DESCRIPTION:The Lindsay is celebrating the many talented women in Pittsburgh’s film community with a special evening dedicated to their filmmaking prowess. \n\n\n\nThe Women in Film & Media Pittsburgh Showcase will take place here on Thursday\, April 9\, at 7 p.m. This event will feature screenings of 13 shorts from 11 local filmmakers. They will be immediately followed by a Q&A with the auteurs in attendance. This event is free\, and we recommend RSVPing in advance via the sign-up form below due to space limitations. \n\n\n\nWomen in Film & Media Pittsburgh is a local nonprofit that’s dedicated to improving the status and portrayal of women in film\, video and other screen-based media. They regularly host events and organize programs that aim to empower\, promote\, support and mentor women in the Pittsburgh region with filmmaking ambitions. \n\n\n\n“One of the things I love about Pittsburgh is the strong and diverse independent film community we have here\,” says Wendy Whittick\, a local filmmaker and WIFM board secretary. “In particular\, the quality and depth of the films produced by women in Pittsburgh is inspiring. I’m proud to have the opportunity to share their work.” \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHere’s a rundown of the 13 films that will play during this showcase: \n\n\n\n• A Girl Takes a Walk in the Forest (5 min): This film documents the production of a collaborative animation project between a mother and her elementary-age child. Directed by Kristen Lauth Schaeffer & Ro Shaeffer. \n\n\n\n• A Mother’s Muse (7 min): This short documentary spotlights women as natural artists by focusing on four generations of director Genesis Nelson’s family. \n\n\n\n• B*tch for Council (4 min): After seeing a ridiculous political sign in his yard\, Andy lets his friends convince him—a 16-year-old high schooler—to run for city council. Directed by Mikie Palermo. \n\n\n\n• Chasing Infinity (9 min): A teacher discovers a mysterious CB radio transmission from the 1950s that mayunravel time and space. Produced by Haley Jenkins. \n\n\n\n• Connie Amongi (6 min): Connie Amongi tells her life story\, including how a Ugandan extremist group upended her childhood and what a local nonprofit did to keep her safe and educated. Directed by Pauline Greenlick. \n\n\n\n• Dark and Stormy (2 min): A thunderous storm wakes Alex from his deep sleep\, and he quickly realizes that there may be a dark figure lurking in the corner of his room. Directed by Lauren Keller. \n\n\n\n• Edges (4 min): A widow grieves the loss of her husband through their shared holiday tradition of makinggingerbread houses. Directed by Delaney Hathaway. \n\n\n\n• Embracing Their Reality (5 min): This film highlights the real life struggles of caregiving for a loved one with dementia—and a better way forward. Directed by Jessica Wasserlauf. \n\n\n\n• Hammer Handed Hitchhiker (8 min): A group of teens encounter a deadly urban legend while on spring break—and find out what it means to really get hammered. Directed by Alyssa Pearson. \n\n\n\n• Last Cup of Coffee (12 min): A hitman is faced with an unpleasant task when he is asked to kill his longtime friend. Directed by Wendy Whittick. \n\n\n\n• One Day in the Life of Eddy (2 min): Eddy is a brave and determined young boy who is also one of 2 million people with a physical disability in Uganda. Directed by Pauline Greenlick. \n\n\n\n• Opio (5 min): Opio is another survivor of the Lord’s Resistance Army civil war in northern Uganda who\, like Connie Amongi\, was also rescued by Bright Kids Uganda. Directed by Pauline Greenlick. \n\n\n\n• She’s Great! (8 min): A young woman tries her best to stay present and keep burnout at bay. The Lindsay wants to ensure that everyone is able to watch his second big-screen adventure! \n\n\n\nWe’re hosting a sensory friendly Super Mario Galaxy screening on Saturday\, April 11\, at 10 a.m. Tickets for this showing are on sale for our discounted rate of $8.75. \n\n\n\nThe Super Mario Galaxy Movie\, which starts playing at The Lindsay on April 1\, finds Mario venturing into space to explore cosmic worlds and tackle galactic challenges far from the familiar Mushroom Kingdom. \n\n\n\nMario\, Luigi\, Peach and their friends encounter new allies like Princess Rosalina and Yoshi the friendly dinosaur—as well as enemies such as the vengeful Bowser Jr. The film’s all-star voice cast includes Chris Pratt\, Charlie Day\, Anya Taylor-Joy\, Jack Black\, Brie Larson\, Donald Glover\, Keegan-Michael Key and Issa Rae. \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThe Lindsay has been proudly holding sensory friendly screenings since 2017. These screenings provide an option for families\, children\, and adults impacted by autism and other special needs to watch films together in a low-stress environment. \n\n\n\nWe lower the film’s volume\, keep on dim house lights\, and have a door open to restrooms and the lobby throughout the film. Trailers are eliminated to reduce the necessary “sit time.” Staffing levels are also increased to allow a personal\, unhurried cinematic experience for everyone.  \n\n\n\nThe Lindsay usually offers sensory friendly screenings of every family-friendly film we play. Recent examples include sensory friendly screenings of A Minecraft Movie\, Lilo & Stitch\, How to Train Your Dragon\, Zootopia 2 and Hoppers.

SUMMARY:Emerging Filmmakers Showcase: 'The Haunting of Prince Dom Pedro'
DESCRIPTION:The Lindsay’s second Emerging Filmmakers Showcase in April is a genre-mashing comedy that was made on a grander scaler than most locally shot independent films. \n\n\n\nThe Haunting of Prince Dom Pedro was conceived and written by Joe Fishel\, of Butler\, and directed by Don Swanson\, of Ebensburg. This film takes several film genres\, from supernatural mysteries to rom coms\, and combines them to form a modern-day fairytale about a group of high school Latin American history students who quickly regret their decision to not fully appreciate the Liberator of Brazil. \n\n\n\nFishel and Swanson’s film will have its Pittsburgh premiere at The Lindsay on Thursday\, April 16\, at 7 p.m. The 83-minute screening will be immediately followed by a filmmaker Q&A. Tickets are free\, and we recommend RSVPing via the sign-up form below due to space limitations. \n\n\n\n“The Haunting of Prince Dom Pedro is a fun\, quirky movie that is very entertaining\,” says Fishel. “It has been described as a Scooby-Doo movie without the big dog.” \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDom Pedro was a Portuguese prince who became Brazil’s first ruler in the early 19th century. Fishel\, a longtime staple of this region’s film industry\, conceived of The Haunting of Prince Dom Pedro after thinking about the worst-case scenario if high school students ignored their teacher’s plea to take their studies seriously. \n\n\n\nThat initial idea evolved into a family-friendly romp that blends comedy\, mystery\, light horror\, romance\, teen shenanigans\, martial arts\, crime capers\, historical drama\, musicals—and even Bigfoot. \n\n\n\nFilming took place across six Western Pennsylvania counties and one Ohio county. Dom Pedro was edited by Jamie Lockhart\, of Bellevue\, and stars Rachel O’Day\, of Saltsburg\, and Madeline Schlichter\, of Indiana Township\, as high-schoolers “Jayden and Kayden.” \n\n\n\nOne particularly unique aspect of Dom Pedro‘s production was its designation as a SAG-AFTRA micro-budget feature. That program is available to projects made for $20\,000 or less\, and it gave Fishel and company the green light to increase the scope of their modestly budgeted endeavor. \n\n\n\n“There were more than 160 people as part of the cast and crew\, and more than 150 of them appeared in front of the camera\,” explains Fishel. “That’s a huge number for a locally filmed indie.” \n\n\n\nThere are so many familiar places and faces in Dom Pedro that filmgoers will likely recognize at least one location or actor. DESCRIPTION:Enjoy this patriotic sci-fi comedy at The Lindsay!\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBuy Tickets Here!\n\n\n\n\n\nExperience 1976 America through the eyes of time-travelers from 2176 in The Spirit of ’76! \n\n\n\nLucas Reiner directed and co-wrote this wacky sci-fi comedy about time-travelers aiming for the United States circa 1776 who instead land in 1976 as America is commemorating its bicentennial. \n\n\n\nThe Lindsay is partnering with the Sewickley Valley Historical Society to show The Spirit of ’76 on Thursday\, April 30\, at 7 p.m. Tickets are now on sale for $8.75 each. This screening will be immediately followed by a guest speaker discussion and Q&A. \n\n\n\nThe Spirit of ’76 begins after a magnetic storm in 2176 has erased all recorded history—including the U.S. Constitution. Three time-travelers are sent back to July 4\, 1776\, to retrieve their heritage\, but end up being perceived as aliens in 1976. \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nReiner co-wrote The Spirit of ’76 with Roman Coppola\, son of famed director Francis Ford Coppola. The film features performances from Lucas’ father\, Hollywood legend Carl Reiner; his brother\, famed writer-director Rob Reiner; David Cassidy (The Partridge Family); Olivia d’Abo (The Wonder Years); and rock groups Redd Kross and Devo. \n\n\n\nThe Sewickley Valley Historical Society is celebrating the United States’ 250th birthday by showing three thematically linked films at The Lindsay in 2026. The Spirit of ’76 will be the final screening in this series. \n\n\n\nIt will kick off on Thursday\, Feb. 26\, at 7 p.m. with a 45-minute version of Ken Burns’ acclaimed The American Revolution docuseries. The series will continue on Thursday\, March 26\, at 6:30 p.m. with history-based musical 1776.
