SUMMARY:Emerging Filmmakers Showcase: 'I: Scream—A Minty Musical'
DESCRIPTION:The Lindsay’s final Emerging Filmmakers Showcase in January is a deliciously fun musical made by a local filmmaking power couple. \n\n\n\nI: Scream—A Minty Musical was directed by Aleen Isley and written by Isley with her husband\, Steve Rudzinski. The film\, which was partially shot in Sewickley\, follows a scientist’s desperate efforts to stop living ice cream from devouring everything in sight. \n\n\n\nIsley and Rudzinski’s latest cinematic treat will play at The Lindsay on Thursday\, Jan. 22\, at 7 p.m. It will be proceeded by a selection of trailers and music videos celebrating the 15th anniversary of their production company\, Silver Spotlight Films. The screening will be immediately followed by a filmmaker Q&A. This event is free\, though we recommend RSVPing via the below sign-up form due to space limitations. \n\n\n\n“What sets I: Scream apart from other locally made horror comedies is its musical format\,” says Isley. “It’s sure to get your toes tapping and leave a long-lasting ear worm when you leave the theater.” \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nI: Scream features six original songs written by Isley and composed by Mike Trebilcock. They help tell the story of Charlie (B. Barnabei)\, a scientist who’s hopelessly in love with their childhood friend\, Logainne (Marie Taylor). \n\n\n\nOne night\, some experimental\, DNA-altering chemicals fall into a mint chocolate chip treat\, causing it to gain sentience. “Minty” has one desire: eat everything it can. It’s up to Charlie\, their friend Sean (Alex Hazen) and Reggie the retired ice cream purveyor (David Dietz) to save Logainne and end Minty’s reign of terror. \n\n\n\nIsley filmed I: Scream during summer 2025 throughout this region with a largely Western Pennsylvania-based cast. Audiences may recognize Pittsburgh-adjacent businesses such as Technique by Toni Dance Studio\, Scoops Ice Cream in Sewickley and the Riverside Drive In Theatre in Vandergrift. \n\n\n\n“Our town may be known for its sports teams\, but it also boasts a cultural smelting of the arts\,” Isley says. “I: Scream is another new work presented by a home-grown Pittsburgh director who could really use your support.” \n\n\n\nIsley and Rudzinski have made 15-plus films together—mostly in the Pittsburgh area—since 2011. Josh Axelrod\, The Lindsay’s Director of Communications and an active PFCA member\, will also participate in this discussion. \n\n\n\nThis free\, non-ticketed event will take place in The Lindsay’s Community Room on Sunday\, Feb. 15\, at 2 p.m. These professional critics and journalists will provide their thoughts on this year’s Oscars race\, films that seem to be over- or underperforming with voters\, their ideal Oscars scenarios and much more. \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nAudience members will have the opportunity to ask questions and engage in conversation with some of this region’s most prominent film aficionados. \n\n\n\nLindsey Bahr has been an Associated Press film writer and critic since 2014. This Pittsburgh native is a regular at Hollywood’s glitziest awards shows. Bahr covered the 2025 Oscars live from Los Angeles’ Dolby Theatre. She plans to be there for this year’s ceremony as well. \n\n\n\nSean Collier is the editor-in-chief of Shady Ave Magazine. He spent 15 years with Pittsburgh Magazine\, most recently serving as its managing editor and chief film critic. He’s also a stand-up comic\, co-founder of Vigilance Theater Group\, co-host of The Number One Movie in America podcast\, and a regular on WDVE and Pittsburgh Today Live. \n\n\n\nMegan McLachlan\, a former Awards Daily contributor\, recently co-founded the awards advocacy site The Contending. Her work also has appeared in Buzzfeed\, Cosmopolitan\, The Cut\, Paste\, Thrillist\, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and The Washington Post. \n\n\n\nThe Pittsburgh Film Critics Association\, formed in 2023 by 15 Western Pennsylvania-based critics\, announced its second annual film awards earlier this year. Their Best Picture prize went to Sinners\, writer-director Ryan Coogler’s Southern vampire thriller that was recently nominated for a record-breaking 16 Academy Awards. \n\n\n\nTalking with these critics might prove helpful for anyone planning to enter The Lindsay’s annual Oscars Contest. Thirteen British colonies on the Atlantic Coast rose in rebellion\, won their independence\, and established a new form of government that radically reshaped the continent and inspired centuries of democratic movements around the globe. \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThe American Revolution currently has a 96% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes. It joins other Burns-created docuseries about pivotal domestic and international conflicts such as 1990’s The Civil War\, 2007’s The War (about Americans fighting in World War II) and 2017’s The Vietnam War.  \n\n\n\nThe Sewickley Valley Historical Society is celebrating the United States’ 250th birthday by showing three thematically linked films at The Lindsay in 2026. The American Revolution will kick off this series. \n\n\n\nIt will be followed by history-based musical 1776 on Thursday\, March 26\, at 6:30 p.m. This series’ grand finale will be sci-fi comedy The Spirit of ’76 on Thursday\, April 30\, at 7 p.m.

DESCRIPTION:Both showtimes have sold out\, please stay tuned for updates on future showings. \n\n\n\n\nThe Lindsay’s next Emerging Filmmakers Showcase is an exciting documentary about a beloved Sewickley family and institution. \n\n\n\nBeneath the Sole focuses on Mario Ulizzi\, who opened Sewickley Shoe Repair in 1999 and remains its owner. Director Ryan Rust paints an intimate portrait of a beloved local craftsman whose spirit is restored by the community whose shoes he fixes. \n\n\n\nThis 30-minute documentary will play twice at The Lindsay on Sunday\, March 22. You can RSVP for either a 1 p.m. or 2:20 p.m. showtime. Both screenings are free and will be followed by a Q&A with Rust\, Ulizzi and producer Krystle Gandy. \n\n\n\n“This premiere is a celebration of the Sewickley community\,” says Rust\, of Moon Township. “And it now comes full circle\, premiering at the best theater in Pittsburgh!” \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nRust and his wife\, Caitlin\, moved to Moon about four years ago. They love grabbing coffee and walking around Sewickley on a lovely spring\, summer or fall day. During one of those excursions\, Caitlin pointed out Sewickley Shoe Repair and told her husband\, “You should tell their story.” \n\n\n\nIt didn’t take much research to convince Rust that Ulizzi and Sewickley Shoe Repair could be fascinating documentary subjects. He reached out to Sewickley Shoe Repair in March 2025 and quickly established contact with Ulizzi and his wife\, Carla. \n\n\n\n“If you ask anyone in town\, Mario has a unique way of connecting with people\,” says Rust. “From the moment we first met to discuss the idea of telling his story\, I just had a feeling it was going to be a great one. I have only known Mario for almost a year\, and I feel like I have known him my whole life.” \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nProduction began in July 2025\, and the film was completed late last year. Rust credited Grandy\, also the board president of Women in Film & Media Pittsburgh\, and Beneath the Sole‘s crew for their instrumental roles in bringing this project to fruition. \n\n\n\nRust is no stranger to The Lindsay. His documentary HIVE\, about a Pittsburgh-area beekeeper\, played here in 2024 as part of the Theater’s Emerging Filmmakers Showcase. He’s looking forward to showing his latest film in a venue that “truly holds a special place in my heart.” \n\n\n\nBeneath the Sole will start streaming on WQED+ the day after its Lindsay premiere. Rust hopes that everyone will check out this testament to “how a community can touch someone’s life in so many ways.” \n\n\n\n“The world is always pushing to shop and buy local\,” he says. “Sewickley is a town where you can do all that and even catch a movie! The audience will walk away with a deeper understanding behind the craft of shoe repair. … I truly hope that after people see this film\, they look for their local shoe repair shop.”

DESCRIPTION:The Lindsay’s second Emerging Filmmakers Showcase in March is a local documentarian’s enlightening new film about a hardcore musician’s spiritual transformation. \n\n\n\nSomething Divine is a globe-trotting documentary centered around Raghunath\, aka Youth of Today and Shelter lead singer Ray Cappo. This straight-edge hardcore icon embarked on a life-changing journey to India at the height of his musical popularity. Raghunath guides director Thomas Essig on an excursion throughout India while exploring how his punk and monk identities can exist together in spiritual harmony. \n\n\n\nThe public premiere of Something Divine will take place at The Lindsay on Sunday\, March 29\, at 1 p.m. Essig\, a Butler County-based filmmaker\, will be at the Theater for an in-person Q&A following the screening. Tickets are free\, and we recommend reserving seats in advance via the below RSVP form due to space limitations. \n\n\n\n“The film is designed to make you feel like you are in India and in those venues with Youth of Today and Shelter\,” says Essig. “This is not your typical spirituality documentary. It’s just truth. There is no one sitting on a mountain telling you the secret to life\, however you may find your truth.” \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEssig is a New York City native who first moved to Butler in 1992. He went back to the Empire State in 1999 and didn’t return to Western Pennsylvania until 2022. His film career kicked off in 2017. Music was Essig’s first love\, and his resumé includes serving as the drummer for Pittsburgh band The Prestons in the mid-1990s.  \n\n\n\nBefore Something Divine\, Essig knew Raghunath only as a local yoga teacher in the Hudson\, N.Y.\, area. A former girlfriend went on a pilgrimage to India with Raghunath in 2016\, and she informed Essig about his rock-star alter ego. \n\n\n\n“I had no idea!” recalls Essig. “She described how hardcore punk fans\, yoga students and regular Joes went to India to participate in spiritual practices. I found it fascinating that people from all walks of life come together for a two-week trip diving into spirituality.” \n\n\n\nHe remembered flippantly saying at the time\, “How come nobody has ever made a movie about this?” After going on his first pilgrimage to India with Raghunath in 2017\, Essig realized that this experience allowed lost souls to seek their own “connection to the divine.” Essig has now made nine trips to India. \n\n\n\nSomething Divine was filmed in 2019 and has since played at festivals and private screenings. The Lindsay is hosting the film’s first public theatrical showing. Its PVOD release is set for March 27 on platforms such as Prime Video\, Apple TV and Roku. \n\n\n\nEssig appreciates The Lindsay for “bringing independent film to the community” with programs like the Theater’s Emerging Filmmakers Showcase. This event is free\, and we recommend RSVPing in advance via the sign-up form below due to space limitations. \n\n\n\nWomen in Film & Media Pittsburgh is a local nonprofit that’s dedicated to improving the status and portrayal of women in film\, video and other screen-based media. They regularly host events and organize programs that aim to empower\, promote\, support and mentor women in the Pittsburgh region with filmmaking ambitions. \n\n\n\n“One of the things I love about Pittsburgh is the strong and diverse independent film community we have here\,” says Wendy Whittick\, a local filmmaker and WIFM board secretary. “In particular\, the quality and depth of the films produced by women in Pittsburgh is inspiring. DESCRIPTION:The Lindsay’s second Emerging Filmmakers Showcase in April is a genre-mashing comedy that was made on a grander scaler than most locally shot independent films. \n\n\n\nThe Haunting of Prince Dom Pedro was conceived and written by Joe Fishel\, of Butler\, and directed by Don Swanson\, of Ebensburg. This film takes several film genres\, from supernatural mysteries to rom coms\, and combines them to form a modern-day fairytale about a group of high school Latin American history students who quickly regret their decision to not fully appreciate the Liberator of Brazil. \n\n\n\nFishel and Swanson’s film will have its Pittsburgh premiere at The Lindsay on Thursday\, April 16\, at 7 p.m. The 83-minute screening will be immediately followed by a filmmaker Q&A. Tickets are free\, and we recommend RSVPing via the sign-up form below due to space limitations. \n\n\n\n“The Haunting of Prince Dom Pedro is a fun\, quirky movie that is very entertaining\,” says Fishel. “It has been described as a Scooby-Doo movie without the big dog.” \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDom Pedro was a Portuguese prince who became Brazil’s first ruler in the early 19th century. Fishel\, a longtime staple of this region’s film industry\, conceived of The Haunting of Prince Dom Pedro after thinking about the worst-case scenario if high school students ignored their teacher’s plea to take their studies seriously. \n\n\n\nThat initial idea evolved into a family-friendly romp that blends comedy\, mystery\, light horror\, romance\, teen shenanigans\, martial arts\, crime capers\, historical drama\, musicals—and even Bigfoot. \n\n\n\nFilming took place across six Western Pennsylvania counties and one Ohio county. Dom Pedro was edited by Jamie Lockhart\, of Bellevue\, and stars Rachel O’Day\, of Saltsburg\, and Madeline Schlichter\, of Indiana Township\, as high-schoolers “Jayden and Kayden.” \n\n\n\nOne particularly unique aspect of Dom Pedro‘s production was its designation as a SAG-AFTRA micro-budget feature. That program is available to projects made for $20\,000 or less\, and it gave Fishel and company the green light to increase the scope of their modestly budgeted endeavor. \n\n\n\n“There were more than 160 people as part of the cast and crew\, and more than 150 of them appeared in front of the camera\,” explains Fishel. “That’s a huge number for a locally filmed indie.” \n\n\n\nThere are so many familiar places and faces in Dom Pedro that filmgoers will likely recognize at least one location or actor. This screening will be immediately followed by a guest speaker discussion and Q&A. \n\n\n\nThe Spirit of ’76 begins after a magnetic storm in 2176 has erased all recorded history—including the U.S. Constitution. Three time-travelers are sent back to July 4\, 1776\, to retrieve their heritage\, but end up being perceived as aliens in 1976. \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nReiner co-wrote The Spirit of ’76 with Roman Coppola\, son of famed director Francis Ford Coppola. The film features performances from Lucas’ father\, Hollywood legend Carl Reiner; his brother\, famed writer-director Rob Reiner; David Cassidy (The Partridge Family); Olivia d’Abo (The Wonder Years); and rock groups Redd Kross and Devo. \n\n\n\nThe Sewickley Valley Historical Society is celebrating the United States’ 250th birthday by showing three thematically linked films at The Lindsay in 2026. The Spirit of ’76 will be the final screening in this series. \n\n\n\nIt will kick off on Thursday\, Feb. 26\, at 7 p.m. with a 45-minute version of Ken Burns’ acclaimed The American Revolution docuseries. SUMMARY:Emerging Filmmakers Showcase: 'Cobblestoned'
DESCRIPTION:The Lindsay’s next Emerging Filmmakers Showcase is a feature-length version of a locally made web series about two slackers solving paranormal mysteries. \n\n\n\nCobblestoned was written and directed by Pittsburghers Erick Rigby and Reese Hayes. The duo behind regionally based production company Dashing Agent spent five years turning seven web episodes into an almost 2 1/2-hour romp inspired by personal favorites such as The X-Files\, Twin Peaks and Sam Raimi’s eclectic filmography. \n\n\n\nRigby and Hayes will premiere Cobblestoned at The Lindsay on Thursday\, May 14\, at 7 p.m. The screening will be followed immediately by an in-person filmmaker Q&A. Tickets are free\, but we recommend RSVPing via the below sign-up form due to space limitations. \n\n\n\n“The whole intention was to be creative and make something fun\,” says Hayes. “I think because we went in with that spirit\, it ended up being great!” \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHayes grew up in Potter County and moved to Pittsburgh in 2015. He met Rigby while casting for a short\, and they soon began working on web-exclusive films and shows. During that time\, Hayes landed a production assistant job on the locally filmed Netflix series Mindhunter. \n\n\n\nWhile working on Mindhunter\, Hayes “wanted something to keep us creative” when he wasn’t on set. That’s when Hayes and Rigby started collaborating on Cobblestoned\, in which they also star as substance-abusing roommates who become paranormal detectives after stumbling across a polaroid of a missing woman. \n\n\n\nThe fictional Hayes and Rigby might not be the most competent duo to solve the case\, but when it comes to monsters\, ghouls and alternate dimensions\, no one is more up for the task than these two idiots. \n\n\n\n“It never takes itself too seriously\,” says Hayes. “It blends a lot of genres. We were always trying to make each other laugh. There are some really goofy moments in there that stand up really well.” \n\n\n\nMost Cobblestoned episodes were linked to a Pennsylvania urban legend\, such as Philadelphia’s Bus to Nowhere and York’s Seven Gates of Hell. Hayes and Rigby released their web series on YouTube with the intent of eventually adapting it into a film. They eventually shot interstitials to help weave their web series into a single story. \n\n\n\nCobblestoned was largely filmed in Pittsburgh’s East End\, particularly Squirrel Hill\, Shadyside and Regent Square. Though Hayes said that most production work was done by “me\, Erick and a tripod\,” they received a ton of support from this region’s entertainment community who were willing to embrace their film’s DIY spirit. \n\n\n\n“It became more of a community-building project as it went on\,” he said. “We made a lot of friends and got a lot of help that way. PCMC president Wendy Whittick will provide a special introduction prior to the screening. \n\n\n\nCukor’s career spanned five decades and also included 1940’s The Philadelphia Story\, 1944’s Gaslight\, 1954’s A Star is Born remake and 1964’s My Fair Lady—for which he won a Best Director Oscar. \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nIn Dinner at Eight\, affluent Millicent (Billie Burke) and Oliver Jordan (Lionel Barrymore) throw a dinner for a handful of wealthy and/or well-born acquaintances\, each of whom has much to reveal.
