDirector: Steve Cowan\n\n\n\nStars: Rocco Martini\, Sharon Pillar\, Lew Villotti\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe’re all taught from an early age to separate trash from recyclable materials. So then why does so much plastic still end up in our oceans? In Single-Use Planet\, director Steve Cowan attempts to uncover the political and economic factors that have resulted in plastic becoming a major aquatic pollutant. \n\n\n\n“While filming content for another project out at sea\, we found ourselves at times amidst vast gyres of ocean plastic stretching from horizon to horizon\,” Cowan tells KQED. \n\n\n\n“We knew at that point that we had to tell the story of the growing dangers of the overuse of discardable\, single-use plastics that are threatening our oceans and\, in many cases\, our health.” \n\n\n\nCowan’s investigation begins in Pennsylvania and features plenty of politicians\, scientists and concerned citizens from the Keystone State. Single-Use Planet interviews a few figures from the Pittsburgh area—including multiple Beaver residents and leaders. \n\n\n\n“Ultimately\, each person and family will make their own decisions about using plastic\,” says Cowan. “We simply hope to provide as much information as possible to inform those decisions.” \n\n\n\nLocal environmental experts and advocates will join us for an in-person panel discussion following the 2:45 p.m. Single Use-Planet screening on Saturday\, Sept. 6. \n\n\n\n\nTickets and Showtimes for Single-Use Planet\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCaregiving\n\n\n\nPG | 1h 54min\n\n\n\nDirector: Chris Durrance\n\n\n\nStars: Bradley Cooper\, Uzo Aduba\, Matthew Cauli\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEvery day\, roughly 63 million Americans serve as primary caregivers for an ill or aging loved one. Their lives are put on pause due to this immense responsibility they perform out of pure devotion—but also at great physical\, mental and financial costs.  \n\n\n\nCaregiving spotlights the daily challenges and triumphs experienced by just a few of these individuals. Director Chris Durrance’s subjects include a young father caring for his wife and son; a 14-year-old helping his father look after his ailing mother; and a young woman taking care of her dementia-stricken father. \n\n\n\nDurrance’s documentary was executive produced by Oscar nominee Bradley Cooper and narrated by Emmy winner Uzo Aduba. Both actors have served as caregivers for parents during their battles with cancer. \n\n\n\n“Caregivers are heroic people\,” says Cooper in a press release.”Their ability to focus and give all of themselves is something I stand in awe of. … It is my hope that Caregiving will provide affirmation and support for those who do this profoundly meaningful and increasingly vital work.” \n\n\n\nThe Lindsay showed a shorter Caregiving cut earlier this summer in front of a sold-out crowd. Documentary Series audiences will see the full version of this moving and powerful film. \n\n\n\nDurrance will participate in a virtual Q&A following the 7 p.m. Caregiving showing on Monday\, Sept. 8. \n\n\n\n\nTickets and Showtimes for Caregiving\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGeorgia O’Keeffe: The Brightness of Light\n\n\n\nNR | 1h 58min\n\n\n\nDirector: Paul Wagner\n\n\n\nStars: Claire Danes\, Hugh Dancy\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGeorgia O’Keeffe was affectionately known as the “Mother of American Modernism.” She lived for 98 captivating years that produced countless masterpieces and a great deal of interest in her personal life. \n\n\n\nGeorgia O’Keeffe: The Brightness of Light is a comprehensive window into O’Keeffe’s remarkable talent\, her relationship with fellow artist Alfred Stieglitz and the renowned painter’s lasting impact on an entire medium. \n\n\n\nThe film is narrated by Hannibal star Hugh Dancy\, and Emmy winner Claire Danes serves as O’Keeffe’s voice. The Brightness of Light was directed by Paul Wagner\, who won the 1985 Academy Award for Best Documentary Short as co-director of The Stone Carver. \n\n\n\nPaul and Ellen Casey Wagner\, his producing partner and wife\, were inspired to make The Brightness of Light after perusing a museum exhibit about O’Keeffe in 2018. Their goal was to make the greatest documentary about O’Keeffe in nearly half a century. \n\n\n\n“In the last years of Georgia O’Keeffe’s life\, curator Sarah Greenough of the National Gallery of Art created an exhibit including letters to and from Alfred Stieglitz\,” Paul Wagner says. “O’Keeffe had only two requests regarding the presentation. We have attempted\, in creating our film\, to adhere to the same two standards—to make it beautiful and to make it honest.” \n\n\n\nPaul and Ellen Casey Wagner will participate in a virtual Q&A following the 3 p.m. The Brightness of Light showing on Sunday\, Aug. 31. \n\n\n\n\nTickets and Showtimes for The Brightness of Light

Quinn will be on hand for a Q&A following the screening. \n\n\n\nChristina Chickis stars as Marylou Caponi\, a boxing gym owner navigating a sordid world and her complicated feelings for Dan McClain (Quinn)\, her head trainer and a former fighter. SUMMARY:'Validity'
DESCRIPTION:The Lindsay’s third Emerging Filmmakers Showcase of July is a thought-provoking medical drama.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRSVP Here!\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nThe Lindsay’s third Emerging Filmmakers Showcase this month is a sneak peak at a fascinating new drama about medical ethics. \n\n\n\nValidity was written and directed by Pittsburgh-based artists Kate Vargish and Randy Kovitz\, respectively. Their film\, inspired by true events\, follows a hypothermia researcher struggling with the morally tricky notion of using potentially life-saving data that was obtained from a terrible source. \n\n\n\nKovitz’s feature directorial debut will screen at The Lindsay on Thursday\, July 31\, at 7 p.m. Tickets are free\, but RSVPs are recommended in advance. \n\n\n\nAmy Marsalis stars as Dr. Sidney Randall\, a researcher who stumbles across invaluable data that was gathered during experiments at long-defunct Nazi death camps. Dr. Randall recruits a team to help her navigate the cutthroat world of health-ethics debates and (hopefully) earn the medical establishment’s approval to validate her findings. \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThe main cast also includes Kovitz\, Dominique Brock\, Daniel Klein\, Lisa Ann Goldsmith and Ken Bolden. \n\n\n\nKovitz is an actor\, writer\, musician\, producer and award-winning filmmaker. His acting credits range from Broadway and regional theater to TV and feature films. He also teaches acting for the camera at the Carnegie Mellon University School of Drama while also directing\, producing and editing the school’s acting and musical theater showcase video material. Kovitz has also worked as a fight director and stunt coordinator and performer—most notably\, as Raul Julia’s fencing double in 1991’s The Addams Family big-screen adaptation. \n\n\n\nVargish is a writer and producer with an MFA in dramatic writing from Carnegie Mellon University. She has produced several independent web series and short films in the Pittsburgh area\, as well as working on projects in Seattle and Los Angeles. Vargish has also produced film work for Pitt Stages\, CMU\, 1Hood Media and Ryse Professional Wrestling.

SUMMARY:The Filmworks of Max Cianci
DESCRIPTION:Local filmmaker Max Cianci will screen a selection of his narrative shorts and commercial work.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRSVP Here!\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Lindsay’s second Emerging Filmmakers Showcase of July shines the spotlight on one of Pittsburgh’s most talented independent filmmakers. Max Cianci is a Hermitage\, Pa.\, native who has been living and working in Pittsburgh since 2014. The Point Park University alumnus has plenty of experience directing both narrative and commercial shorts. Cianci has plans for many projects down the pipeline—and he’s giving Lindsay patrons a taste of what’s to come. The Filmworks of Max Cianci will exclusively screen at The Lindsay on Thursday\, July 17\, at 7 p.m. This event is free\, but RSVPs are recommended. The evening will include a few Cianci-directed commercials\, three narrative short films\, a proof-of-concept short\, and an in-person Q&A with Cianci. \n\n\n\n\n\nCianci will unveil his proof of concept short film\, Tiny Toe. This is a short that he intends to make into a larger project. It follows a hunter who discovers an unusual creature in one of his traps. His hope is to create something that stands amongst the great lineage of creature and monster filmmaking here in Pittsburgh. \n\n\n\nThis event will also be the rare chance to see two other Cianci shorts on the big screen: 2020’s Loopy: A Quarantine Short Film\, co-directed by and starring Cianci\, is about a man investigating a seemingly abandoned building; and 2021’s The Sale\, about two thieves who get more than they bargained for during a looting run. Loopy was selected for over twenty film festivals during its run\, including the National Film Festival for Talented Youth (NFFTY). The Sale received the Audience Choice Award at Pittsburgh Short’s Thriller Chiller screening. \n\n\n\nHe will also screen Crypt\, a 48 Hour Film Project production that won Best Cinematography\, Best Actress\, and Audience Choice. Crypt follows a woman who must escape after she wakes up during the process of being mummified. Cianci and his team created this film completely over the course of a single weekend.

SUMMARY:'Little Rich Lives'
DESCRIPTION:The Lindsay’s latest Emerging Filmmakers Showcase is a dramedy about friendship and identity.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRSVP Here!\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nThe Lindsay’s next Emerging Filmmakers Showcase is a locally shot dramedy with big ideas. \n\n\n\nLittle Rich Lives hails from Squirrel Hill-based filmmaker Eli Zazu. This 50-minute feature follows two best friends with opposing dispositions on a journey of self-discovery over one particularly eventful night. \n\n\n\nZazu’s film will premiere at The Lindsay on Monday\, July 14\, at 7 p.m. Tickets are free\, but RSVPs are recommended. Though it’s not required\, Zazu would love if all attendees dressed in formal attire. The film will be followed by an in-person Q&A with Zazu\, stars Kain Davis and McKenna Howell\, director of photography Steven Croner\, and first assistant director Sophia Beigi. \n\n\n\nDavis stars as Richie Hilton\, a privileged but insecure aspiring real estate professional. Richie’s best friend\, Tanner (Robert Starzynski)\, is more playful and grounded. Tanner is generally amused by Richie’s behavior\, but his erratic tendencies have increasingly become a source of exasperation. \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThe main cast also includes Howell\, David Ogrodowski\, Alyssa Wenzel and Mya Favata. Ogrodowski\, a prolific Pittsburgh actor\, also produced Zazu’s feature directorial debut. \n\n\n\nZazu has been directing\, writing and editing films for the last eight years. The Milwaukee native moved to Pittsburgh in 2022 and quickly began churning out short films like Purple and 80 Grand. Zazu finds purpose in connecting with people and working closely with actors to bring his stories to life.

Anyone walking through the Green Street Parking Lot—located directly beside The Lindsay—on Friday\, June 27 will get to marvel at and take photos with a variety of exotic cars. \n\n\n\nPittsburgh Cars ‘N’ Coffee is giving automobile aficionados the rare chance to get up close with an Ariel Atom\, Ferrari 458 Italia\, McLaren 750S Spider\, Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera and more vintage vehicles. \n\n\n\nF1: The Movie stars Brad Pitt as an older driver who is coaxed out of retirement to mentor a young hotshot. The film was directed directed by Top Gun: Maverick‘s Joseph Kosinski\, produced by F1 legend Lewis Hamilton and was filmed during real F1 Grand Prix weekends. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPittsburgh Cars ‘N’ Coffee was founded in 2010 and has since grown into Western Pennsylvania’s premier exotic and modern performance automotive enthusiast group. The group meets biweekly at Generoasta Coffee & Cafe in Warrendale and organizes multiple shows and charity events throughout the year. \n\n\n\n“Pittsburgh Cars ‘N’ Coffee is thrilled for the premier of the new F1 movie!” says Clifford Laschon\, the group’s founder and president. “Many of our members are huge Formula 1 fans and the involvement of many of the current F1 drivers\, including Lewis Hamilton as a producer\, means that this should be an exciting and realistic film. \n\n\n\n“We are honored to team up with The Lindsay Theater\, which is a wonderful venue in the heart of Sewickley. We are also happy to be bringing out a selection of privately owned exotic vehicles for the public to view on display during the movie.” \n\n\n\nNote: The Green Street Parking Lot is shutting down at 1 p.m. on June 27 for the first Night Mart of 2025. At that point\, the lot will only be accessible to approved vendors and the Pittsburgh Cars ‘N’ Coffee members whose vehicles are on display.

SUMMARY:'Caregiving'
DESCRIPTION:Bradley Cooper produced this film about the joys and struggles of life as a full-time caregiver.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRSVP Here!\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Lindsay\, WQED and Comfort Keepers are partnering to show a new PBS documentary about the triumphs and challenges of being a caregiver. \n\n\n\nCaregiving spotlights the stories of everyday folks—both paid and unpaid—as they navigate the rewarding and exhausting work inherent in caring for ill or aging loved ones. It was produced by Oscar nominee Bradley Cooper and narrated by Emmy winner Uzo Aduba\, who both served as caregivers for a sick parent. \n\n\n\nThe Lindsay is showing Caregiving on Thursday\, June 26\, at 7 p.m. The 30-minute screening will be preceded by a reception in the Theater’s Community Room from 6-7 p.m. and followed by a Q&A with local experts in caregiving and at-home care. \n\n\n\nThis event is free\, but RSVPs are required. It is being co-sponsored by Comfort Keepers\, an organization providing in-home care to communities across Western Pennsylvania\, and WQED\, Pittsburgh’s PBS affiliate that also recently collaborated with The Lindsay on the public premiere of the documentary Steel Links. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nCaregiving largely focuses on the experiences of six family and professional caregivers. The featured caregivers include Matthew\, a young father caring for both his wife and son; Jacob\, a 14-year-old who\, along with his father\, shares the role of caregiver for his mom; Tracy\, a young woman looking after her dementia-stricken father; and Zulma\, a paid home health aide with a family of her own. \n\n\n\n“Making this film has been an inspiring and humbling experience\,” says Chris Durrance\, the film’s director and senior producer. “We have come to appreciate that every family has a care story and we hope that this film inspires viewers to share their own\, building new communities of care that will bring us all closer together.” \n\n\n\nThose care stories extend to Hollywood stars Cooper (Silver Linings Playbook) and Aduba (Orange is the New Black). The film was partially inspired by Cooper’s experiences taking care of his late father\, who had lung cancer. “Their ability to focus and give all of themselves is something that I stand in awe of\,” Cooper says during Caregiving in regards to his fellow caregivers. \n\n\n\nAduba played a similar role for her late mother\, who died in 2020 after a 495-day battle with pancreatic cancer. “I belong to the caregiving community\,” she told USA Today. She hopes that Caregiving serves as “a reminder that every single one of us is touched by the need for care.”

SUMMARY:Summer of Timeless Classics
DESCRIPTION:The Lindsay is punctuating this blockbuster season with a lineup of Timeless Classics! We’re providing moviegoers with a wide selection of beloved films spanning decades of cinematic history. \n\n\n\nRevisit one of Hollywood’s most epic romances with Casablanca. Get acquainted with Frank Capra’s directorial brilliance by checking out Arsenic and Old Lace and It Happened One Night.  Participate in The Lindsay’s cherished summer tradition of Cinema Paradiso. \n\n\n\nYou can also celebrate 70 years of Rebel Without a Cause\, 60 years of The Sound of Music\, 40 years of The Goonies and (almost) 30 years of The Birdcage with us this summer. \n\n\n\nBetween these seven Timeless Classics and Hollywood’s latest fare\, it’s going to be one heck of a summer at The Lindsay! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCasablanca\n\n\n\nPG | 1h 42min | Drama\, Romance\n\n\n\nDirector: Michael Curtiz\n\n\n\nStars: Humphrey Bogart\, Ingrid Bergman\, Paul Henreid\n\n\n\nSUNDAY\, JUNE 22\, AT 1 P.M. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThere has arguably never been a more epic romance committed to celluloid than the one between Rick Blaine (Humphrey Bogart) and Ilsa Lund (Ingrid Bergman) in 1942’s Casablanca. Their grand courtship finished in first place on Variety’s ranking of the 50 greatest romantic movies ever made. \n\n\n\nDirector Michael Curtiz’s film is an “exceptionally well-directed and well-played picture\,” raves The Los Angeles Times. More than 80 years later\, Casablanca is still a “drama that lifts you right out of your seat\,” writes The Hollywood Reporter. \n\n\n\n“The picture has exceptional merits as absorbing entertainment\, reflecting the fine craftsmanship of all who had hands in its making. Certainly a more accomplished cast of players cannot be imagined\, and their direction by Michael Curtiz is inspired.” \n\n\n\n\nTickets and Showtime for Casablanca\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Birdcage\n\n\n\nR | 1h 58min | Comedy\n\n\n\nDirector: Mike Nichols\n\n\n\nStars: Robin Williams\, Nathan Lane\, Gene Hackman\n\n\n\nTUESDAY\, JUNE 24\, AT 7 P.M. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThe Birdcage remains a groundbreaking milestone in the history of LGBTQ+ cinema. This remake of the French farce La Cage Aux Folles stars Robin Williams and Nathan Lane as a gay couple trying to literally play it straight while meeting their son’s future in-laws. \n\n\n\nDirector Mike Nichols’ film is an “enchantingly witty and humane entertainment” that “actually improves upon its source\,” raves Entertainment Weekly. “In The Birdcage\, we go beyond the stereotypes to see the characters’ depth and humanity\,” praises the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation. \n\n\n\nAdds BBC: “What’s impressive is how relatively progressive The Birdcage still feels\, within the context of mainstream cinema\, in its treatment of queerness. Of the other Hollywood attempts at a ‘gay comedy’ in the 1990s\, and since … few have reached the bar that Nichols set.” \n\n\n\n\nTickets and Showtime for The Birdcage\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRebel Without a Cause\n\n\n\nPG-13 | 1h 51min | Drama\, Coming of Age\n\n\n\nDirector: Nicholas Ray\n\n\n\nStars: James Dean\, Natalie Wood\, Sal Mineo\n\n\n\nSUNDAY\, JUNE 29\, AT 1 P.M. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHas anyone ever exuded pure\, unfiltered coolness more than James Dean in Rebel Without a Cause? He plays Jim Stark\, the new kid in town looking for a fresh start. Jim ends up making plenty of friends—along with a few enemies. \n\n\n\nRebel Without a Cause was released less than a month after the 24-year-old Dean’s tragic death. “As a ‘farewell’ performance he leaves behind\, with this film\, genuine artistic regret\, for here was a talent which might have touched the heights\,” writes Variety. \n\n\n\nExpounds Slant Magazine: “Profoundly romantic and lacerating in its despair\, Nicholas Ray’s Rebel Without a Cause\, a self-contained portrait of three isolated teenagers\, is James Dean’s best film. … He’s emotionally direct\, tenderly seductive\, protective of others and blessed with courtly humor.” \n\n\n\n\nTickets and Showtime for Rebel Without a Cause\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCinema Paradiso—Theatrical Cut\n\n\n\nPG | 2h 4min | Drama\, Coming of Age \n\n\n\nDirector: Giuseppe Tornatore\n\n\n\nStars: Salvatore Cascio\, Philippe Noiret\, Antonella Attili\n\n\n\nIn Italian\, with English Subtitles\n\n\n\nTHURSDAY\, JULY 10\, AT 7 P.M.; THURSDAY\, AUG. 14\, AT 7 P.M. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIt wouldn’t be summer at The Lindsay without Cinema Paradiso\, the sumptuous coming-of-age drama with a beautiful Ennio Morricone score. This Academy Award-winner follows a young boy as he falls in love with film and must choose between home and pursuing his dreams. \n\n\n\nCinema Paradiso is an “impossibly well-crafted” film that’s full of cinematic “richness and density of observation\,” lauds The Guardian. As The Washington Post succinctly summarizes: “It is\, in a word\, exquisite.” \n\n\n\n“There are films as lovely\, but none lovelier than Cinema Paradiso\, a folkloric salute to the medium itself\, flickering with yesterday’s innocence and lingering on the mind like bubbles in wine. Born of director Giuseppe Tornatore’s childhood memories\, this is a magic lantern in a Sicilian boy’s hand.” \n\n\n\n\nTickets and Showtimes for Cinema Paradiso\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArsenic and Old Lace\n\n\n\nNR | 1h 58min | Comedy\, Thriller\n\n\n\nDirector: Frank Capra\n\n\n\nStars: Cary Grant\, Priscilla Lane\, Raymond Massey\n\n\n\nTHURSDAY\, JULY 24\, AT 7 P.M.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArsenic and Old Lace is a 1944 comedic gem starring Cary Grant as a recently married writer who is horrified to learn that his beloved aunts (played by Josephine Hull and Jean Adair) have been harboring a bloody secret. \n\n\n\nThe first of two Frank Capra-directed films playing at The Lindsay this summer is a ” riotous farce” and “good macabre fun\,” praises The New York Times. Arsenic and Old Lace remains “an example of ensemble scenery-gnawing that has yet to be surpassed\,” declares Empire. \n\n\n\n“Josephine Hull and Jean Adair are delightfully dotty as the lethal landladies. … But it’s Cary Grant who steals the show\, as his double takes\, deliberate delivery and pantomimic commotions allow just a whisper of sanity to seep into this gloriously eccentric scenario.” \n\n\n\n\nTickets and Showtime for Arsenic and Old Lace\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Goonies\n\n\n\nPG | 1h 54min | Adventure\, Comedy\n\n\n\nDirector: Richard Donner\n\n\n\nStars: Sean Astin\, Josh Brolin\, Corey Feldman\n\n\n\nSUNDAY\, AUG. 10\, AT 1 P.M.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAdventure awaits in The Goonies\, the 1985 summer classic about a group of kids who bite off a bit more than they can chew while searching for a pirate’s hidden treasure. The film was directed by Richard Donner (Superman) and written by Steven Spielberg and Chris Columbus (of Home Alone fame). \n\n\n\nThe Goonies is a “deliciously dizzy adventure yarn” bursting with “crowd-pleasing perks\,” applauds New York Daily News. This was the film that proved “Spielberg and his directors are absolute masters of how to excite and involve an audience\,” proclaims RogerEbert.com. \n\n\n\n“The Goonies is a smooth mixture of the usual ingredients from Steven Spielberg action movies\, made special because of the high-energy performances of the kids who have the adventures. … There’s not just a thrill a minute; there’s a thrill\, a laugh\, a shock and a special effect.” \n\n\n\n\nTickets and Showtime for The Goonies\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIt Happened One Night\n\n\n\nNR | 1h 45min | Romance\, Comedy\n\n\n\nDirector: Frank Capra\n\n\n\nStars: Clark Gable\, Claudette Colbert\, Walter Connolly\n\n\n\nSUNDAY\, SEPT. 7\, AT 1 P.M. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIt Happened One Night is a 1934 screwball comedy from It’s a Wonderful Life director Frank Capra. Clark Gable stars as newspaper reporter Peter Warne\, who runs into heiress Ellie Andrews (Claudette Colbert) and becomes her accidental travel partner. Hijinks ensue\, and sparks fly. \n\n\n\nThe Los Angeles Times in 1934 was so confident that It Happened One Night would be a hit that it declared\, “And if the public doesn’t go all the way in for this one\, then there is not\, nor should be\, any joy in Cinemaland.” The New Republic agreed\, calling the film “first-rate entertainment.” \n\n\n\n“What the picture as a whole shows is that by changing such types as the usual pooh-bah father and city editor into people with some wit and feeling\, by consistently preferring the light touch to the heavy\, and by casting actors who are thoroughly up to the work of acting\, you can make some rather comely and greenish grasses grow.” \n\n\n\n\nTickets and Showtime for It Happened One Night\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Sound of Music\n\n\n\nG | 2h 59min | Musical\, Drama\, Romance\n\n\n\nDirector: Robert Wise\n\n\n\nStars: Julie Andrews\, Christopher Plummer\, Eleanor Parker\n\n\n\nSUNDAY\, SEPT. 14\, AT 1 P.M.; WEDNESDAY\, SEPT. 17\, AT 6:30 P.M. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Lindsay’s Summer of Timeless Classics concludes with a 60th-anniversary screening of The Sound of Music. Nobody can resist this gorgeous recounting of how a bubbly nun named Maria (Julie Andrews) entered Georg von Trapp’s (Christopher Plummer) home and brought love and music back into his family’s lives and hearts. \n\n\n\nThis Best Picture winner was “impeccably cast” and “offers enough sentiment to warm\,” wrote the Associated Press in 1965. The Sound of Music remains “one of the most beloved family-friendly classics in cinema history\,” proclaims IndieWire.  \n\n\n\n“Even as an adult\, you’ll still find yourself singing along. That score is immortal … and the music has never sounded half as good as it does coming from Julie Andrews\, whose spritely and luminous portrayal of nun-turned-governess Maria remains the gold standard for musical theater acting.” \n\n\n\n\nTickets and Showtimes for The Sound of Music

SUMMARY:'The Piano Lesson'
DESCRIPTION:Commemorate Juneteenth with this gripping adaptation of August Wilson’s Pittsburgh-set play.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBuy Tickets Here\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThe Lindsay is partnering with the Sewickley Community Center’s Juneteenth Committee for a special presentation of The Piano Lesson in observance of Juneteenth. \n\n\n\nThis screening will take place on Thursday\, June 19\, at 7:15 p.m. General admission tickets are on sale for $11. \n\n\n\nThe Piano Lesson is a 2024 cinematic reinvention of Pittsburgh playwright August Wilson’s groundbreaking 1987 play. This supernaturally tinged tale is set in 1930s Pittsburgh and follows the brewing conflict between two siblings with vastly different ideas about what to do with an heirloom piano that physically displays their enslaved ancestors’ stories. \n\n\n\nThis take on the Pulitzer Prize-winning play is the third Wilson adaptation produced by Denzel Washington\, following 2016’s Fences and 2020’s Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom. The Piano Lesson was a family affair: It stars John David Washington\, Denzel’s eldest son\, and was the feature directorial debut of Malcolm Washington\, the Oscar winner’s youngest son. \n\n\n\nThe film also stars Samuel L. Jackson\, Danielle Deadwyler\, Ray Fisher\, Michael Potts\, Corey Hawkins and Skylar Aleece Smith. The Piano Lesson currently holds a cumulative critics’ score of 88% on Rotten Tomatoes. \n\n\n\n“The Piano Lesson brings another powerful August Wilson play to the screen\,” raves The Wrap. “With performances that will resonate and a directorial debut that will not soon be forgotten\, The Piano Lesson is a lesson in love\, friendship and family.”

SUMMARY:'Steel Links' Public Premiere and Q&A
DESCRIPTION:The Lindsay is partnering with WQED to show a new documentary about golf’s deep roots in Pittsburgh.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBuy Tickets Here!\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nSteel Links is an hour-long WQED documentary chronicling Pittsburgh’s industrial roots and its rise to the forefront of technology\, culture and sports—including golf. \n\n\n\nThe film will play at The Lindsay on Sunday\, June 8\, at 5 p.m. and Monday\, June 9\, at 7 p.m. The June 8 showing is sold out\, but general admission tickets for the June 9 event are on sale for $11. Both screenings are taking place ahead of the film’s WQED broadcast premiere on June 10 at 9 p.m. and before Oakmont hosts its 10th U.S. Open from June 12-15.  \n\n\n\nThroughout the film\, former Pirate Neil Walker leads viewers on this heartfelt tour of the Western Pennsylvania he knows and loves. Walker also will be present at the Theater on June 8 for a live Q&A following the screening. There will also be an in-person Q&A after the June 9 show. \n\n\n\nIn addition to Walker\, Steel Links features segments with former Steelers Coach Bill Cowher; former Steelers quarterback Charlie Batch; rapper and Pittsburgh native Wiz Khalifa; professional golfer and Greensburg native Rocco Mediate; World Golf Hall of Famer and Sewickley native/resident Carol Semple Thompson; and other local luminaries representing various facets of Pittsburgh. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Steel Links pays homage to a city of grit\, resilience and reinvention\,” says Jason Jedlinski\, WQED’s president and CEO. “It’s both a tribute to our past and a reflection of our future\, chronicling the legacy and evolution of the Oakmont Country Club\, the game of golf and Pittsburgh itself. It reminds us what makes Pittsburgh—and its people—so special.”  \n\n\n\nSteel Links was created and executive produced by veteran filmmaker Brad Turkel. He also produced It’s a Beautiful Day in Pinehurst\, a one-hour PBS documentary about that area of North Carolina’s rich cultural and golfing traditions. Turkel’s vision with Steel Links was to do the same for Pittsburgh ahead of the U.S. Open at Oakmont. \n\n\n\nWestern Pennsylvania became Turkel’s “home away from home” after frequent visits to his wife’s hometown. Through Steel Links\, Turkel was able to dive deep into Pittsburgh’s modern tech\, arts\, music and sports scenes. He even united Walker\, Batch\, Mediate and Semple Thompson for 18 holes at Verona’s Long Vue Club. \n\n\n\nIn the film\, “We hear stories sharing their individual experiences with their sports and Pittsburgh\,” Turkel says. “Steel Links is told through the eyes and voices of well-known Pittsburghers. It’s like a love letter to the Pittsburgh that was\, is and continues to transform. \n\n\n\n“We want to showcase all the wonderful towns in and around Pittsburgh\,” Turkel continues. “Premiering at The Lindsay in Sewickley kind of symbolizes everything this doc is about.”

SUMMARY:'Lilo & Stitch' Sensory Friendly Screening
DESCRIPTION:Bring your ohana to The Lindsay for a ‘Lilo & Stitch’ experience designed for everyone!\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBuy Tickets Here!\n\n\n\n\n\nOhana means family. And we want to ensure that our entire Lindsay ohana can watch the latest Disney family films here! \n\n\n\nThat’s why we planned a sensory friendly Lilo & Stitch screening for Saturday\, May 31\, at 9 a.m. Tickets for this showing are on sale for our discounted rate of $8.75. \n\n\n\nLilo & Stitch is Disney’s live-action remake of the studio’s 2002 animated comedy. Lilo (Maia Kealoha) is a lonely Hawaiian girl living with her frazzled older sister\, Nani (Sydney Agudong). \n\n\n\nTheir lives are turned upside down when Stitch (voiced by Chris Sanders)\, their newly adopted dog\, turns out to be an escaped alien experiment. Though Stitch was built to be an agent of chaos and destruction\, he slowly realizes that he truly belongs with his newfound ohana. \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThe Lindsay has been proudly holding sensory friendly screenings since 2017. These screenings provide an option for families\, children and adults impacted by autism and other special needs to watch films together in a low-stress environment. \n\n\n\nWe lower the film’s volume\, keep on dim house lights\, and have a door open to restrooms and the lobby throughout the film. Trailers are eliminated to reduce the necessary “sit time.” Staffing levels are also increased to allow a personal\, unhurried cinematic experience for everyone.  \n\n\n\nThe Lindsay usually offers sensory friendly screenings of every family-friendly film we play. Recent examples include sensory friendly screenings of Moana 2\, Mufasa: The Lion King\, Paddington in Peru\, Snow White and A Minecraft Movie.

SUMMARY:Oscars Talk with Local Film Critics
DESCRIPTION:Get ready for the 2025 Academy Awards with some of Pittsburgh’s finest film critics and experts!\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Lindsay Theater and Cultural Center is offering local cinephiles and awards-season enthusiasts a rare opportunity to hear from experts about the 2025 Oscars. \n\n\n\nAmanda Waltz\, Pittsburgh City Paper’s entertainment editor\, will moderate a wide-ranging discussion and Q&A with a panel comprising Pittsburgh Film Critics Association members Lindsey Bahr (Associated Press)\, Sean Collier (Pittsburgh Magazine) and Megan McLachlan (The Contending). Josh Axelrod\, The Lindsay’s Director of Communications and an active PFCA member\, will also be on hand.  \n\n\n\nThis free and non-ticketed event will take place in The Lindsay’s Community Room on Sunday\, Feb. 16\, at 2 p.m. These professional critics and journalists will provide their thoughts on this year’s Oscars race\, films that seem to be over- or underperforming with voters\, their ideal Oscars scenarios and much more. They’ll then take audience questions. \n\n\n\n\nLindsey Bahr has been an Associated Press film critic since 2014. While based in the Pittsburgh area\, Bahr is a regular at Hollywood’s glitziest awards shows. She covered this year’s Golden Globes ceremony and plans to be at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles for the 2025 Oscars.  \n\n\n\nSean Collier is Pittsburgh Magazine’s managing editor and film guru. He’s also a stand-up comic\, co-founder of Vigilance Theater Group\, co-host of The Number One Movie in America podcast\, and a regular on WDVE and Pittsburgh Today Live. \n\n\n\nMegan McLachlan\, a former Awards Daily contributor\, recently co-founded the awards advocacy site The Contending. Her work also has appeared in Buzzfeed\, Cosmopolitan\, The Cut\, Paste\, Thrillist\, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and The Washington Post. \n\n\n\nThe Pittsburgh Film Critics Association\, formed in 2023 by 15 Western Pennsylvania-based critics\, announced its first-ever film awards earlier this year. They collectively crowned The Substance\, a Best Picture nominee at the Oscars\, as 2024’s best picture. \n\n\n\nHearing from these film aficionados might prove helpful to anyone who hasn’t submitted their ballot for The Lindsay’s annual Oscars contest. Completed ballots—available only at the Theater—will be accepted until Saturday\, March 1\, at 8 p.m. The film buff who most accurately predicts the highest number of winners—matching the Academy’s Best Picture—will earn a non-transferable pass for free\, unlimited movies for the rest of 2025!

SUMMARY:Billy Gardell's "The Vortex"
DESCRIPTION:The Lindsay is hosting the exclusive regional run of Swissvale native Billy Gardell’s new gambling drama.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets Available here!\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Lindsay Theater and Cultural Center will be the only place in Western Pennsylvania for fans of Swissvale native Billy Gardell to check out his first-ever lead dramatic role in a film. \n\n\n\nThe Vortex is set in the 1980s and stars Gardell as Pete Finnegan\, a gambling addict and the in-house comedian at the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. Pete ends up playing shrink to a host of colorful misfits while dodging mobsters and “collectors.” \n\n\n\nThe Vortex will play at The Lindsay from Feb. 14-20. Tickets are currently on sale for $11. \n\n\n\nThe Lindsay will be one of only a few theaters around the country licensed to show The Vortex during its initial theatrical run. The film will also debut in Los Angeles\, Chicago and Orlando\, Fla. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n“My hometown has been behind me since the early days\, so I try to share everything I do with Pittsburgh\,” says Gardell\, a comedian most well-known for his starring roles in CBS sitcoms Mike & Molly and Bob Hearts Abishola. “They made me who I am\, and so they will always get the first look.” \n\n\n\nThe film’s title refers to Gardell’s character “being caught in the vortex of his gambling addiction\,” says director and co-writer Richard Zelniker. Its cast also includes Jaina Lee Ortiz (Station 19)\, Jamie McShane (Wednesday)\, Azita Ghanizada (Suits: L.A.)\, Emily Alabi (FBI)\, Nick Gomez (Fargo) and Christopher Titus (Titus). \n\n\n\n“As the co-writer\, producer and director\, I’m humbled and grateful to say I believe we’ve created something truly special\,” Zelniker says. “I envisioned this film being experienced in the sacred space of a theater—on the silver screen\, in the dark\, with an audience.” \n\n\n\nPittsburghers will definitely want to watch Gardell flex his dramatic muscles in The Vortex. \n\n\n\n“It was a great experience to play a different tone as an actor\, and this film gave me a chance to do that\,” Gardell says. “I think that’s the key to continuing to get better and better at your job.” \n\n\n\nAdds Zelniker: “There’s nothing better than seeing a local hero like Billy Gardell shine in such a unique way. He’s phenomenal in this film\, and it’s a treat Pittsburghers won’t want to miss.”

SUMMARY:Allegheny Sport & Outdoor Film Festival
DESCRIPTION:Five exciting documentaries celebrating this region’s athletic spirit—all for $11!\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets Available here!\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Allegheny Sport & Outdoor Film Festival will hold a “Local Legends” screening at the Sewickley nonprofit theater on Sunday\, Jan. 26\, at 1 p.m.  ASOFF is a Pittsburgh-based project celebrating sport\, outdoor culture and adventure documentary films with a special emphasis on stories from Western Pennsylvania\, Northern Appalachia and the mid-Atlantic region. \n\n\n\nFive documentaries will be shown\, most of them spotlighting a Western Pennsylvania-based athlete or organization. This event will also include Q&As with a director or subject from each film. Tickets\, including admission to all films\, are available for $11. \n\n\n\n“The goal is to highlight this region’s outdoor spirit and bring it up to par with festivals and outdoor recreation on the national and international level\,” says Rishi Sethi\, CEO of locally based malhari.media and ASOFF’s communications and operations director. “This ‘Local Legends’ screening should be an exciting way for folks to see what’s going on in their own backyard.” \n\n\n\n\nThe five “Local Legends” films are: \n\n\n\n• We Ride (65 minutes)\, which follows three cyclists from Pittsburgh Youth Leadership endeavoring to cycle across America in just 18 days. \n\n\n\n• To Be The Man (3 minutes)\, which focuses on Michael “Gagz” Gagliardi’s battle for a fifth consecutive win at the Loopy Looper 12-hour Endurance Race. \n\n\n\n• First Waves Beaver County (5 minutes)\, a Sethi-directed documentary chronicling the expansion of the Watersmith Guild’s groundbreaking youth environmental education program into the Beaver and Ohio River valleys following the ethylene cracker plant’s pollution penalties. \n\n\n\n• Richard Hamilton (4 minutes)\, which profiles a wood-cutter and professional chainsaw carver. \n\n\n\n• Heaven on Earth (15 minutes)\, which follows the Highland Park Tennis Club as its members prepare for the start of the 2023 season. \n\n\n\nASOFF’s last engagement was at Downtown’s Harris Theater in November 2024. Festival director Chas Wagner chose The Lindsay for “Local Legends” because “there aren’t a lot of theaters that are welcoming to this kind of community programming.” \n\n\n\n“Part of our mission is to get outside of just the city\,” says Wagner. “The Lindsay is a great venue.”

SUMMARY:House of Tears Encore Screening
DESCRIPTION:Reserve Tickets\n\n\n\n\nFollowing last month’s “sold out” world premiere\, Lindsay Theater and Cultural Center will host an encore screening of House of Tears\, a Western Pennsylvania-filmed murder mystery inspired by the classic board game Clue. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHouse of Tears was written and directed by Bethel Park native Josh Poe. It’s set during a dinner party hosted by famous chocolate maker Vincent Loren (WTAE-TV reporter Sheldon Ingram). The 11 guests gathered at this secluded home are quickly forced to confront an unknown enemy seemingly intent on killing everyone in attendance. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Lindsay’s House of Tears encore screening will take place on Thursday\, Jan. 16\, at 7 p.m. The event will also include a Q&A with Poe and other members of the filmmaking team. While the screening is free\, please be sure to RSVP as space is limited. \n\n\n\n“I wanted to premiere the movie close to home and always wanted to use The Lindsay for its classic theater feel\,” says Poe\, 25\, a Denison University graduate with a degree in commerce\, media and the arts. House of Tears began as a suggestion by a friend of Poe’s to make a short film involving a house. \n\n\n\n“I always loved the board game and movie Clue\,” says Poe. “So for my first foray into the horror genre\, I decided that I wanted to make a movie similar to that film\, but more horror-based.” \n\n\n\nThat initial idea eventually evolved into a script for a feature-length murder mystery. Poe and company filmed over the course of 14 days in two different homes\, including one belonging to the grandfather of a House of Tears crew member. \n\n\n\n“Since we wrapped in late winter\, we have been basically working on something every day for this film\,” says Poe. “Putting together this movie has been a ton of fun\, and I am so proud of each and everyone that helped us along the way because it is truly amazing to see the work pay off.” \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn addition to Ingram\, House of Tears’ expansive cast also includes Payton Léger\, Delaney Hathaway\, Charles Mengine\, Shane Callahan\, Kelsey Rhea\, Duncan Jameson\, Amaru Williams\, Molly McDowell\, Spencer Samson\, Chris Storms\, David Nackman and Robert Scott.

SUMMARY:First Week-Long Run of Locally Made Thriller Basic Psych
DESCRIPTION:Buy Tickets\n\n\n\n\nBasic Psych\, a Western Pennsylvania-filmed thriller starring Michael Cerveris and David Conrad\, will play for at least a week at The Lindsay Theater and Cultural Center. \n\n\n\nCerveris\, a two-time Tony winner also known for his small-screen work in shows like Mindhunter and The Gilded Age\, stars in Basic Psych as psychiatrist Stuart Prince. Conrad\, a Pittsburgh native and Ghost Whisperer series regular\, plays an enigmatic patient who Dr. Prince begins to suspect may pose a threat to others—including his family. \n\n\n\n\nBasic Psych will open at The Lindsay on Jan. 10 and will run through at least Jan. 16. Tickets are currently on sale and available via The Lindsay’s website. \n\n\n\nThis long-awaited product of the Pittsburgh film industry was directed by Melissa Martin (The Bread\, My Sweet) and penned by Jim Tucker\, a local pediatrician and novelist making his screenwriting debut with Basic Psych. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“It’s a thrill for me to have my first screenplay finally come to the big screen at The Lindsay Theater!” says Tucker. “I am overwhelmed by how marvelous The Lindsay Theater is. I love that it’s a theater that has such terrific audio\, outstanding acoustics and perfect picture quality.” \n\n\n\nProduction on Basic Psych was delayed due to COVID-induced shutdowns and was finally completed in summer 2021. Filming took place all over the region\, from a house in Fox Chapel to La Roche University in McCandless to the former Vessel Studio in the South Side. \n\n\n\n“I’m in love with this city\,” says Martin. “Part of the reason I want to keep making movies is because I want to capture this city on film. We love it so much\, and it’s just beautiful.” \n\n\n\nThe Basic Psych cast also features Siena Goines (Days of Our Lives) and regional acting talent such as Cotter Smith (Unsinkable)\, Patrick Jordan (American Rust) and Carl Clemons (A Man Called Otto). Martin also shouted out locally based Basic Psych cinematographer Jeff Garton (Unsinkable) and the post-production assistance provided by Western Pennsylvania-based companies Red Caiman Studios and PMI Digital. \n\n\n\nBasic Psych premiered last year as part of the 2024 Three Rivers Film Festival. It screened two days later at The Lindsay and quickly sold out. Martin attended that Lindsay screening and thinks it’s “wonderful to have a theater here that participates with independent filmmakers.” \n\n\n\nShe can’t wait for a film that was made in her adopted hometown during a global pandemic to play for an entire week at one of her favorite theaters. \n\n\n\n“It’s a thrill ride!” says Martin. “It’s really important\, just like for us to go to the Steelers and Pirates\, to see what homegrown talent can do in this city. We can make a thing that’s a lot of fun and has a really great story.”

SUMMARY:Curtains for Christmas
DESCRIPTION:Reserve Tickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDo you enjoy mixing a little horror into your seasonal movie-watching? Then you’ve come to the right place! \n\n\n\nCurtains for Christmas follows a woman who will do whatever it takes to ensure her life is as perfect as the characters’ in her favorite holiday films. This locally filmed horror-comedy was directed by prolific Coraopolis-based filmmaker Steve Rudzinski and written by Rudzinski and Aleen Isley\, who also plays the leading role. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIsley and Rudzinski will premiere Curtains for Christmas regionally at The Lindsay Theater and Cultural Center on Thursday\, Dec. 19\, at 7:30 p.m. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with Rudzinski\, Isley\, and attending cast and crew. This event is free\, but RSVPs are encouraged in advance due to space limitations. \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n“When an organization like The Lindsay Theater really does a lot to support movies and actively wants independent filmmakers to screen there\, I think it’s important to give that support back how I can and make sure I do at least my regional premieres at the theater\,” says Rudzinski. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRudzinski has earned an international following by directing at least one film a year since 2011. He’s known for independently produced horror romps like the CarousHELL Trilogy that played at The Lindsay earlier this year. Rudzinski had planned to take 2024 off\, but that changed after Isley “came up with a really great idea with a really great title.” \n\n\n\n“It’s our first totally new intellectual property in seven years\, yet still feels like exactly what my fans have come to love\,” says Rudzinski. “We may take a look at the holiday through maybe a less wholesome lens\, but even as we skewer seasonal obsession\, it’s still done with genuine loving homage for the holiday and the films that helped inspire this.” \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn Rudzinski’s experience\, Christmas horror is a “super fun genre that feels like it doesn’t have as many entries as I would like to see.” That’s why he was excited to mobilize the Pittsburgh film scene—including frequent on-screen collaborators like Isley\, Michael Varrati\, Jessa Flux\, Jess Uhler\, Andrew Gordon and Sewickley native David Dietz—for a little holiday-themed horror. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“There are a lot of great creators and performers in this region\, and a film like this helps display a very small portion of that creativity and talent\,” says Rudzinski. “It shows how folks outside of the larger studio system can put together some really unique and creative takes on multiple genres without needing to break the bank.”

We hope to see you at the Theater during the most wonderful time of the year! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIt’s a Wonderful Life\n\n\n\nPG | 2h 10min | Drama\, Fantasy\, Romance\n\n\n\nDirector: Frank Capra\n\n\n\nStars: James Stewart\, Donna Reed\, Lionel Barrymore\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHow many of us can remember a holiday season without It’s a Wonderful Life? That’s a testament to the enduring universality of this beautiful drama about a businessman (Indiana\, Pa.\, native James Stewart) seeing what the world would look like without him. \n\n\n\nAlmost 80 years later\, It’s a Wonderful Life remains “a genuine American classic\,” writes The Guardian. Even in 1946\, critics like The Hollywood Reporter‘s Jack D. Grant realized that director Frank Capra had made a film in which “everyone who sees it will agree that it’s wonderful entertainment.” \n\n\n\n“His direction of the individual characterizations delivered is also distinctively his\, and the performances\, from the starring roles of James Stewart and Donna Reed down to the smallest bit\, are magnificent. When Capra is at his best\, no one can top him.” \n\n\n\n\nTickets and Showtimes for It’s a Wonderful Life\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nElf\n\n\n\nPG | 1h 37min | Comedy\n\n\n\nDirector: Jon Favreau\n\n\n\nStars: Will Ferrell\, James Caan\, Zooey Deschanel\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVery little will get you in the holiday spirit faster than Elf. Director Jon Favreau’s 2003 comedy follows Buddy (Will Ferrell)\, a human raised among Santa’s elves who leaves the North Pole to find his father (James Caan) and remind jaded New Yorkers about the true meaning of Christmas. \n\n\n\nElf is an “irresistibly goofy Christmas comedy” that “takes bold pleasure in unabashed silliness\,” raves Salon. As the New York Post playfully declares: “Yule love it.” \n\n\n\n“Elf is a pleasantly old-fashioned\, gee-whillikers Yuletide confection…Ferrell’s manic\, overgrown-kid energy sweeps all before it\, announcing him as a major leading-man talent who can charm as well as amuse.”The Lindsay will be holding a sensory-friendly Elf screening on Saturday\, Dec. 21\, at 10 a.m. We encourage those who are interested in attending this screening to purchase tickets in advance. \n\n\n\n\nTickets and Showtimes for Elf\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNational Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation\n\n\n\nPG-13 | 1h 37min | Comedy \n\n\n\nDirector: Jeremiah S. Chechick\n\n\n\nStars: Chevy Chase\, Bevery D’Angelo\, Juliette Lewis\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWho could have guessed that Clark Griswold’s (Chevy Chase) grand vision for the perfect Christmas was destined to go delightfully haywire? Well\, just everybody going into National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation who had spent the 1980s laughing along with the Griswolds’ hapless antics. \n\n\n\nChristmas Vacation “may be the only modern Christmas comedy which really stands up to repeat viewings\,” declares Time Out. The third Vacation film finds “Chevy Chase and brood doing what they do best\,” praises Variety. \n\n\n\n“If it doesn’t make you at least giggle\,” adds Empire\, “then you clearly don’t understand the true meaning of the festive season—which is of course combustible toilets and electrified cats.”The Lindsay is collaborating with The Burgh Bus on a Dec. 21 Holiday Ride that will begin with a 6:30 p.m. Burgh Bus tour and culminate in a 7:30 p.m. National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation screening. Don’t miss out! \n\n\n\n\nTickets and Showtimes for Christmas Vacation\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe’re No Angels\n\n\n\nNR | 1h 46min | Comedy\, Caper\n\n\n\nDirector: Michael Curtiz\n\n\n\nStars: Humphrey Bogart\, Peter Ustinov\, Aldo Ray\n\n\n\nSINGLE SCREENING on Sunday\, Dec. 15\, at 1 p.m.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Pittsburgh Classic Movie Club returns to The Lindsay for a one-time showing of We’re No Angels\, the 1955 screwball comedy about three escaped convicts who are unexpectedly moved to help a kind shopkeeper and his family. \n\n\n\nWe’re No Angels soars thanks to “Michael Curtiz’s directorial pacing and topflight performances from Humphrey Bogart\, Aldo Ray and Peter Ustinov\,” lauds Variety. This Broadway adaptation is an “assured\, entertaining black comedy” that feels “both warm and sophisticated\,” writes TV Guide. \n\n\n\nBe sure you head over to The Lindsay early on Sunday\, Dec. 15\, for a special introduction from Pittsburgh Classic Movie Club President Wendy Whittick. \n\n\n\n\nTickets for We’re No Angels\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhite Christmas\n\n\n\nNR | 2h 5min | Musical\, Comedy\, Romance\n\n\n\nDirector: Michael Curtiz\n\n\n\nStars: Bing Crosby\, Rosemary Clooney\, Danny Kaye\n\n\n\nLIMITED SCREENINGS: Sunday\, Dec. 15\, at 3:30 p.m. & Monday\, Dec. 16 at 7 p.m.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFathom Events is bringing White Christmas back to theaters for its 70th anniversary! A Christmas Story warm-heartedly chronicles his many efforts to convince the many adults in his life—including Santa—to get him a gift that keeps on giving. \n\n\n\nThis 1983 holiday comedy contains “a treasure chest of familiar moments that almost every kid—even those who don’t celebrate Christmas—can relate to\,” writes IGN. A Christmas Story is “family fare to savor” and simply “a joy to the world\,” declares The Washington Post.”If you’re a Christmas holdout\, a true believer who still hears reindeer on the roof\, and even on an unseasonably warm Christmas Eve holds out hope of waking to a yard full of snow and branches coated like velvet antlers\, then A Christmas Story is for you.” \n\n\n\n\nTickets and Showtimes for A Christmas Story\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Polar Express\n\n\n\nG | 1h 40min | Animated\, Adventure\n\n\n\nDirector: Robert Zemeckis\n\n\n\nStars: Tom Hanks\, Peter Scolari\, Nona Gaye\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAll aboard The Polar Express! His unexpected adventure teaches him important lessons about friendship\, bravery and the spirit of Christmas. \n\n\n\nThe Polar Express “is a runaway thrill” full of “rambunctious comedy…which buttresses the story’s sage wisdom\,” writes The Hollywood Reporter. Director Robert Zemeckis’ technical marvel “has the quality of a lot of lasting children’s entertainment\,” Roger Ebert wrote in his 2004 review. \n\n\n\n“The Polar Express is a movie for more than one season; it will become a perennial\, shared by the generations…The conductor tells Hero Boy he thinks he really should get on the train\, and I have the same advice for you.” \n\n\n\n\nTickets and Showtimes for The Polar Express

SUMMARY:House of Tears World Premiere
DESCRIPTION:The Lindsay Theater and Cultural Center’s next Emerging Filmmakers Showcase\, House of Tears\, is a Western Pennsylvania-filmed murder mystery inspired by the classic board game Clue. \n\n\n\nHouse of Tears was written and directed by Bethel Park native Josh Poe. It’s set during a dinner party hosted by famous chocolate maker Vincent Loren (WTAE-TV reporter Sheldon Ingram). The 11 guests gathered at this secluded home are quickly forced to confront an unknown enemy seemingly intent on killing everyone in attendance. \n\n\n\n\nThe Lindsay’s House of Tears screening will take place on Thursday\, Dec. 12\, at 7 p.m. This free event will also include a Q&A with Poe and other members of the filmmaking team. House of Tears is already proving to be a particularly popular Emerging Filmmakers Showcase\, so anyone interested in checking this film out should RSVP asap. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“I wanted to premiere the movie close to home and always wanted to use The Lindsay for its classic theater feel\,” says Poe\, 25\, a Denison University graduate with a degree in commerce\, media and the arts.

SUMMARY:KHAF World Premiere
DESCRIPTION:Reserve Tickets\n\n\n\n\nPittsburgh produces quite a bit of independently made horror films. Rarely\, though\, do those cinematic endeavors venture into folk horror territory. \n\n\n\nFor the uninitiated\, “folk horror” is a cinematic sub-genre known for isolated environments\, an emphasis on nature\, and utilizing real or fictional folklore to invoke terror and dread. That’s exactly what Jess Kaeden was aspiring for with KHAF\, her locally filmed feature about a Pennsylvania farm family being terrorized by a demon hellbent on obtaining their firstborn child. \n\n\n\nKHAF will have its world premiere on Thursday\, Nov. 21\, at 7 p.m. as the next entry in the The Lindsay Theater and Cultural Center’s ongoing Emerging Filmmakers Showcase series. That screening will be immediately followed by a Q&A with writer-director Kaeden; co-writers Jason Burke and Justen Kimball; and other members of the KHAF filmmaking team. \n\n\n\n\nTickets are free\, but RSVPs are encouraged in advance due to space limitations. \n\n\n\n“What makes KHAF sort of different from anything that anybody’s doing around here is that it’s more folk horror\,” says Kaeden\, the founder of locally based Spinning Web Productions. “The A24 atmosphere and aesthetic\, you don’t really see that around here.” \n\n\n\nKHAF stars a slew of recognizable local talent\, including Samantha Ainsworth\, Hattie Baier\, Brian Ceponis\, Kenneth Pierce and David Ogrodowski. The film was produced by\, among others\, Mike Ancas (Day of the Dead) and Wes Fisher (Children as Giants). \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nAinsworth plays Vera Darling\, who is forced to confront her family’s dark past that’s tied to an ancient cult and child-sacrifice rituals in service of Moloch\, an ancient Carthaginian demon. Kaeden said she drew inspiration for KHAF from recent Hollywood folk horror hits like Robert Eggers’ The Witch and Ari Aster’s Midsommar. \n\n\n\nShe wants to make sure everyone interested in attending the KHAF world premiere knows that her film deals with “deep psychological traumas.”  \n\n\n\nKaeden is a 24-year-old Connellsville native and graduate of the George A. Romero Filmmaking Program. KHAF was shot during summer and fall 2022 largely on farmland in Belle Vernon. Kaeden also set her film in the Keystone State because “I didn’t want to make a film out of Pennsylvania and call it somewhere else.” \n\n\n\n\nShe can’t wait for this unique example of Western Pennsylvania-filmed folk horror to debut next week at The Lindsay. \n\n\n\n“We’re all about supporting independent filmmakers\,” Kaeden says. “Pennsylvania is very centered around independent filmmakers\, but it’s very special to have a venue that has these Emerging Filmmaker Showcases. As an independent filmmaker\, I feel very honored.”

He’s currently in residence as this semester’s Visiting Documentary Filmmaker at Robert Morris University. \n\n\n\nHe’ll be at The Lindsay on Thursday\, Nov. 7\, at 7 p.m. to share five of his documentary shorts as part of a specially curated Queering the Documentary program. This semester\, Connor Lee O’Keefe brings his beautiful take on storytelling to our campus and our town. He is eloquent and his films are inspiring.”   \n\n\n\nThis is the second year in a row that The Lindsay will be hosting a Robert Morris Visiting Documentary Filmmaker’s public showcase. \n\n\n\n\n“I’m honored to have been able to continue refining my work as an artist with RMU and to have an opportunity to participate in fruitful dialogue with audiences at The Lindsay\,” says O’Keefe. “We need independent theaters to keep this art form doing what it does best—and that’s bringing people together.” \n\n\n\nRMU’s Visiting Documentary Filmmaker program is a 15-week residency that requires participants to teach a documentary introduction class\, create and share their work\, and actively engage with the RMU faculty\, student body and general community. \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n“We need queer and trans perspectives now more than ever\,” says O’Keefe. “I hope these films immerse you into a space that allows you to wonder\, heal and grow.”
