His film delves into the significant contributions of Black collectors\, artists\, writers and creators from the Golden Age of comics through today. \n\n\n\nCollections in Black will play at The Lindsay on Thursday\, June 18\, at 7:30 p.m. Thompson will display a few physical examples of Black excellence in this genre and lead an in-person Q&A following the screening. Tickets are free\, and we recommend RSVPing via the the below sign-up form due to space limitations. \n\n\n\n“This documentary was important to me because there hasn’t been anything like it\,” says Thompson. “I’ve been a fan of comics and comic collecting all my life. For me\, the most important thing in this was to make sure we got the history right\, because I felt like that is something that isn’t always done.” \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThompson is a Penn Hills native and accomplished DJ\, music producer\, filmmaker and art curator. The 33 and a Third Media founder has been working in the documentary space for more than 25 years. The Archive\, his first film that showcases Pittsburgh’s hip-hop landscape\, premiered in 2000 at the Andy Warhol Museum. \n\n\n\nAn abridged version of Collections in Black featured in an art exhibition that also displayed an unprecedented amount of artwork\, unique items and other artifacts representing Black comic book culture. This talk will begin at 7:30 p.m.\, and the showing will start promptly at 8 p.m. He’ll discuss his career\, a steadicam operator’s actual job description and what it’s like to shoot a Spielberg film. \n\n\n\nDisclosure Day is Spielberg’s return to extraterrestrial-related cinema. The film’s title refers to a potential turning point in human history brought about by a whistleblower’s efforts to unravel a massive government conspiracy and reveal the existence of alien life. This highly anticipated summer release stars Emily Blunt\, Josh O’Connor\, Colman Domingo and Colin Firth. \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nMoyer is a Sewickley Academy and Ithaca College graduate who has been working in the camera departments of major film and television productions since the late 1980s. His long list of credits includes 1995’s Sudden Death\, 1999’s Dogma\, 2006’s Rocky Balboa\, the HBO drama Boardwalk Empire\, 2012’s The Avengers\, 2017’s The Post\, 2021’s In the Heights and 2025’s The Housemaid. \n\n\n\nHe has previously regaled Lindsay audiences with stories from his time on the sets of 2021’s West Side Story remake\, 2023’s Pittsburgh-shot dramedy A Man Called Otto and this year’s The Devil Wears Prada 2. We will screen Sandman (14 minutes)\, about a boxer making a comeback; Empty (15 minutes)\, a detective noir; and Cornered (18 minutes)\, a TV pilot following one DEA agent’s efforts to capture a drug ring and avenge his friend’s death. \n\n\n\nThe JMQ Pictures Showcase will take place on Thursday\, Sept. 17\, at 7:30 p.m. Quinn will lead an in-person Q&A immediately following the screening. Tickets are free\, and RSVPs are recommended in advance via the below sign-up form due to space limitations. \n\n\n\n“We would love to see Western Pennsylvanians come out and see these films on the big screen\,” says Quinn. “They’ll gain a more accurate understanding of why Pittsburgh is such a great contributor to the world of cinema.” \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nQuinn spent his formative years in Brookline writing\, playing ice hockey and competing as an amateur boxer. He is now living his dream as a professional actor and filmmaker. Last year\, Quinn introduced himself to Lindsay audiences by showing the boxing drama Strange Angels. \n\n\n\nCornered was inspired by classic action-thrillers like Die Hard and The Bourne Identity. “I wanted to create a series that moves quickly and embodies dramatic action while keeping viewers invested in its characters and their emotional space\,” says Quinn. \n\n\n\nSandman\, Empty and Cornered were all filmed in the Pittsburgh area with local actors and crews. Quinn wrote and stars in all three films.
