DESCRIPTION:The Lindsay’s third Emerging Filmmakers Showcase of July is a thought-provoking medical drama.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRSVP Here!\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nThe Lindsay’s third Emerging Filmmakers Showcase this month is a sneak peak at a fascinating new drama about medical ethics.  \n\n\n\nValidity was written and directed by Pittsburgh-based artists Kate Vargish and Randy Kovitz\, respectively. Their film\, inspired by true events\, follows a hypothermia researcher struggling with the morally tricky notion of using potentially life-saving data that was obtained from a terrible source. \n\n\n\nKovitz’s feature directorial debut will screen at The Lindsay on Thursday\, July 31\, at 7 p.m. Tickets are free\, but RSVPs are recommended in advance. \n\n\n\nAmy Marsalis stars as Dr. Sidney Randall\, a researcher who stumbles across invaluable data that was gathered during experiments at long-defunct Nazi death camps. Dr. Randall recruits a team to help her navigate the cutthroat world of health-ethics debates and (hopefully) earn the medical establishment’s approval to validate her findings. \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThe main cast also includes Kovitz\, Dominique Brock\, Daniel Klein\, Lisa Ann Goldsmith and Ken Bolden. \n\n\n\nKovitz is an actor\, writer\, musician\, producer and award-winning filmmaker. His acting credits range from Broadway and regional theater to TV and feature films. He also teaches acting for the camera at the Carnegie Mellon University School of Drama while also directing\, producing and editing the school’s acting and musical theater showcase video material. Kovitz has also worked as a fight director and stunt coordinator and performer—most notably\, as Raul Julia’s fencing double in 1991’s The Addams Family big-screen adaptation. \n\n\n\nVargish is a writer and producer with an MFA in dramatic writing from Carnegie Mellon University. She has produced several independent web series and short films in the Pittsburgh area\, as well as working on projects in Seattle and Los Angeles. Vargish has also produced film work for Pitt Stages\, CMU\, 1Hood Media and Ryse Professional Wrestling.

DESCRIPTION:Local filmmaker Max Cianci will screen a selection of his narrative shorts and commercial work.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRSVP Here!\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Lindsay’s second Emerging Filmmakers Showcase of July shines the spotlight on one of Pittsburgh’s most talented independent filmmakers. Max Cianci is a Hermitage\, Pa.\, native who has been living and working in Pittsburgh since 2014. The Point Park University alumnus has plenty of experience directing both narrative and commercial shorts. Cianci has plans for many projects down the pipeline—and he’s giving Lindsay patrons a taste of what’s to come. The Filmworks of Max Cianci will exclusively screen at The Lindsay on Thursday\, July 17\, at 7 p.m. This event is free\, but RSVPs are recommended. The evening will include a few Cianci-directed commercials\, three narrative short films\, a proof-of-concept short\, and an in-person Q&A with Cianci. \n\n\n\n\n\nCianci will unveil his proof of concept short film\, Tiny Toe. This is a short that he intends to make into a larger project. It follows a hunter who discovers an unusual creature in one of his traps. His hope is to create something that stands amongst the great lineage of creature and monster filmmaking here in Pittsburgh. \n\n\n\nThis event will also be the rare chance to see two other Cianci shorts on the big screen: 2020’s Loopy: A Quarantine Short Film\, co-directed by and starring Cianci\, is about a man investigating a seemingly abandoned building; and 2021’s The Sale\, about two thieves who get more than they bargained for during a looting run. Loopy was selected for over twenty film festivals during its run\, including the National Film Festival for Talented Youth (NFFTY). The Sale received the Audience Choice Award at Pittsburgh Short’s Thriller Chiller screening. \n\n\n\nHe will also screen Crypt\, a 48 Hour Film Project production that won Best Cinematography\, Best Actress\, and Audience Choice. Crypt follows a woman who must escape after she wakes up during the process of being mummified. Cianci and his team created this film completely over the course of a single weekend.

This 50-minute feature follows two best friends with opposing dispositions on a journey of self-discovery over one particularly eventful night. \n\n\n\nZazu’s film will premiere at The Lindsay on Monday\, July 14\, at 7 p.m. Tickets are free\, but RSVPs are recommended. Though it’s not required\, Zazu would love if all attendees dressed in formal attire. The film will be followed by an in-person Q&A with Zazu\, stars Kain Davis and McKenna Howell\, director of photography Steven Croner\, and first assistant director Sophia Beigi. \n\n\n\nDavis stars as Richie Hilton\, a privileged but insecure aspiring real estate professional. Richie’s best friend\, Tanner (Robert Starzynski)\, is more playful and grounded. Tanner is generally amused by Richie’s behavior\, but his erratic tendencies have increasingly become a source of exasperation. \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThe main cast also includes Howell\, David Ogrodowski\, Alyssa Wenzel and Mya Favata. Ogrodowski\, a prolific Pittsburgh actor\, also produced Zazu’s feature directorial debut. \n\n\n\nZazu has been directing\, writing and editing films for the last eight years. The Milwaukee native moved to Pittsburgh in 2022 and quickly began churning out short films like Purple and 80 Grand. Zazu finds purpose in connecting with people and working closely with actors to bring his stories to life.

Anyone walking through the Green Street Parking Lot—located directly beside The Lindsay—on Friday\, June 27 will get to marvel at and take photos with a variety of exotic cars. \n\n\n\nPittsburgh Cars ‘N’ Coffee is giving automobile aficionados the rare chance to get up close with an Ariel Atom\, Ferrari 458 Italia\, McLaren 750S Spider\, Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera and more vintage vehicles. \n\n\n\nF1: The Movie stars Brad Pitt as an older driver who is coaxed out of retirement to mentor a young hotshot. The film was directed directed by Top Gun: Maverick‘s Joseph Kosinski\, produced by F1 legend Lewis Hamilton and was filmed during real F1 Grand Prix weekends. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPittsburgh Cars ‘N’ Coffee was founded in 2010 and has since grown into Western Pennsylvania’s premier exotic and modern performance automotive enthusiast group. The group meets biweekly at Generoasta Coffee & Cafe in Warrendale and organizes multiple shows and charity events throughout the year. \n\n\n\n“Pittsburgh Cars ‘N’ Coffee is thrilled for the premier of the new F1 movie!” says Clifford Laschon\, the group’s founder and president. “Many of our members are huge Formula 1 fans and the involvement of many of the current F1 drivers\, including Lewis Hamilton as a producer\, means that this should be an exciting and realistic film. \n\n\n\n“We are honored to team up with The Lindsay Theater\, which is a wonderful venue in the heart of Sewickley. DESCRIPTION:Bradley Cooper produced this film about the joys and struggles of life as a full-time caregiver.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRSVP Here!\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Lindsay\, WQED and Comfort Keepers are partnering to show a new PBS documentary about the triumphs and challenges of being a caregiver. \n\n\n\nCaregiving spotlights the stories of everyday folks—both paid and unpaid—as they navigate the rewarding and exhausting work inherent in caring for ill or aging loved ones. It was produced by Oscar nominee Bradley Cooper and narrated by Emmy winner Uzo Aduba\, who both served as caregivers for a sick parent. \n\n\n\nThe Lindsay is showing Caregiving on Thursday\, June 26\, at 7 p.m. The 30-minute screening will be preceded by a reception in the Theater’s Community Room from 6-7 p.m. and followed by a Q&A with local experts in caregiving and at-home care. \n\n\n\nThis event is free\, but RSVPs are required. It is being co-sponsored by Comfort Keepers\, an organization providing in-home care to communities across Western Pennsylvania\, and WQED\, Pittsburgh’s PBS affiliate that also recently collaborated with The Lindsay on the public premiere of the documentary Steel Links. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nCaregiving largely focuses on the experiences of six family and professional caregivers. The featured caregivers include Matthew\, a young father caring for both his wife and son; Jacob\, a 14-year-old who\, along with his father\, shares the role of caregiver for his mom; Tracy\, a young woman looking after her dementia-stricken father; and Zulma\, a paid home health aide with a family of her own. \n\n\n\n“Making this film has been an inspiring and humbling experience\,” says Chris Durrance\, the film’s director and senior producer. “We have come to appreciate that every family has a care story and we hope that this film inspires viewers to share their own\, building new communities of care that will bring us all closer together.” \n\n\n\nThose care stories extend to Hollywood stars Cooper (Silver Linings Playbook) and Aduba (Orange is the New Black). The film was partially inspired by Cooper’s experiences taking care of his late father\, who had lung cancer. “Their ability to focus and give all of themselves is something that I stand in awe of\,” Cooper says during Caregiving in regards to his fellow caregivers. \n\n\n\nAduba played a similar role for her late mother\, who died in 2020 after a 495-day battle with pancreatic cancer. “I belong to the caregiving community\,” she told USA Today. She hopes that Caregiving serves as “a reminder that every single one of us is touched by the need for care.”

Josh Axelrod\, The Lindsay’s Director of Communications and an active PFCA member\, will also be on hand.  \n\n\n\nThis free and non-ticketed event will take place in The Lindsay’s Community Room on Sunday\, Feb. 16\, at 2 p.m. These professional critics and journalists will provide their thoughts on this year’s Oscars race\, films that seem to be over- or underperforming with voters\, their ideal Oscars scenarios and much more. They’ll then take audience questions. \n\n\n\n\nLindsey Bahr has been an Associated Press film critic since 2014. While based in the Pittsburgh area\, Bahr is a regular at Hollywood’s glitziest awards shows. She covered this year’s Golden Globes ceremony and plans to be at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles for the 2025 Oscars.  \n\n\n\nSean Collier is Pittsburgh Magazine’s managing editor and film guru. He’s also a stand-up comic\, co-founder of Vigilance Theater Group\, co-host of The Number One Movie in America podcast\, and a regular on WDVE and Pittsburgh Today Live. \n\n\n\nMegan McLachlan\, a former Awards Daily contributor\, recently co-founded the awards advocacy site The Contending. Her work also has appeared in Buzzfeed\, Cosmopolitan\, The Cut\, Paste\, Thrillist\, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and The Washington Post. \n\n\n\nThe Pittsburgh Film Critics Association\, formed in 2023 by 15 Western Pennsylvania-based critics\, announced its first-ever film awards earlier this year. Pete ends up playing shrink to a host of colorful misfits while dodging mobsters and “collectors.” \n\n\n\nThe Vortex will play at The Lindsay from Feb. 14-20. Tickets are currently on sale for $11. \n\n\n\nThe Lindsay will be one of only a few theaters around the country licensed to show The Vortex during its initial theatrical run. DESCRIPTION:Reserve Tickets\n\n\n\n\nFollowing last month’s “sold out” world premiere\, Lindsay Theater and Cultural Center will host an encore screening of House of Tears\, a Western Pennsylvania-filmed murder mystery inspired by the classic board game Clue.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHouse of Tears was written and directed by Bethel Park native Josh Poe. It’s set during a dinner party hosted by famous chocolate maker Vincent Loren (WTAE-TV reporter Sheldon Ingram). The 11 guests gathered at this secluded home are quickly forced to confront an unknown enemy seemingly intent on killing everyone in attendance. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Lindsay’s House of Tears encore screening will take place on Thursday\, Jan. 16\, at 7 p.m. The event will also include a Q&A with Poe and other members of the filmmaking team. While the screening is free\, please be sure to RSVP as space is limited. \n\n\n\n“I wanted to premiere the movie close to home and always wanted to use The Lindsay for its classic theater feel\,” says Poe\, 25\, a Denison University graduate with a degree in commerce\, media and the arts. House of Tears began as a suggestion by a friend of Poe’s to make a short film involving a house. \n\n\n\n“I always loved the board game and movie Clue\,” says Poe. “So for my first foray into the horror genre\, I decided that I wanted to make a movie similar to that film\, but more horror-based.” \n\n\n\nThat initial idea eventually evolved into a script for a feature-length murder mystery. Poe and company filmed over the course of 14 days in two different homes\, including one belonging to the grandfather of a House of Tears crew member. \n\n\n\n“Since we wrapped in late winter\, we have been basically working on something every day for this film\,” says Poe. “Putting together this movie has been a ton of fun\, and I am so proud of each and everyone that helped us along the way because it is truly amazing to see the work pay off.” \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn addition to Ingram\, House of Tears’ expansive cast also includes Payton Léger\, Delaney Hathaway\, Charles Mengine\, Shane Callahan\, Kelsey Rhea\, Duncan Jameson\, Amaru Williams\, Molly McDowell\, Spencer Samson\, Chris Storms\, David Nackman and Robert Scott.

SUMMARY:First Week-Long Run of Locally Made Thriller Basic Psych
DESCRIPTION:Buy Tickets\n\n\n\n\nBasic Psych\, a Western Pennsylvania-filmed thriller starring Michael Cerveris and David Conrad\, will play for at least a week at The Lindsay Theater and Cultural Center. \n\n\n\nCerveris\, a two-time Tony winner also known for his small-screen work in shows like Mindhunter and The Gilded Age\, stars in Basic Psych as psychiatrist Stuart Prince. Conrad\, a Pittsburgh native and Ghost Whisperer series regular\, plays an enigmatic patient who Dr. Prince begins to suspect may pose a threat to others—including his family. \n\n\n\n\nBasic Psych will open at The Lindsay on Jan. 10 and will run through at least Jan. 16. Tickets are currently on sale and available via The Lindsay’s website. \n\n\n\nThis long-awaited product of the Pittsburgh film industry was directed by Melissa Martin (The Bread\, My Sweet) and penned by Jim Tucker\, a local pediatrician and novelist making his screenwriting debut with Basic Psych. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n​​“It’s a thrill for me to have my first screenplay finally come to the big screen at The Lindsay Theater!” says Tucker. “I am overwhelmed by how marvelous The Lindsay Theater is. I love that it’s a theater that has such terrific audio\, outstanding acoustics and perfect picture quality.” \n\n\n\nProduction on Basic Psych was delayed due to COVID-induced shutdowns and was finally completed in summer 2021. Filming took place all over the region\, from a house in Fox Chapel to La Roche University in McCandless to the former Vessel Studio in the South Side. \n\n\n\n“I’m in love with this city\,” says Martin. “Part of the reason I want to keep making movies is because I want to capture this city on film. We love it so much\, and it’s just beautiful.” \n\n\n\nThe Basic Psych cast also features Siena Goines (Days of Our Lives) and regional acting talent such as Cotter Smith (Unsinkable)\, Patrick Jordan (American Rust) and Carl Clemons (A Man Called Otto). Martin also shouted out locally based Basic Psych cinematographer Jeff Garton (Unsinkable) and the post-production assistance provided by Western Pennsylvania-based companies Red Caiman Studios and PMI Digital. \n\n\n\nBasic Psych premiered last year as part of the 2024 Three Rivers Film Festival. It screened two days later at The Lindsay and quickly sold out. Martin attended that Lindsay screening and thinks it’s “wonderful to have a theater here that participates with independent filmmakers.” \n\n\n\nShe can’t wait for a film that was made in her adopted hometown during a global pandemic to play for an entire week at one of her favorite theaters. \n\n\n\n“It’s a thrill ride!” says Martin. “It’s really important\, just like for us to go to the Steelers and Pirates\, to see what homegrown talent can do in this city. We can make a thing that’s a lot of fun and has a really great story.”

This locally filmed horror-comedy was directed by prolific Coraopolis-based filmmaker Steve Rudzinski and written by Rudzinski and Aleen Isley\, who also plays the leading role. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIsley and Rudzinski will premiere Curtains for Christmas regionally at The Lindsay Theater and Cultural Center on Thursday\, Dec. 19\, at 7:30 p.m. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with Rudzinski\, Isley\, and attending cast and crew. This event is free\, but RSVPs are encouraged in advance due to space limitations. \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n“When an organization like The Lindsay Theater really does a lot to support movies and actively wants independent filmmakers to screen there\, I think it’s important to give that support back how I can and make sure I do at least my regional premieres at the theater\,” says Rudzinski. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRudzinski has earned an international following by directing at least one film a year since 2011. He’s known for independently produced horror romps like the CarousHELL Trilogy that played at The Lindsay earlier this year. Rudzinski had planned to take 2024 off\, but that changed after Isley “came up with a really great idea with a really great title.” \n\n\n\n“It’s our first totally new intellectual property in seven years\, yet still feels like exactly what my fans have come to love\,” says Rudzinski. “We may take a look at the holiday through maybe a less wholesome lens\, but even as we skewer seasonal obsession\, it’s still done with genuine loving homage for the holiday and the films that helped inspire this.” \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn Rudzinski’s experience\, Christmas horror is a “super fun genre that feels like it doesn’t have as many entries as I would like to see.” That’s why he was excited to mobilize the Pittsburgh film scene—including frequent on-screen collaborators like Isley\, Michael Varrati\, Jessa Flux\, Jess Uhler\, Andrew Gordon and Sewickley native David Dietz—for a little holiday-themed horror. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“There are a lot of great creators and performers in this region\, and a film like this helps display a very small portion of that creativity and talent\,” says Rudzinski. “It shows how folks outside of the larger studio system can put together some really unique and creative takes on multiple genres without needing to break the bank.”

DESCRIPTION:The Lindsay Theater and Cultural Center’s next Emerging Filmmakers Showcase\, House of Tears\, is a Western Pennsylvania-filmed murder mystery inspired by the classic board game Clue. \n\n\n\nHouse of Tears was written and directed by Bethel Park native Josh Poe. It’s set during a dinner party hosted by famous chocolate maker Vincent Loren (WTAE-TV reporter Sheldon Ingram). The 11 guests gathered at this secluded home are quickly forced to confront an unknown enemy seemingly intent on killing everyone in attendance. \n\n\n\n\nThe Lindsay’s House of Tears screening will take place on Thursday\, Dec. 12\, at 7 p.m. This free event will also include a Q&A with Poe and other members of the filmmaking team. House of Tears is already proving to be a particularly popular Emerging Filmmakers Showcase\, so anyone interested in checking this film out should RSVP asap. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“I wanted to premiere the movie close to home and always wanted to use The Lindsay for its classic theater feel\,” says Poe\, 25\, a Denison University graduate with a degree in commerce\, media and the arts. House of Tears began as a suggestion by a friend of Poe’s to make a short film involving a house. \n\n\n\n“I always loved the board game and movie Clue\,” says Poe. “So for my first foray into the horror genre\, I decided that I wanted to make a movie similar to that film\, but more horror-based.” \n\n\n\nThat initial idea eventually evolved into a script for a feature-length murder mystery. Poe and company filmed over the course of 14 days in two different homes\, including one belonging to the grandfather of a House of Tears crew member. \n\n\n\n“Since we wrapped in late winter\, we have been basically working on something every day for this film\,” says Poe. “Putting together this movie has been a ton of fun\, and I am so proud of each and everyone that helped us along the way because it is truly amazing to see the work pay off.” \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn addition to Ingram\, House of Tears’ expansive cast also includes Payton Léger\, Delaney Hathaway\, Charles Mengine\, Shane Callahan\, Kelsey Rhea\, Duncan Jameson\, Amaru Williams\, Molly McDowell\, Spencer Samson\, Chris Storms\, David Nackman and Robert Scott.

Rarely\, though\, do those cinematic endeavors venture into folk horror territory. \n\n\n\nFor the uninitiated\, “folk horror” is a cinematic sub-genre known for isolated environments\, an emphasis on nature\, and utilizing real or fictional folklore to invoke terror and dread. That’s exactly what Jess Kaeden was aspiring for with KHAF\, her locally filmed feature about a Pennsylvania farm family being terrorized by a demon hellbent on obtaining their firstborn child. \n\n\n\nKHAF will have its world premiere on Thursday\, Nov. 21\, at 7 p.m. as the next entry in the The Lindsay Theater and Cultural Center’s ongoing Emerging Filmmakers Showcase series. That screening will be immediately followed by a Q&A with writer-director Kaeden; co-writers Jason Burke and Justen Kimball; and other members of the KHAF filmmaking team. \n\n\n\n\nTickets are free\, but RSVPs are encouraged in advance due to space limitations. \n\n\n\n“What makes KHAF sort of different from anything that anybody’s doing around here is that it’s more folk horror\,” says Kaeden\, the founder of locally based Spinning Web Productions. “The A24 atmosphere and aesthetic\, you don’t really see that around here.” \n\n\n\nKHAF stars a slew of recognizable local talent\, including Samantha Ainsworth\, Hattie Baier\, Brian Ceponis\, Kenneth Pierce and David Ogrodowski. The film was produced by\, among others\, Mike Ancas (Day of the Dead) and Wes Fisher (Children as Giants). \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nAinsworth plays Vera Darling\, who is forced to confront her family’s dark past that’s tied to an ancient cult and child-sacrifice rituals in service of Moloch\, an ancient Carthaginian demon. Kaeden said she drew inspiration for KHAF from recent Hollywood folk horror hits like Robert Eggers’ The Witch and Ari Aster’s Midsommar. \n\n\n\nShe wants to make sure everyone interested in attending the KHAF world premiere knows that her film deals with “deep psychological traumas.”  \n\n\n\nKaeden is a 24-year-old Connellsville native and graduate of the George A. Romero Filmmaking Program. KHAF was shot during summer and fall 2022 largely on farmland in Belle Vernon. Kaeden also set her film in the Keystone State because “I didn’t want to make a film out of Pennsylvania and call it somewhere else.” \n\n\n\n\nShe can’t wait for this unique example of Western Pennsylvania-filmed folk horror to debut next week at The Lindsay. \n\n\n\n“We’re all about supporting independent filmmakers\,” Kaeden says. “Pennsylvania is very centered around independent filmmakers\, but it’s very special to have a venue that has these Emerging Filmmaker Showcases. As an independent filmmaker\, I feel very honored.”

He’s currently in residence as this semester’s Visiting Documentary Filmmaker at Robert Morris University. \n\n\n\nHe’ll be at The Lindsay on Thursday\, Nov. 7\, at 7 p.m. to share five of his documentary shorts as part of a specially curated Queering the Documentary program. Those screenings will be followed by a Q&A with O’Keefe. Tickets to this event are free\, but RSVPs are encouraged in advance due to space limitations. \n\n\n\n\nSome of O’Keefe’s films that will be screened on Nov. 7 include Our Transition\, which explores O’Keefe’s gender transition from his parents’ perspective; Imagine a Body\, an essay film on the spiritual nature of hormone replacement therapy for transgender men that premiered in 2022 as part of the The New Yorker Documentary Series; and No More Longing\, an immersive portrait of Brazilian musician Jaime Jobim that premiered at SFFilm in San Francisco. \n\n\n\n\n“It is a pleasure to work with our Visiting Documentary Filmmaker each fall semester\,” says Jen Stratakis\, RMU’s Arts & Humanities’ media outreach coordinator. “I have the privilege of helping each one connect with the RMU student body and greater Pittsburgh film community to share their work in a meaningful way. DESCRIPTION:Ninety percent of the public thinks America is having a mental health crisis\, according to the American Psychological Association. \n\n\n\nThis crisis includes anxiety\, depression\, eating disorders and much more\, says Benjamin Carlucci\, an award-winning filmmaker and Creative Director at the Strong Mind Project\, a local mental health awareness nonprofit. On Sunday\, Oct. 20\, from 5:30 to 9 p.m.\, The Lindsay will host the inaugural Strong Mind Showcase. \n\n\n\nThis free event features a pre-screening panel discussion with mental health professionals and advocates. Afterward\, two hours of short films\, separated by an intermission\, aim to promote empathy\, insight and understanding in the mental health space. \n\n\n\n“The Strong Mind Project is dedicated to cultivating conversations and raising awareness in the mental health space\,” says Carlucci\, a Squirrel Hill resident. “Our upcoming showcase will bring together talented artists with mental health professionals and advocates for the theme of ‘making the invisible\, visible.’” \n\n\n\nActivities begin at 5:45 p.m. with a panel discussion featuring Matt Walsh\, Oasis Mental Health’s co-founder and chief clinical officer; Listen Lucy CEO Jordan Corcoran; and artist Hayden Caico\, whose short film\, The Creature and Me\, will screen at the festival. \n\n\n\nFilm selections\, starting at 6:45 p.m.\, will share the best of more than 2\,000 submissions from 106 countries. She gains a following—including one fan who quickly takes things too far.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“The inspiration for Waltz came from my interest in what really makes a monster\,” says Maley.  “In a way\, we’re all monsters sometimes. We all do good and bad things\, and sometimes we do the bad things for a good reason\, or we do the good things for a bad reason.” \n\n\n\nMaley\, a Beaver County native\, attended Point Park University and Full Sail University in Florida before he founded Grimm Sleeper Productions in 2015. His first short\, the thriller 415\, earned four awards—including Audience Choice and Best Writing—at the Haunted Oaks Film Festival; was an official selection at the 2021 Moscow Gold Film Festival and the Bite Size Film Festival; and scored top awards at the Pittsburgh Moving Picture Festival’s 2023 Thriller Picture Show. \n\n\n\nThe trailer for Waltz received the Best Trailer Award at the 2023 Prodigy Film Fest. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWaltz is Maley’s first feature film\, and he always intended to premiere it at The Lindsay. \n\n\n\n“The experience of a cozy\, small-town theater just makes everything more enjoyable and feel less commercial\,” he says. “It was also important for me to screen my first feature close to home\, but in a central location easily accessible by my colleagues. DESCRIPTION:The Thriller Picture Show Returns to The Lindsay October 11 – 14        & October 24  \n\n\n\nIt wouldn’t be October without The Lindsay Theater and Cultural Center hosting one of this region’s premier showcases for independent filmmakers. \n\n\n\n\nThe Pittsburgh Moving Picture Festival is bringing its annual Thriller Picture Show to The Lindsay for the second year in a row. Later this month\, the Sewickley theater will be jammed with meticulously selected features and shorts spanning multiple genres. Some projects hail from local filmmakers\, and one was directed by none other than the late George Romero. \n\n\n\n“We are honored and thrilled to be returning to The Lindsay for the 2024 Thriller Picture Show\,” says Leigh Morrissey\, communications director for festival presenter Image 987 Productions. “Every year\, the festival has gotten bigger and better. Cocaine (and blood) flow freely when the cast and crew of a low-budget horror movie receive an unexpected visit from a blood-thirsty werewolf. Cocaine Werewolf features a gothic industrial rock soundtrack created specifically for this film by Cleopatra Records. That quintette has been inseparable since grade school—that is\, until Nick finally gets engaged to a woman named Victoria. From that moment\, he seems to change. As far as the other four are concerned\, driving a wedge through such a tight friendship is unforgivable. They begin joking about how they would kill Victoria in order to save Nick from making “the worst mistake of his life.” Are they just kidding around\, though? \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Phantoms\n\n\n\nThursday\, October 24 @ 8:15 P.M.\n\n\n\nAfter the death of their child\, a couple moves to a haunted house filled with ghosts. That’s not all lurking behind the house’s walls\, though. This 1892-set ghost story features performances from Michael Moriarty—a renowned actor with an Emmy\, Tony and Golden Globe under his belt—alongside veteran thespians Veronica Cartwright (Alien)\, Dale Dickey (A League of Their Own) and Raymond Barry (Sudden Death).

To survive the harsh environment\, Roz bonds with the island’s animals and cares for an orphaned baby goose. \n\n\n\n\n\nThe Lindsay\, which pioneered sensory friendly screenings northwest of Pittsburgh in 2017\, schedules these showings to be the only events in the Theater and provides adequate staffing to create an enjoyable\, low stress atmosphere for all attending. \n\n\n\nTickets are available online and at the door. The films are shown with lights up and volume down\, and patrons are free to move around the theater or talk during the screenings. DESCRIPTION:Buy Tickets\n\n\n\n\nThe Lindsay Theater and Cultural Center’s spooky October kicks off in style next week with an assist from a local group dedicated to the exhibition and preservation of silent films. \n\n\n\nThe Pittsburgh Silent Film Society is gearing up for its second-annual Pittsburgh Silent Film Festival\, which will take place across multiple Western Pennsylvania locales from Sept. 29-Oct. 6. The Lindsay will host a Pittsburgh Silent Film Festival screening of the 1924 horror classic The Hands of Orlac on Thursday\, Oct. 3\, at 7:30 p.m. \n\n\n\n\nThe screening will be accompanied by live music courtesy of the Pittsburgh Composers Quartet\, which consists of multi-talented musicians Ben Opie\, Patrick Breiner\, Adam Kantz and Mark Micchelli. \n\n\n\nThe Hands of Orlac stars Conrad Veidt as Paul Orlac\, a famous concert pianist who loses his hands in a terrible accident. A surgeon replaces his hands with those of an executed murderer. It’s not long before Orlac is convinced these newly obtained hands have imbued him with their previous owner’s desire to kill. \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n“The Lindsay serves as a venue for all kinds of cinema\, from new releases and documentaries to a silent psycho-thriller like The Hands of Orlac\,” says Lindsay CEO Carolina Thor. “We welcome audiences to time-travel with us to experience the silent—sometimes scary—film era.” \n\n\n\nDuring last year’s inaugural Pittsburgh Silent Film Festival\, the Theater hosted a sold-out screening of The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari\, a 1920 silent horror film that also stars Veidt and was also directed by Hands of Orlac helmer Robert Wiene. \n\n\n\n“The Pittsburgh Silent Film Festival is thrilled to team up again with The Lindsay and Ben Opie to present a 100th-anniversary screening of The Hands of Orlac\,” says Pittsburgh Silent Film Society founder Chad Hunter. “When the director and star of the silent masterpiece The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari collaborate again\, you know you are in for a classic\, twisted\, German expressionist treat.” \n\n\n\nAdds Thor: “We’re delighted to be partnering with the Pittsburgh Silent Film Society yet again to provide audiences with a rare opportunity to watch a classic film on the big screen\, with live music\, as it would have been seen 100 years ago.”
