SUMMARY:Mtn Craft Film Festival Winners Tour
DESCRIPTION:One of this region’s most unique film festivals is bringing last year’s winners to The Lindsay! \n\n\n\nThe Mtn Craft Film Festival takes place annually in West Virginia. It’s a celebration of all things Appalachia: film\, art\, and even locally brewed coffee and beer. Mtn Craft is currently on the road showing off last year’s winners at various locations throughout the region. \n\n\n\nThe only Winners Tour stop in Pennsylvania will be at The Lindsay on Thursday\, Sept. 10\, at 7:30 p.m. This program will feature six award-winning short films and a post-screening Q&A. Tickets are free\, and we recommend RSVPing in advance via the sign-up form below due to space limitations. \n\n\n\n“They are the cream of the crop\,” says festival director Ben Berry of 2025’s winners. “I think they’re a good example of Appalachian filmmaking because there’s such a variety in these films. You’ll see animation\, narrative and documentary works\, showcasing the storytelling that abounds in this region.” \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Mtn Craft Film Festival accepts films from all over Appalachia that “are meant to reach a broad audience in the entire region\,” says Berry. This six shorts screening at The Lindsay are: \n\n\n\n• The Ascent (Best Scripted Short\, 18min):  Jared’s escape into imagination blurs with the bitter reality of survival in this stark yet tender portrait of childhood\, resilience and the fragile refuge of dreams. It’s the first narrative short from Oscar-nominated documentarian Elaine McMillion Sheldon (King Coal). \n\n\n\n• Mountain Punk Arts (Best Documentary Short\, 15min): In rural Appalachia\, a few punks come together to re-establish a surprisingly familiar sense of community. Directed by Ethan Romaine. \n\n\n\n• Picture of a Lost Family (Best Student Short\, 15min): A woman visits her friend who stands frozen in time. Directed by Aram Riazi. \n\n\n\n• Ted and Toby Really Don’t Know (Best Animated Short\, 13min): Two queer (and anxious) young men get to know each other despite the oddness of their communication. Directed by Joshua White. \n\n\n\n• Capitol Limited (Best Experimental Short\, 2min): A wedding day\, a tragedy\, and an Amtrak train route are intertwined in this personal exploration of marriage and contemporary America. Directed by Pittsburgh-based filmmakers Lily Ekimian Ragheb and Ahmed T. Ragheb. \n\n\n\n• A Bottomless Reservoir of Joy (Mtn Craft Award\, 6min): A portrait of West Virginia-based nature illustrator Rosalie Haizlett. Directed by Curren Sheldon. \n\n\n\nThe 2026 Mtn Craft Film Festival will take place from Oct. 2-4 at the Robinson Grand Performing Arts Center in Clarksburg\, W.V. Berry believes “every film that plays at our festival deserves to be experienced in a movie theater with a live audience.” \n\n\n\n“I think the big screen is a large part of the magic of a film festival\,” he continues. “To see these films on a large screen with high-quality projection is something that not only draws the audience together\, but also gives the filmmakers the laurels that they deserve for putting in so much hard work.” \n\n\n\n \n\n \n \n Mtn Craft Film Festival Winners Tour Reservation Sign Up\n \n \n URLThis field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged.Name(Required)\n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n Number of Tickets(Required)Phone Number(Required)Email(Required)\n \n Any Special Accommodations (Seating Accessibility\, etc.)?

Join us on this enlightening and enriching journey! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nForever Young: A Bob Dylan Tribute\n\n\n\nNR | 1h 10min\n\n\n\nDirector: Len Caric\n\n\n\nStars: Joe Grushecky\, Billy Price\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nLast year\, iconic Pittsburgh musicians Joe Grushecky and Billy Price teamed up for a one-night-only show at Lawrenceville’s Thunderbird Café & Music Hall. The hook: They would exclusively be playing Bob Dylan songs. \n\n\n\nForever Young: A Bob Dylan Tribute is local filmmaker Len Caric’s documentary leading up to and capturing that magical evening in Pittsburgh’s long and storied musical history. \n\n\n\n“These are not young artists at the beginning of something—they are masters at the height of their wisdom and artistry. People need to see what great musicianship looks like\,” says Caric. \n\n\n\nHe interviews both musicians and puts their combined performing chops on glorious display. The film’s world premiere is on Aug. 30 at The Lindsay\, and its first theatrical run will be during our Documentary Series. \n\n\n\n“When do you ever get to see two living legends of your own hometown on the big screen?” posits Caric. “This is a chance to celebrate Pittsburgh’s own\, to feel proud of what this city produces and to experience music that genuinely means something.” \n\n\n\n\nDates and Showtimes for Forever Young\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nExhibition on Screen: David Hockney at the Royal Academy of Arts\n\n\n\nNR | 1h 425min\n\n\n\nDirector: Phil Grabsky\n\n\n\nStar: David Hockney\, Martin Gayford\, Tim Marlow\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nDavid Hockney\, a globally celebrated artist\, died earlier this year at age 88. The English painter “restored the human form to art\,” The New York Times declared in his obituary. \n\n\n\nThe Lindsay is honoring this late legend by bringing back Exhibition on Screen: David Hockney at the Royal Academy of Arts. Director Phil Grabsky focuses on two well-known exhibitions held in 2012 and 2016 at London’s Royal Academy of Arts. \n\n\n\nThe film offers a fresh look at many Hockney originals and in-depth interviews with the man himself. \n\n\n\nHockney’s unequivocal talent delivers a “splash of spring to make hearts soar\,” raves The Times. “This illuminating documentary portrait” immortalizes “a master in sharp focus\,” praises The Guardian. \n\n\n\n“There’s copious interview material with the artist. … Hockney comes across as an ever-enthusiastic\, always curious figure\, forever concerned with painting and how to make his marks on the canvas.” \n\n\n\n\nDates and Showtimes for David Hockney\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDeepfaking Sam Altman\n\n\n\nNR | 1h 33min\n\n\n\nDirector: Adam Bhala Lough\n\n\n\nStars: Adam Bhala Lough\, Divyendra Singh Jadoun\, Kara Swisher\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nAdam Bhala Lough found himself at a crossroads. The filmmaker’s many attempts to interview OpenAI CEO Sam Altman had failed. To save his documentary\, Lough decided to create and interview an AI facsimile of Altman. \n\n\n\nThat’s how “Sam Bot” was born and became the driving force behind Deepfaking Sam Altman. This absurd premise is both comedy gold and an avenue for bigger questions about humanity’s relationship with AI. \n\n\n\n“Give Lough credit: His film simultaneously illustrates the deficiencies of generative AI and the dangers of investing in it emotionally\, while remaining … self-amused in a distinctly human way\,” writes The New York Times. \n\n\n\nLough’s musings about whether he is actually forming a real attachment to “Sam Bot” provides the heart of this “sardonic and surprisingly sweet look at the burgeoning influence of ChatGPT\,” applauds ScreenRant. \n\n\n\nRolling Stone adds: “Deepfaking Sam Altman is a globe-trotting\, thought-provoking\, utterly surreal exploration of how far today’s AI can be pushed and whether it can ever really substitute for human ingenuity.” \n\n\n\n\nDates and Showtimes for Deepfaking Sam Altman\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn Our Nature\n\n\n\nNR | 60min\n\n\n\nDirector: James Parker\n\n\n\nStars: Hannah Bodham Blackwell\, Quilen Blackwell\, Richard Louv\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nAmerican children are averaging mere minutes outside every day and hours staring at screens. This has led to increases in obesity\, isolation and other unhealthy habits continuing into adulthood. \n\n\n\nIn Our Nature attempts to address this growing problem by showing the efforts being made to give kids information information and resources to take advantage of the great outdoors. \n\n\n\nYou’ll find out how Southside Blooms in Chicago\, Red Oak Forest School in Kentucky and Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS) in San Antonio are creating green-space access for local youths. \n\n\n\nDirector James Parker’s film “serves as a tool that reminds viewers of their place on the planet and how crucial it is that they understand and preserve the nature around them\,” compliments The Washington Informer. \n\n\n\nWe hear in the film: “The stakes are whether we want our kids and future generations to be more alive or less alive. It’s kind of that fundamental.” \n\n\n\n\nDates and Showtimes for In Our Nature\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMary Oliver: Saved by the Beauty of the World\n\n\n\nNR | 1h 31min\n\n\n\nDirector: Sasha Waters\n\n\n\nStars: Mary Oliver\, Helena Bonham Carter\, Steve Buscemi\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n“Tell me\, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?” That’s a line from Mary Oliver’s poem The Summer Day\, which was part of a collection that won the 1992 National Book Award. \n\n\n\nYou’ll learn exactly how she spent her extraordinary life after watching Mary Oliver: Saved by the Beauty of the World. The Pulitzer Prize-winning poet attained universal acclaim during her long career. \n\n\n\nFamous figures such as Stephen Colbert\, Oprah Winfrey\, Helena Bonham Carter and Steve Buscemi recite a few of Oliver’s most beloved poems. You’ll also hear from her close friends\, including filmmaker John Waters. \n\n\n\nViewers will be “moved by the film’s soft nature that mirrors Oliver’s practice and mind\,” proclaims RogerEbert.com. It “makes an affecting case for her work and gives us a vivid look at her world\,” lauds The Wall Street Journal. \n\n\n\n“It’s an entertaining bio-doc that puts due emphasis on Oliver’s writing\, in all its elegant and empathetic simplicity.” \n\n\n\n\nDates and Showtimes for Mary Oliver\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTwo Strangers Trying Not to Kill Each Other\n\n\n\nNR | 1h 40min\n\n\n\nDirectors: Manon Ouimet\, Jacob Perlmutter\n\n\n\nStars: Maggie Barrett\, Joel Meyerowitz\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nMaggie Barrett\, a struggling novelist\, and Joel Meyerowitz\, a successful photographer\, met later in life\, fell in love and married. Now in their golden years\, the couple grapples with creative fulfillment and their own mortalities. \n\n\n\nTwo Strangers Trying Not to Kill Each Other documents their ever-evolving love story to an inflection point when Joel\, 84\, is tasked with taking care of Maggie\, 75\, after she breaks her femur. \n\n\n\nDirectors Manon Ouimet and Jacob Perlmutter capture the couple’s shared joys and festering resentments during this particularly raw time. Hard truths are shared as Maggie and Joel search for collective and individual peace. \n\n\n\n“Watching the two navigate the unknown with such frankness is part of what makes this documentary engaging\,” praises Next Best Picture. It succeeds at “capturing the tiny nuances that add up to make a life\,” commends Variety. \n\n\n\n“Barrett and Meyerowitz open up their relationship honestly\, inviting curious eyes without any vanity on their part. Perlmutter and Ouimet’s observational filmmaking is attuned to capturing the nuances that make this story intriguing.” \n\n\n\nNote: The Thursday\, Sept. 24\, screening at 1 p.m. kicks off the Valley Care Foundation Aging Seniors Series at The Lindsay. Tickets for this special screening and associated event\, courtesy of the Valley Care Foundation\, are free to seniors 55 plus. Details to come! \n\n\n\n\nDates and Showtimes for Two Strangers\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA Life Illuminated\n\n\n\nNR | 1h 29min\n\n\n\nDirector: Tasha Van Zandt\n\n\n\nStar: Edith Widder\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nEdith Widder has always believed that the bottom of the ocean would be less scary if we could simply see it. Her pioneering marine bioluminescence work has enabled us to witness some of this planet’s most wondrous residents. \n\n\n\nA Life Illuminated spotlights Widder and her ongoing quest to communicate with Earth’s most mysterious creatures using the language of light. As she says while embarking on one underwater voyage\, “I never get tired of this.” \n\n\n\nDirector Tasha Van Zandt follows Widder on these descents into the ocean’s depths\, where she obtained astonishing footage of rarely seen marine life in their natural habitats. \n\n\n\n“The film serves as a notably feminist tribute to Dr. Widder as she does for marine life what Jane Goodall did for primates\,” writes POV Magazine. “A Life Illuminated builds a rousing story of persevering in the face of adversity.” \n\n\n\nIndieWire adds: “That compulsion—a genuine\, profound desire to share her findings with the world—makes for a classic\, stick-to-your ribs documentary experience about a fascinating person.” \n\n\n\n\nDates and Showtimes for A Life Illuminated\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAmerican Doctor\n\n\n\nNR | 1h 33min\n\n\n\nDirector: Poh Si Teng\n\n\n\nStars: Thaer Ahmad\, Mark Perlmutter\, Feroze Sidhwa\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThree U.S. physicians—one Jewish\, one Palestinian and one Zoroastrian—volunteer in Gaza. \n\n\n\nAmerican Doctor takes viewers into severely under-resourced hospitals and operating rooms in that region. The doctors put their expertise to the test in order to save the wounded and refuse to stay silent upon returning home. \n\n\n\n“The hospital scenes are the film’s heart\, and they have an immediacy that the interspersed footage of the doctors at home in the United States cannot match\,” writes The New York Times. \n\n\n\nThis “vital documentary” is propelled by “tremendously effective experts from different walks of life\,” applauds Collider. Every American should see “director Poh Si Teng’s unflinching new exposé\,” proclaims The Hollywood Reporter. \n\n\n\n“What makes American Doctor stand out is how it eschews the bigger picture to focus primarily on the practical. … What makes American Doctor so powerful is the way it reveals the shared humanity of physicians and patients in the face of death.” \n\n\n\n\nDates and Showtimes for American Doctor\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNR | 1h 15min\n\n\n\nDirector: Raeshem Nijhon\n\n\n\nStar: Reshma Saujani\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nMotherhood can feel impossible\, especially with social media trying to label women as either a “girl boss” or “tradwife.” Culture wars distract from the systems that make it difficult for many American mothers to feel supported. \n\n\n\nNo Country for Mothers follows Reshma Saujani\, CEO and founder of national nonprofit Moms First\, as she guides audiences through the past and present of American motherhood. \n\n\n\n“We’ve been intentionally divided and distracted through culture wars\, and mostly I think a lot by politicians\,” Saujani tells The Guardian. “I think that the only way to beat back the culture wars is to get moms to come together.” \n\n\n\nNo Country for Mothers feels like “an antidote to the isolation many mothers may be feeling and the larger cultural divides that are separating mothers\,” raves Forbes. \n\n\n\nSaujani tells The Guardian: “They know that the moment that we choose our power over their blame\, it’s over for them. This film is gasoline\, and we are the match.” \n\n\n\nNote: For the screening on Wednesday\, Sept. 23 at 6:30 p.m.\, Pittsburgh Today Live co-host Heather Abraham and YaJagoff! co-founder Rachael Rennebeck will introduce the show and lead a post-screening panel discussion.  \n\n\n\n\nDates and Showtimes for No Country for Mothers

SUMMARY:JMQ Pictures Showcase
DESCRIPTION:Local filmmaker Jameson Quinn is returning to The Lindsay with two stellar shorts and a pulse-pounding television pilot. \n\n\n\nThe Lindsay’s latest Emerging Filmmakers Showcase features three locally made projects created by Quinn’s production company\, JMQ Pictures. We will screen Sandman (14 minutes)\, about a boxer making a comeback; Empty (15 minutes)\, a detective noir; and Cornered (18 minutes)\, a TV pilot following one DEA agent’s efforts to capture a drug ring and avenge his friend’s death. \n\n\n\nThe JMQ Pictures Showcase will take place on Thursday\, Sept. 17\, at 7:30 p.m. Quinn will lead an in-person Q&A immediately following the screening. Tickets are free\, and RSVPs are recommended in advance via the below sign-up form due to space limitations. \n\n\n\n“We would love to see Western Pennsylvanians come out and see these films on the big screen\,” says Quinn. “They’ll gain a more accurate understanding of why Pittsburgh is such a great contributor to the world of cinema.” \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nQuinn spent his formative years in Brookline writing\, playing ice hockey and competing as an amateur boxer. He is now living his dream as a professional actor and filmmaker. Last year\, Quinn introduced himself to Lindsay audiences by showing the boxing drama Strange Angels. \n\n\n\nCornered was inspired by classic action-thrillers like Die Hard and The Bourne Identity. “I wanted to create a series that moves quickly and embodies dramatic action while keeping viewers invested in its characters and their emotional space\,” says Quinn. \n\n\n\nSandman\, Empty and Cornered were all filmed in the Pittsburgh area with local actors and crews. Quinn wrote and stars in all three films. He also directed Cornered and Empty. \n\n\n\n“I believe that Western Pennsylvanians should be excited to see Pittsburgh showcased and highlighted\,” says Quinn. “It’s a great feeling to bring these films back home where it all began.” \n\n\n\n\n \n \n Emerging Filmmakers Showcase JMQ Pictures Showcase Reservation Sign Up\n \n \n FacebookThis field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged.Name(Required)\n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n Number of Tickets(Required)Phone Number(Required)Email(Required)\n \n Any Special Accommodations (Seating Accessibility\, etc.)?
