Crew Member Job Description
Crew Members, the first team members to engage with our guests, work a flexible schedule, 6-30 hours a week including days, nights, weekends and holidays. (We are open 365 days a year.) We welcome team members of all ages.
We put customer service first in everything we do; believe in teamwork and showing initiative; expect our employees to be smiling, punctual and reliable; and offer the unusual perks of free admission to films and free bags of undeniably delicious popcorn topped with real butter.
Flexible Hours: 6-30 hours/week including days, nights, weekends and holidays
Compensation: $10/hr plus perks and a pleasant, inclusive environment.
Job roles and duties: Enthusiasm for customer service is a must. Experience in a restaurant, retail or another customer-service, hospitality job is a plus, but all employees will be trained to meet the Theater’s expectations.
As the face of the Theater, each Crew Member is trained in and performs the following tasks:
- Cashier—work the register, handle cash, credit and debit transactions
- Ticketing agent—sell tickets, know the current film plots and show times
- Concessionist—serve food and beverages to customers
- Usher—serve as the gatekeeper and direct guests to the correct theater
- Cleaner—maintain cleanliness of concession equipment, counters, lobby, restrooms and theater
- Projectionist understudy—ensure proper sound and projection throughout showing of films
Competencies and Characteristics:
- Reliable, punctual and flexible
- Enthusiastic about the arts, service and people
- Able to communicate clearly with guests, coworkers and managers
- Willing to do what it takes to get the job done and create a great experience for guests

The position involves:
- Occasional lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds
- Visual acuity, speech and hearing; and hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate a computer keyboard, office equipment, theater projector system, POS, concessions and commercial kitchen equipment
- Ability to stand for long periods of time, climb stairs, sit, reach, walk, twist and kneel to perform essential functions.
Working conditions are primarily a climate-controlled, public, indoor environment with occasional exterior tasks with possible exposure to:
- Hot mechanical parts
- Wet and/or humid conditions
- High, precarious places
- Fumes or airborne particles
- Toxic or caustic chemicals
- Risk of electrical shock and vibration
- Varying noise levels
- Outdoor environment.

Assistant Theater Manager – The Tull Family Theater
Best candidates for this hands-on supervisory position will have restaurant/retail/hospitality experience, including mature college students and high school graduates with this background. Part or full time (negotiable) and non-exempt, 100% in-person. Pay rate: $14 an hour.
Core qualities: Responsible leader with strong work ethic, problem-solving skills and passion for customer service will fill this high-energy position with The Tull Family Theater, a nonprofit with a priority of service.
Working with administrators and crew members alike, the Assistant Manager will ensure that The Tull Family Theater provides a high-quality cinematic experience for patrons, guests and donors. This position reports to Assistant Directors of Theater Operations, but may receive assignments from any administrator.
Responsibilities:
- Comply with and model all the Theater’s policies
- Oversee and work alongside crew members on concessions, registers, cleaning, patron service
- Provide exceptional service to each guest
- Demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills
- Use high-level analytical skills proactively to prevent and defuse problems
- Maintain highest standards of money management via registers and online ticketing service
- Support technical aspects of film projection and sound system (training provided)
- Follow health/food regulations and policies
- Ensure that the Theater’s Culture of Cleanliness of entire building is universally upheld: kitchen, concession area, serving counters, restrooms, lobby, screening rooms, Community Room, including exterior perimeter:
- Maintain safety, clearing or delegating snow/ice removal from sidewalks/exterior
- Post hazard signs as needed, if interior/exterior surfaces are wet/icy/potentially slippery
- Participate in periodic deep cleaning in all areas of the building
- Follow the Theater’s protocols to maintain public health
- Maintain operational schedules and responsibilities
- Maximize available staffing, assigning crew members their preparatory and routine tasks during “down time”
- Maintain appropriate staffing levels throughout each shift, according to traffic, alongside Assistant Directors of Theater Operations
- Check stock in advance of opening, as needed
- Ensure that popcorn is popped and all concessions are ready for guests
- Assist with inventory counts, accepting and logging deliveries
- Deliver leadership
- Set an example for crew members to follow
- Trouble-shoot and resolve issues such as power outages, call-offs, schedule changes and other potentially uncomfortable and/or urgent circumstances, with guidance of Assistant Directors as needed
- Always ensure exceptional guest experiences
- Support all other operations of the Theater, including but not limited to special events, sensory friendly screenings, film premieres, promotions, etc.
Requires:
- Work on holidays, evenings and weekends on a 365-day-a-year operating schedule
- Frequent standing, walking, twisting and bending
- Flexibility and poise as a team leader and member
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and carry it up to 90 feet
- Computer/technology proficiency\Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
- Professional appearance and hygiene
- High school graduate; some college and/or supervisory experience
- At least one-year of experience in a service-focused business environment (restaurant, hospitality, retail, etc.) a plus
